i have questions. did i have to plug in my instrument to get the harmony effect? then if i plug in my guitar and i have some effect like vocoder or another weird vocal effect in the vocalistlive4, will the guitar sound change too? because actually i want to keep my guitar and vocal effects separated. thx
@inibukanidmadx Yes, you can keep your guitar effects seporate from your vocals. You would have to manually turn on the "guitar effects button" for it to change. If you have further questions or concerns page 7-8 in the manual break it down in detail. Or call 800-999-9363 for tech support. Thank you!
I totalally agree I use it as well. Nice job,I use it for Beatles, Eagles . I see a Lexicon PC software behind you, do you use it and are you having any luck with it. I have that as well but lack skill in using it.
Nice video... But the machine sucks... It always makes u sond artificial (kinda like a robot) specialy if u play at noisy places or with a band.... Its crap... Thak u anyway for
I have been writing songs and singing to myself for more than 50 years! Harmony is in my brain and I have sometimes tried to record singing in 4 part harmony. As a 67 yr old guy this presents quite some problems...try singing like a lady! I have a nice little backlog of music and songs ready written to perform and am sick and tired of trying waiting to find others to sing with me. If the Digitech people read this......I would be your perfect choice for an AD with a free VL5 for my work!
To use with a keyboard you need a Digitech Vocalist Live Pro Vocal Harmony Effects Processor DIG0111 as this supports midi input to analyze chords. However, this version should work with "guitar" type sounds out of a keyboards Audio output i would have thought??? As it is "tuned" to accept that type of audio frequency input... interesting to see how it behaves with different sounds. Im getting one!!! :0) sold!
@muzikman2008 using volcalist 4 with keyboard yamaha psr s900 , and it works great, it recognize the harmony you are playing , the same way as gutiar, no matter the voice on keyboard... i mostly use strings and piano... great thing, the only bad thing in this vocoder, is that you cant save volume of the back vocals... if you want them to be more loud you have to let go of your instrument and turn them up with your hands , you cant save a preset with louder vocals...
Could you bring us some words about WHY could be Vocalist Live 4 be a BETTER option than Voice Live 2 from TC Helicon and/or for what kind of users you beleive Vocalist Live 4 could be a better tool. Thanks !
Everyone needs to get over themselves. This machine is nice...not all of us have 5 human beings with perfect pitch standing behind us ready to sing and practice for hours everyday. This machine isn't ruining anything. Standing around in your bedroom doing nothing is ruining stuff. Thanks to the technology for making this possible.
@hellman660 Thank you for you input and support! Thanks to everyone who dares to step outside of the box and try something new. I don't care what anyone uses (gear wise) let's just keep making music. ~ Vocalist/DigiTech
@ShredGuitarNB If you "hide yourself behind the pedal" -> ok, you're right. It's like bad guitar playing skills obscured by using hi-gain. If you use it as an effect -> well, it's ok.
Great demonstration. I'd like to use this with Band in a box backing tracks instead of a live guitar. I wonder if this is possible? Also, instead of voice, I'd like to use tenor sax. Any thoughts?
Hi I was looking at the "Halycon" but, after watching your vid, managed to get a "live 4" for £289 from "Sounds live" and will be picking it up in a couple of days, Thanks for the tips!
@1coryrsleepy -- I usually tune my 12 String guitars down and it works fine. If you detune then you should have no problem, also, you can set the key manually and the harmonies will still come out real good. I've done stuff where I laid down a rhythm track first and then manually set the key (no guitar plugged in) to do the vocals and it worked good. The VL4 sure changed my world. Maybe Mr. Gold can allow the video response I'm sharing of a cover I did with it.
Would the Vocalist Live 4 also work with a lead guitar to apply pitch correction and harmonies to instead of a voice? Because Antares Autotune works great with lead guitar, so i wonder if this unit here would also work with lead instruments.
I bought a DigiTech Vocalist Live 4 about a year ago.... I have never had more fun with any music device I have ever owned. The VL4 makes singing and playing by yourself an event. It shows how harmony makes any voice sound better and gives an average singer a huge amount of confidence to sing out. When you put headphones on with this device you think you're at a concert. It was worth every penny.
i use this product for karaoke believe it or not, and the Gold Channel setting is just fine for me. i just have to continue with the delay settings until i find the right sound for the song i am singing. i wish someone would do that tutorial video!
I've done side by sides between this and the TC Helicon Voice Live 2 and I understand this is a promotion for DigiTech, so this comment will probably be deleted BUT, the VL2 is far superior to this piece. Don't be fooled by this. He's only playing simple 3rd and 5th upper partials with no complex chord progressions or vocal suspensions. The Vocalist sacrifices fidelity on thick harmonies. Another thing is you can hear the Vocalist hunting for the right note on many spots in this Demo.
hey man.. i respect your opinion. But if you think the Digitech doesn't do correct harmonies there is an option for you to program them yourself to that it shall give you the harmonies you want. Btw, the thickness or thinness of the harmonies too can be contoured and set at whatever thick/thinness you'd like. Coz i have used it myself and feel its just fine... :)
If you don't sing with a guitar, can you still use the harmonizer by telling it what key you're in? Also, with a guitar, does it work well over distorted power chords, and single picked notes such as arpeggios?
what do i need for efeects /vocal charters do i need this or something else i dont use peadas and i use the turning noobs and it needs to be easy to work with and i want some of the efeects to be auto tune, t pain,lo-fi,techno,alien,giant,monster,echo,skipping voice, fading voice, robot ,repeat, vocoder and more
Sounds great!!! I have one question. I just bought this and I'm running it into a dry P.A. but get significant delay through the speakers. I've edited the delay settings to zero but still have the unwanted delay. Do you know how to fix this or a work around? Thank You!
I guesse this is oblivious that you can only use a dynamic mic if not you would pick up the guitar in the recording .....so its only for live is there anything for the studio like this
i think he should add compressor, and preamp to it.

@CWilczewski I think he mean't can you use it with a bass plugged into instead of a guitar because it analyses the chords.

@defrepplicaaustralia I don't think you can plug your bass in because I think it uses chord detection.

Does anyone know if you can use this without playing a guitar or keyboard?
Let's say for example that you'd like to use this while playing the saxophone or trumpet into the mic... will it know the key?
If not, does anyone know if there is a product out there like this for a horn player?
I know you can't go wrong just using the octave effect, but I want to know if a horn player can use this just as easy. Thanks :)
