The solution is to PRIVATELY fund organizations like these. To fund these kind of programs with Federal funds is to eliminate the individuals choice to be charitable. God has given us free will to CHOOSE to do good with it or bad with it. Removing choice is removing the possibility for true love and charity to exist.
Fortune8Phool, I find it kind of ironic that you should evoke God as a driving force for charity, since the last time God sent somebody to help the poor, the conservatives in power beat the sh-t out of Him, whipped Him to within an inch of His life, and nailed Him to a tree.
I also find it somewhat ironic that the same people who shout, "Socialism!" when the government tries to help the poor have no problem at all spending billions to bomb the crap out of villages 12,000 miles away.
Maybe i am... though i am sure i am never going to subscribe to your channel. I'd rather have sex with a polar bear, wich, now that i think of it, is not a real bad idea.
Great job; I don't live in LA but I've been involved with helping the homeless and elderly in my community in NY for a few years now Reading comments on this brings up some mis understandings. like mental health issues and how laziness is the only problem of poverty. Mental health problems take over an entire person. Our mind is stronger than anyone knows. Being lazy is something that can be changed, having a mental health problem can't be changed completely but can be treated and helped.
Helping people is always good. But the only homeless people I feel sorry for are those who were born with real mental illness. The others are where they are because of their own actions. If someone doesn't have the motivation to get off the street than they don't respect themselves. And if you don't respect yourself than you can't expect, nor do you deserve, the respect of others.
It's a new medium for you, BD. I'm really glad to see you make a foray into reportage, and I know you'll get better and better at it. Can't control all the elements like your monologues, and you have to make choices about how much of you vs how much of them, etc. Not easy to find your style, but you're brilliant and you'll find it.
when i was younger, i participated in a project called box city. we were given boxes with which to make our own little 'box homes', and we slept in them for a weekend. we had soup-kitchen style meals and stuff to get a sense of what that life is like. and then, we went to skid row to pass out lunch sacks with food, and toiletries, and small articles of clothing, like underwear and socks. everyone had to find one person living on skid row, and get to know them a bit. it was incredibly touching..
I love bd, and love old folks, but the real truth in America, is you spend you early years getting an education, and your 18-65 years, working and saving to prepare for your retirement age. If you spend that time, being lazy, not saving, not preparing for your future, you shouldn't be bailed out because you just didnt make it... you dont preparing for retirement at 50, you prepare for it at 25.
you take it as if the only reason for homelessness is being lazy and not saving up.
In my country, there was a professor with a phd and during the war his wife and kids were killed, he was traumatised and lost his mind and became homeless.
There are people with lots of backgrounds, and people are people, they make mistakes.
some humans allow themselves to keep suffering, unlike animals who dont have a voice and cant make decisions. although i agree, for people who cant do anything
They have these boxes all over where you can put your old clothes to donate. Ususally in strip mall parking lots. All for different charities. Not sure who came up with the idea first, but it looks like everyone is using it. Sometimes when I drop something off the boxes are full.
Great editing job Brigitte. Loved the video. Awesome cause. Glad to see you doing something cool like this. Fiestamovement is turning out to be pretty neat.
I just started watching your videos, and let me say you are one of the most amazing people I've ever seen. Keep being you.

...and the video.. what would you say, four or five stars?
I reckon five.

why(in god's name) would you think that the community kicking in to help our brothers and sisters' eliminates your choice to contribute more.
If you're ever trapped in a burning building I hope you are able to find more than one door out of the flames.
One last thing: try to actually live the teachings of Christ rather than just thinking you are He.

US economic downturn is because of drug abuse and homeless people are just victims of bad happenstance. Hopefully things get taken care of.
