  • i love how the whole video works on the most boring part of the best movement of the concerto, i was waiting for it to go on to the big explosive part after that but it didnt

  • I'm a singer....and the 1st thing I notice, is that Helmerson knows how to make the instrument sing! The analogy of allowing the glass to naturally overflow, is perfect for any singer to understand too! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!!

  • what is the exact name and movement of this piece?

  • @MusicianoftheStrings It's from the 1st movement of the Dvorak Cello Concerto. This excerpt is from about the middle of the movement.

  • We do not have a double bass masterclass in the catalogue, although we are gradually working our way around all the sections of the orchestra. If you want to suggest a maestro for a double bass masterclass, do let us know.

  • I have one big question: do you guys have a masterclass for the double bass too?

  • Great masterclass. Wonderful teacher and student. But if I was that piano player... haha, I think I'd go crazy starting and stopping every few seconds! When I play piano, I'm just happy when I don't hit a wrong note!

And not every great musician is gay... even if they were, who cares?

  • I want one of him. I hope there's more of him out there. ♥♥

  • Wow. I really admire this man

  • I wish I could hear music the way this man can

  • this is a great video.. thanks a lot for sharing this to us :)

  • The teacher cannot word metaphors correctly. He is a stupendous teacher though. He also seems to have trouble with english.

  • What is this piece called?

  • can i get this on iTunes? i'm new in classical and don't know what to search

  • hes not delicate, hes gay

  • He is very gentle with the student.

  • who's the other cellist?

  • I'm new to the cello, you really have to like shake the finger kinda thing to make the cello sound good. I want to do that to be ahead in my orchestra class.

  • The student has a great sound, but the teacher Helmerson succeeds to get from him his soul. What a great teacher. And as said here Helmerson is so delicate that apparently he has a great soul that shows in any of his notes.

I wish I could have this whole concerto played by him...

I would dream that my little girl would get from him once (some years from now ...) a master class from him...

  • what a lovely video. Helmreson is so delicate. Its almost like his teaching echoes the beauty of the piece. very nice.

  • @Cheskkay

You are so right he's a wonderful teacher. Watch out for another masterclass DVD with Helmerson working on Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata. It will be out at the end of June and is just as good as the Dvorak.

  • @MMFmasterclass where is the arpeggione masterclass?

  • @Cheskkay hes not delicate, hes gay. but i agree full width you, hes a perfect teacher

  • @KenoEsel What makes you think hes gay? hes got a wife ... haha...

  • wat part of the dvorak concerto is this? mvt 3?

  • mvt 1..

  • This is first part of this Concerto - the middle of it :)

  • aah, really like it!!

    Love it actually :)

    Is he dutch?

    He's kind of cute XD

Woul'dn't mind if he'd be my teacher ;)

  • No, he's swedish

  • @cellogeek95 really? i would have bet my index finger he was german, well guess i need more practice.

  • @ScamallDorcha yes I'm swedish so I know quite many who's worked and studied with him, and he comes from sweden but teaches in germany

  • I wish this young man were my boyfriend. His practicing wouldn't bug me one bit. And he's cute! A cute cellist! Ah, a perfect world.

  • Frans Helmerson's metaphors are really spot on! Like the one filling a glass of water and continuing the pour after it's filled up. Great way to make other people understand how you think.

  • I totally agree! The water thing is so cool. And it's some of the most subtle nuance because he's already playing that part so well.

  • as a bassist I used to not care about the cello until I heard this and the elgar concerto

  • :) listen to shostakovich too, we may have you converted by then

  • Shostakovich, Elgar, Dvorak...

Nothing can convert me from my love of the Bass, it's underated by many people.

  • That's Sebastian Baverstam, the poster boy of NEC (literally). Young cellist w great potential.

  • Frans Helmerson ... GREAT!!!

  • The student hot :D

    and play BEAUTIFULY

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • I love the students sound

    Its so sweet and delicate

    Beautiful

    :)

  • Frans Helmerson is one of the best cellists in Sweden, and europe, and I think in the whole world as well. When you hear him play, you don´t care about the technique, you just here the music! That´s the best with him!

  • can you also post the first half of the movement?? it wuld help me a lot.

  • Can't post it here, but you can get the whole DVD nearly an hour long from the URL on the clip. There's only a taste of one of the world's great cello teachers here.

  • this teacher comes to our school (framnäs folkhögskola in sweden) four times a year. very fun to listen and watch :D

  • plain english, has it become archaic?

  • Frans Helmerson!

  • The teacher of Truls Mørk! Great!

  • great teaching

  • Thanks for your comment. We've now got a great page on Facebook. Just enter Masterclass Media Foundation and you'll find it with reviews and plenty of other information.

  • Omg this is so good!!!

Thats VERY GOOD advice! Thanks for uploading!

  • Interesting,

At first I was thinking "Hey, this guy isn't saying anything !", but then he said it all.

  • This is great teaching! It is a mutual exploration of the music and beutifully filmed. Frans Helmerson offers his insights so gently without undermining the performer.

I'd love to see more like this!

  • Thanks for your comment. He is truly one of the great teachers. You know you can buy the whole masterclass on DVD from the address shown on the clip.

  • Very, very useful! Thanks for uploading!
