i remember this piece of shit. After anticipating it after seeing it listed in the TV Guide, I was so disappointed. Slowest, most plodding movie ever. No wonder it went nowhere. Funny that this could even be called "action" !
During the first minute or so, looking at that uniform along with the music and sound effects, weirdly enough, this reminds me of Metroid. I wonder if Nintendo was inspired by this pilot when they created that game.
Does anyone remember the TV movie the Power Within? Came out about this time, about a guy who gets stuck by lightening and now can throw lightening bolts?
...holy cow...I haven't see this in over 30 years. LOL! Kinda like the low budget Iron Man of the 70's! And that crazy jazzy porn music! This is great!
LOL I have been looking for this for so long. I thought maybe I was dreaming and it wasn't on TV but WOW ! I was a kid seeing this! Now 30 odd years later it turns up. Thanks! I loved this movie way back then. Ahhh that classic 70's TV music
Wow! I have been vindicated after years of asking people if they ever saw this on tv. I was 5 years old, saw it once, and remember it to this day. If only I was that good with my schoolwork. The irony was that when I saw it I was at a paraplegic's house.
FINALLY!!...i've had very vague memories of this since the 70's... i must have saw this pilot when it aired ..which is surprising cause my parents didn't usually go for the sci -fi/action stuff or let me stay up this late at seven yrs old....i just recall that the suit looked alot cooler then lol...amazing the things you overlook as a child.
Holy cow...I remember this came on late night on channel 6 when I was a kid....wow, after all these years, its still here. Man...MST3K would tear this movie a new one. Exo reminds me of that 1 episode that MST3K did, Invasion of the Neptune Men.
I remember this show on TV. It was kind of silly, but I do think the concept/story was pretty cool. They could've created a much better suit. Of course, you have to understand, this was 1970s technology.
And another thing, even at age 8 I was thinking, "how the hell is this guy going to get any crime fighting done?!? All the bad guys have to do is walk away slowly while the cheesy Herb Albert disco music plays in the background. Besides, who could be scared of a walking vibrator? Cheese-opolis.
I remember the pilot well. As a 8 year old, I got very hyped-up by the pilots and commercials that were a constant fixture for 4 weeks before the pilot played. Even at 8 years of age, I knew good TV from bad, and this was....well it was not good. It sucks being a disappointed 8 year old, let me tell you. I wanted Ironman meets Lee Majors, instead I got Greatest American Hero meets Marcus Welby M.D.
What an asshole! This geezer sees him smash through a brick wall and a vault door and he wants to use a gun on him, lol. You can tell this was from the 70's by the cheesy music soundtrack.
jwstrand63 - Thanks for the memories! Hah, I thought that this was the coolest Sci Fi film on TV when I was eight! Recently I saw the Iron Man movie and was reminded to search for this. There is a cool lab scene I recall where the hero is testing superconductivity properties of chemicals on chainmail so that he can move his paralyzed legs.
I remember watching this and thinking, "Oh, the bad guys are in for it now! They're being chased by a very slow moving guy in a robot costume! The may get bored to death waiting for him to get to them!"
I mean, really. It was like Iron Man on mega-tranquilizers....
Yes! I've sort of been obsessing about this for the past 10 years or so. Thanks for posting it. A perfect example of how our memories can make something seem better than it really was. They should have called this "Torpedo-Head Guy". Silly.
Do yourself a big favor and find and read "ManFac" (1981) by Martin Caidin. Caidin wrote "Cyborg," the novel which became "The Six Million Dollar Man." As the show was winding down, the network approached Caidin to develop a story for a new sort of bionic man concept.
Caidin came up with the story for "Exo-Man," but since network beaurocracy tanked it, he left feeling like he should have done more with the idea.
The result was "ManFac," and it is honestly one of the best SciFi/Action books that I have ever read. No silly Iron Man type of suit--the hero wears something that makes him look totally human, but large and muscular. And with multiple suits, he can become different people.
The best part of the book is the psychological angle. How does one recover mentally and emotionally from a horrible, crippling accident. And with the suits available, will he ever be able to accept just being himself?
Holy CRAP this brings back memories. I was absolutely *obsessed* with this movie after watching it the night the pilot aired. Sure, its fruittier than a produce section, but hey, this was cutting-edge TV high tech back in the day. This just made my night :-)
I have been looking for this movie for decades. I saw it when it originally aired, when I was about 9 years old. I remember much of the movie, such as the jeep crashing into Exoman. See also M.A.N.T.I.S. (1994).
I saw this pilot back in the 70's when it was first aired. I loved it! I wanted more Exoman, but it never made it past the pilot. Eh, after seeing the clip (it's a bit dated looking) I can understand why it never made it past pilot, great concept but the technology just wasn't there to pull it off. Thanks for the clip though, I haven't seen it in 30 years. Ahhh, the open-mindedness of youth.
Yes, I was seven years old when this first came on. I thought this was the greastest thing since the six million dollar man. But looking at this now it is kind of sad.
I was big EXOMAN fan too. This movie had that tingle when your a kid watching it. Ya know, thinking one day I could grow up and be a superhero in a giant chain mail tin can. I still think that suit is dope. And I remember M.A.N.T.I.S. too, both well done.
Exoman ,Spectre, The Infiltraitor, and The Aliens Are Coming. Are four of my favorite Pilot movies that never made it to series. Pitty as each had fascinating ideas.
Perfect timing! After years of searching for this movie (saw it rerun on TV in the early 80's), I found the name and this clip. Anyone have the full movie??? Thanks for the clip, jwstrand63!

No matter how fast you run, Exo-Man will catch you. Very slowly, but he will catch you.
I actually liked this horrible farce of a movie when it came on... was hoping they'd make it a series, but oh well

Typical goon - fires at the intruder, sees his rounds ricochet off the guy's armour, but keeps on firing anyway, even though he knows it's useless.
