hi does ur car have original decals? if so can u email me zee1224@hotmail.com i would like to know if the hood bird is the same size as the sail birds..pls let me know Thanks
I had one of those about 15 years ago... used to love that car. Mine died at EXACTLY 150,000... no joke... when the engine blew, it was 150,000 exactly...
I had this same car in High School. My mom drove it until I could get staight A's on my report card. I managed to do it my last semester of 11th grade and she gave it to me for my senior year. Unfortunately she passed away of cancer 2 years later. I have been looking for one of these cars for the past 5 years to commemorate her and keep for my son. Any chance you would be willing to sell?
Funny my 1982 TA was drum brakes in the rear, but it came with the 305 cross fire and burgandy leather PMD int, all power acc etc, and the the vin calls out ws6 weird?
Incredibly impression car. Also, one of the few American cars that can actually turn a corner! Limited Slip Diff - SWEET! My old Granada (Murker Scorpio) to you Americans) was way bigger and just as powerful, it only had a V6 though. I have to say it, you guys in the USA make some damned nice looking cars. All you need is some european suspension and you would have some fine cars. Pity all of the manufacturers have opted for FWD. Thanks for the posting.
@FirebirdDude The Soundtrack is from a CD called "Best of Don Peake - Vol. 1." I bought it from hitchcock-media (.com) but it is no longer available there.
i never understood why GM did not style there Camaro like the 3rd Gen its there best looking years. my dad used to have a 83 transam datona pace car edition...but it was such junk that i was constaly falling apart. 420,000 miles on the oringal motor. now that im 20 im trying to find a 82 or 83 Trans AM with no luck. =(
I had one in '96' for awhile till I got rear-ended & totaled. I still want another low mileage example..There are so few "perfect" examples on the road now. This car was perfect in its first year, They screwed up the looks the very next year, 83. It seems the styling after 82 was done by commitee...& it looked amateur. Power was only 165 HP. Nowadays if you live outside of smog regs you can drop a 350 at ANY HP level you could wish for. The music is a remix of Harold Faultimier(sp?) of Miamivice
Let me tell you something about the 1982 TRANS AM RECARO. The suspension is amazing and before its time. Did you realize that the WS6 suspension allows the 1982 TRANS AM RECARO to handle like a Ferrari? Thats right! The executives at GM realized that everyone in Southern Kentucky needed to corner at 1G so they gave the go ahead for a world class, LeMans capable suspension. I bet you didnt know that. Also many in Southern Kentucky feel that the 1982 TRANS AM RECARO should be in museums.
I'm not sure, but a 1982 Cross-Fire fuel injected (5.0 liter) V8 powered Trans Am (as tested by Motor Trend in January 1982) could run from 0-60 mph in 8.8 seconds.
mine has has a mild cam intake headers carb and xhaust mods but the same rear end and when i had it dino'd it was at 123 at around 5500 rpm so 120 - 130 is about the extent of it im guessing
Actually, I've never driven over 60, but it was smooth at that speed. With a 3-speed automatic and 3.23 gear ratio, any faster and I'm pushing 3000 rpms.
Thanks to your video I could see how it is a T/A 82 interior. I think it was the most luxury and beuty F Bird! The front, head lights, back lights, wheels!!! Everything is beautiful!!
The 7 1/2 inch rear axle came from the Chevy Vega, caused major problems with 82 & 83 Firebirds and Camaros where it couldn't take the torque from the CHEVY 305. The 84 line introduced a redesigned rear axle that can take the high torque.
I had one of these in red over black with black int. The 305 was great had to put a th 350 Trans the 200 could not take it. The rear was no better. But I miss it now was a great car other than small problems (I caused).
I had an 82 TA just like this one. It was a cheap piece of junk. It had the cheapest quality materials like the plastic center console and the TH200C 3 SPEED transmission that was meant for a 4 or 6 cylinder engine. Not a CHEVY 305!!! The black colored hard dash board started cracking a year later. Now it has been converted to soda cans.
I bought a brand new '82 black w/ gold eagle at Tabor Pontiac (no longer in bus.) in Atlanta. It had the WS6 Suspension pkg, cross-fire injection, fully-functional air induction scoop with breather housing, and black Recaro seats. The car sounded throaty and mean. Darned wheel covers would occasionally come loose from the front wheels.
Hey 1982ta, where can i get the second track, is it from a soundtrack CD? Please tell me the name of the release, i LOVED the synth-pop tracks in Knight Rider!!!
your trans am has the same style like KITT the tan pmd seats the bowling ball rims automatic with a round shift nob cowl induction hood t-tops NICE! ^_^
A really great car! I did buy one last april..mine's white,4bbl,no t-top,red pmd seats, body is in good shape but I have to do a lot of mechanical work and I still don't know if and what packages it has..
That's great and rust free, very very rare to find one of that year not falling apart or in a junkyard. I loved this particular year and color (black/gold trim) when I was 10.

@MrNafets83 MPG is 15-17. That is about 14-15 liters per 100 km.

Something is not right here, all 3rd gen F-Body cars came with the 4 speed auto.. The TurboHydromatic R700 or some crap like that..
The 3rd gen had the Turbo 350 or Turbo 400 tranny
rantasoya 3 years ago
In 1982 the Trans Am had the 3-speed 200C. Starting in 1983 they had the 4-speed 700R4.
1982ta 3 years ago
@rantasoya Sorry matey but you are wrong.
The 1982 3rd gens came with a Turbo 200c i have the same in my car and 226,000 miles later it's still fine.
This was an option in 1983 when the 700r4 was the futted choice and there after.
Most who used these cars have a heavy right foot, you only have to look at youtube vids to see this.
It puts huge strain on the gearbox and rear axle, which were'nt designed for that sort of punishment.
The 60's cars maybe NOT the 80's.They last if treated right.
