Direct shipment of food crops means absence of value addition for producer countries. Manufacturing of farm products, increasing their value by processing them locally and then selling them abroad is absent.
The biggest problem in Africa is corruption; this leads to almost every other social and political issue on the continent. The farmers would not have to take the fall if their governments were not so eager to take money from the west for short-term gains. Regulation would help.
