I know its only a game and shouldnt be taken that serious but the whole point of war is to win with the smallest casualties and colatrial damage so if it means having strong lists what people dont like tough luck at the end of the day its up to the general to come up with the goods and counter act the strengths and weaknesses of an army.
It took six years to beat the germans at there own game in WW2 cause they came up with a lot of new tactics like the blitzkreig, dive bomb attacks etc etc
i would get bad sportsmanship scores simply because i take a long time to play since i am reletivly new (only played for 1 1/2 years) and use alot of strategy thinking, and when people try to rush me OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND WONT STOP, i tend to get mad, and i begin to get my voice louder and louder
Army composition has nothing to do with Sportsmanship!
Sportsmanship is how your opponent handles himself during the game.
Slamming someone for Army Composition on his Army Sportsmanship scores is down right wrong. I understand that people do it because of the "legacy of composition" that American Grand Tournaments started.
In the UK this doesn't seem to be a problem, because they have never dealt with composition scores.....everyone just brings their hardest list.
Continuing from my previous post, perhaps separate prizes can be given out for best painted, but it SHOULD NOT affect how someone does in a tournament (like in the GT how "painting scores" will affect your overall result., IMO that's BS.)
I agree with you completely. Stuff like "Sportsmanship" "Painting" etc. (Anything not-connected to the end-game result) shouldn't be conscidered during a tournament.
Tournaments should simply be based on how good a general someone is. Painting shouldn't affect the score... sportsmanship shouldn't affect the score. "Cheesiness" shouldn't affect the score. It's all about the win IMO (Yes, competitive RTS player here...).
I disagree with you. I feel that the winner at a tournament should be the person that best embodies the entirety of the miniature games hobby. Of course, that includes bringing a well thought out army and good tactics. But it also includes painting and converting, sportsmanship and knowledge of the back-story/fluff.
The people that fully embrace the hobby for what it is (not just a wargame), those are the ones that ultimately keeps the community going. At least from my experience.
Why would doing it in private be fair? I'm sure someone would be thinking on taking advantage of this and tank the opponent's score. This will definitely happen in the final games at the top tables:
"If I give him a fair sportsmanship score and he tanks me, he wins the tournament. However if I tank him and he gives me a fair score, I win!"
I unfortunately don't have a solution to this, I just wanted to point out that the system can easily be broken either it is secret or not.
i think that you should do the score infront of the pother person and if they are man enough then you can show it to them and just say "hey, this is why im giving this score to you." but definitly dont just give the person a 12 so u can get a 12 back. Be honest for sure. :D
no body should give a bad sportsmanship score because of the list there up against, if the person your playing is rude or cheating, then yea hammer him.
we all have different personalities so try not to judge the person your playing to much.
was it a good game, did he try to bend the rules, did you have a laugh, that's really all i would consider, and never include the list he played, that has nothing to do with sportsmanship.
sportsmanship dosent always mean a bad thing i think that you can help each othr out but you cant give 12 to get 12 its wrong it was made for what you think and i like the fact you do it secret well done for that idea im defently going to use that :D
I think sportsmanship is huge. If someone is beating my ass by superior tactics and or a nasty list. Then so be it. One thing I notice about alot of you Battle for Salvation guys is that your all very focused, and your lists are nasty. Including Jawa and Fritz. Now I dont know if you play friendly games or not. I can only go by what I see here. If I am getting my ass kicked, I wont complain if its legit. Score someone the accurate fair score they deserved based on behavior. Thats what its about.
I think it should be based on how the dude treats you (Rude, Nice, Cheated etc.) Because...for example take a look at Basketball, Sportsmanship in Basketball is how you treat your opponent, and how he treats you .... I think sportsmanship is about being respectful to and from your Opponent. That's just the way i rate people on sportsmanship. :D
Id like to never see sportmanship points, in a competetive game there's no point to hold back on mischief, in a friendly game you dont need it due to the dont be a dick rule..
