  • That is a bit much sugar. I think I may try this sometime but I think using shortening on the fondant, counter top, and your hands is a good idea. ;)

  • This video was horrible. You should talk rather then have music. Also, you should use a Mixer to mix everything together. Once that is done, sprinkle powdered sugar on the counter instead of greasing the surface.

  • Why do you store the fondant in the fridge? I never seen that done before. I was told to keep it in a cool dry storage. Can you tell me why? Also how much does it come out?

  • @tigerstripes379 now I might be wrong but don't you use food coloring. Not fabric dye?! Unless you mean something else. I'm pretty sure fabric dye could be toxic

  • @5thblkipea michaels and joanns sell food dye as well, not just fabric dyes. but the dyes can be bought anywhere really, grocery store, target, walmart.. etc

  • @itsmehpunk 1. Yes..Powdered sugar. 2. Michael's or JoAnn's fabric store all sell die... You will need to use a toothpick to apply color. I'm not sure when you would add it with this recipe. 3. You add the flavors only if you want to or think you need to. Flavors aren't necessary in making icing, but they are great flavor inhancers

    Fondant is mostly decorative. Most people peel it off before eating it , & I'm POSITIVE that fondant is not the reason people have diabetes ;}

  • @ALICEPIN Marshmallows already have a vanilla smell to them so it's just extra vanilla you forgot...add gel after they come out of microwave and are completely melted.. Hope this is of help.

    Hi Co0k3i,

    Either way, it's easier if you add it while mixing though, be sure to use gloves if you are not using a mixer to prevent stain.

    It is good, it's marshmallows, vanilla & powdered sugar!!! it's just super sweet, which most kids like and most adults don't. But if you don't want to fully cover your cake with it you could just make small decorations to put on your choice of frosting. Hope this was of help.   • I made this fondant today with my sister! Hilarious! We made such a mess and our cake decorations no comment lol, our fondant wasn't firm enough and we had run out of powdered sugar! It was so much fun makin it though :-) I think it come out much better next time!!!

  • Hello, I am new to this stuff so I bought some fondant to try, it worked out pretty good. But it is expensive! To make a long story short I ended up here. I have a question about making the fondant. Can I use a Kitchen Aid mixer instead of kneading the dough?

  • @BlackDiamond1969 yes you can and it is a lot less messy.. i watched another video and she used a kitchen aid and you would just grease the bread hook with Crisco before kneading and also the bottom of the bowl of the mixer then add the half of bag of sugar and the melted marshmallows on top.. then pour the rest of the sugar on the counter and add your mix to knead :)

  • do you have to store it for a few hours? Last time i made it i just used it right away, but there were cracks in it when i rolled it. Is that why ? or did I just over roll it ? Also, do you know when to add the food coloring ? I have paste, and last time i used the liquid, i was just wondering when you would add the paste, if you know. Thankss !

    Hi Saralyn

    Yes, you want to allow the fondant to set up in the fridge for a minimum of 2 hours-24, so it gets firmer and easy to work with. To add the gel coloring, (don't use liquid), you can add it when you are all done melting it down at it's softest or after u take it out of the fridge. If you get cracks, you can take just a little crisco on your fingers and rub it onto any cracks you may get...just do a little at a time. Hope this is of help. :-) (slynnecorona)

    You can use any color marshmallow that you find. You can also get gel coloring at your local crafts store (cake section) and color the fondant any color you desire. Hope this is of help.

  • For those asking about coloring fondant. Use color gel or paste. Add a very small amount after you have kneaded it to a smooth consistency. Just continue kneading until the color is consistent throughout. And it's best to color it just before using it as the color can change if you store it for awhile.

  • After I dump the marshmallow on my work surface, I use a bench scraper to fold it and the sugar until it's no longer sticky. Prevents the sticky club hand. Works very well, I highly recommend it.

  • This is definitely easier to do in a mixer, but this was made for those who are just starting out in cake decorating and don't have a mixer etc...but yes, the mixer makes things wonderfully easier and a lot less clean up.

  • wanna reduce the mess? do all of that in the bowl until thick enough to bring out

  • Using the dough hook with your mixer is much easier and more than twice as fast. Grease everything including the hook and mixing bowl, put part of the sugar into the greased bowl and pour all the melted MM over the sugar, I sprinkle sugar into the MM bowl to get all the melted marshmallow out and add to mixture. kneed on medium adding sugar until the dough is no longer sticky. I use about twice as much sugar to the weight of MM. Yours is very good if you don't have a stand mixer.

    Knead it until it is smooth and all the powdered sugar is no longer visible...it should feel like play dough, smooth and should not be sticky, if it is add powd. sug until it is not. Hope this is of help. Let me know how it turns out. :}

  • Manteca, lard or possibly anything that would prevent the marshmallows from sticking to the counters, hands etc. Hope that is helpful.

  • Thank you for the video, it's a great help in me learning what goes into making MM fondant. I am about to try for my first time. The one suggestion I have for YOU, since this is something I know about and maybe it can help you, go online and learn how to properly knead dough or even clay it will make kneading the fondant alot easier. Of course you may already know and as you said your fondant was so stick that might have been the only way you could do it! Just a suggestion! Thank YOU!!!

  • ^^ A tip is to sift the powdered sugar directly on to the counter.....alot of it and then fold it..:) That prevents any contact with the sticky Marshmallow goo..:P And you get a nice smooth fondant..:)

  • I make mine the same way but I usually wrap tight in plastic wrap and store in zip lock bag on the counter or on my bakers rack. Great video.
