I've lived all over the world...and it took me living all over the world to realize the greatest place of all was my homestate, Colorado. I can't wait to move home someday :)
Denver has a lot of open spaces nearby, but Salt Lake City is the best city in the Moutain West. I think you would like Idaho or Wyoming if you don't like city amenities.
Then I highly recommend Idaho or Wyoming. Idaho Falls/Rexburg is really nice (and affordable compared to Philadelphia), and Jackson or Gillette, Wyoming are nice (Jackson is expensive).
Those places would probably be too cold in winter...summer I'd love em. I've always been the snowbird type anyway. I was looking at NV also. I hear Jackson is too touristy anyway.
If you don't have a problem with South Jersey winters you won't have a problem with Idaho or Wyoming. Nevada is actually mostly cold in the winter. It occaisionally snows in Vegas and that is the only warm part of the state, the rest of it is very mountaineous and snowy. Jackson is pretty touristy, Sun Valley is pretty touristy as well. You might want to look into New Mexico, like Las Cruces or Santa Fe.
Ya gotta eat at chedd's,best grilled cheese. any kind of cheese you can think of or checkout brother's bbq, chophouse for you people with alittle more money
Denver is nice,I lived in Golden foe a short time with my older brother and family.I have also lived half way around the world in United Arab Emirate's. and Cherokee North Carolinia and Tucson Arizonia. just to name a few.thanks for posting have a great day.

very nicely done !! I have been a Denver resident since 1980
(originally from St. Louis) and always tell people what a great city Denver is. I travel a lot on business and people that are
unfamiliar with the city often comment "Oh, it must be too cold"
or "there is nothing to do there" - as long as they keep thinking
that way...I can keep it all to myself !!
