You have to be careful not to present a false dichotomy between completely determined or random. It's a very human thing to leap to a conclusion like determinism that removes your insecurity when you can't fathom any other option.

We all have to concede that it's simply not known how the hell the mind works or all the forms causality can take.

Randomness must exist as it is the basis on which most of modern scientific theories rests. Evolution is the absence of random events becomes an invalid theory, for one example. See my video "Random" for a more explicit proof.
