OMFG...this guy is a great great great great teacher...thank you...grab WIlber's "brief history of everything" for a simple primer...and you'll be ecstatic while listening to this guy... Wilber and Cohen...thank you fellas...
Brilliant. Seeking personal enlightenment without any concern for other beings or the Earth is just another form of selfish desire. Like drugs, to some enlightenment is just another form of cowardly escapism, they are motivated by fear/ego, not love/authentic self. We are here to make the world a better place, though many don't want to face that. Andrew here points out well the absurdity of the position of moral relativism, "no shoulds", expressed by the questioner. & Go Vegan if you care!
. Only by realizing the self, you can actually start being productive... Fight between activism and passivism in history indian philosophy has been going on for last 2000 years , Ramnuja Vs. i think what he is saying is very rational but still theoratical..... he argue that if completely realize "being" for the whole time, we would be completely passive and would not accomplish anything in material world. however if you look at great masters, like Buddha, with his philosophy, he influenced kingdom. same with Acharuya Shankra/Ramananda.
this is half an hour of ego-driven rambling. Cohen has no idea what is enlightenment is. how can there be a higher enlightenment, and a lower - it is one consciousness?!?

No separation from self here is what oneness actually is - one with all that is here as yourself - the wars, the rape, the abuse - all of this world both known and unknown.
The authentic self is the horror that we have become.
Self is not a separate state - what he is saying is the authentic self is in separation to what is here, thus unreal. This is self-dishonesty. If you are not one and equal with all of existence, you are not real.
"a deeply rational teaching" because it could only be undertood with the rational mind to one who has completely missed the point of Eckhart's teaching/pointing. now i know why i was never drawn to this guy...
The talk ia about the mystery of being and becoming. Andy Koan loses us in a maze of talk until we are confronted by our own inner voice that chatters endlessly.
.....such as the importance of nonduality/antithesis and the effects of inner transformation on the external environment via meditation, within this point of history. Jnana Yoga alone can only reveal so much whilst still held down by the prepersonal and personal. So far, yet so close
Hardly integral...negating the antithesis of self within the revolution of the dialectic is like taking the audient to the shadows of the cave via a paradoxically contradictory jump toward enlightenment. the path is from being to not being to becoming, and for the record, as Barry alludes, to dis another approach can potentially nonintegrally dismiss a major position........cont' below
If it was simple. Then why are not all of us at peace on earth. Why do we have wars and people dying of poverty. Simple my ass, you need to catch on to reality. The concept may be simple, but to us humans, it is complicated. We are lost and trying to somehow get back to the truth so we can heal. And that is keeping it nice and simple.
doncollione, Don't know why you got marked down. The supreme realization when the ego is completely annihilated is that "It alone is" There is nothing but He, IT, Self. You are right. The problem is with guys like Cohen, Tolle, and many like him who speak of enlightenment but have no clue what it is.
Yes...this is some good stuff. At first, I too thought he was rejecting the teachings of Meister Tolle and Adya. But after listening, its more about "conscious creation". Its Post-Enlightenment. Pretty cool...
Oh boy, what alot of words, what a lot of ideas, what alot to keep the illusion that there really is a special me who has some thing special to do. Living is just Love in action, much simpler than Andrews unstoppable verbage suggests...
A great orator, and a rational thinker. Thankyou for posting this, Soren. I think he sells the more primordial spiritual teachings a little short. But I agree wholeheartedly with this! Yea! We're JUST getting warmed up! I'm here! I want to be here for the whole thing! I want spiritual immortality and I want to do great compassionate deeds with it!
I believe Cohen has misrepresented Tolle's teachings here. Tolle does not advocate the rejection of action in favour of solitary meditation; Tolle actually encourages engagement with the world but with a deeper awareness of what is happening as it happens. Such a state of mind can be immensely practical.
Cohen is not rejected Tolle's teaching. Cohen is saying that the next stage after enlightenment (freedom from the world through development of the deeper awareness) is to Become a concious creator of the world. It is the next stage after enlightenment.
He is not rejecting Tolle's teachings. He is just emphasizing the stage AFTER we have developed the deeper awareness that allows us to be free from the world. The next stage is to be a co-creator IN the world. Being free from the world (Tolle's teachings)is a pre-requisite to creating IN the world without dysfunction.
from my perspective he is saying that once you reach enlightenment its great.. so become like a bohisatva,, and return to the world and help the suffering world. walk in the world and know you are not of it...feel the fear and do it anyway?? decide what it is you want to create (concious creation) whether its money for the weekend, tht nice car you like or (and and and) an enlightened civilisation and believe (in) it thank you
Thanks for this! I've just been feeling that transcending is great, but I feel an urgency to take a stand and be active in the world during this critical time.

One is here as all of existence.
This is the authentic self.
No separation from self here is what oneness actually is - one with all that is here as yourself - the wars, the rape, the abuse - all of this world both known and unknown.
The authentic self is the horror that we have become.

oneness and equality rationalised as knowledge and information...
i live this by aplying me as the breath -here- no thought, and the transcendance is noticeable in awarenes., the awareness is still separation.
praticaly one must live this process as self by self to self, realising being one and equal to all in existance.
EVIL-ution
the higher goal = separation...
I am "HERE" as the breath as tool for no thougth... requires self discipline and self-will.

Andy Cohen really knows how to talk.
And talk.
And talk.
The talk ia about the mystery of being and becoming. Andy Koan loses us in a maze of talk until we are confronted by our own inner voice that chatters endlessly.
This is point where we meet our inner Andy.
It's sort of like a koan. Or a Cohen.

Subtle is the trap
the allure of the manifest
You are not even consciousness
consciousness arouse from the the unknown
your very ground of being
even consciousness is a shadowy show
andrew's misunderstanding is that the primordial state is a journey back in time.
It is not, its one block of awarerness simultanesouly wittnesing its play, not a journey in to 0 from -1 or +1
