hmmm several years back i went to see the imperials in Temple Texas at Bethel Assembly Of God and there were three young guys and Armond who was running the show his son was one of the young guys. i bought a cd had some cool songs, Gabriels lips are on the trumpet, Big God, tons of awesome songs Armonds son testified that his dad had a old propecy come true to write songs while he had been sick in hospital and he wronte and sang the winds of change awesome song
As has been alluded to, The Imperials (the original group) no longer exists. The Classic Imperials (Armond Morales, David Will, Paul Smith and Rick Evans)continues to carry the Imperials tradition.
I really started listening to The Imperials when Paul Smith was the lead (good to see him back), but the Russ Taff era was when the group enjoyed their greatest popularity.
Didn't know that any of the former members of the group were still traveling. Not too bad for replacing the original group. Nothing like the group from the 70's.
I just saw the Classic Imperials in Youngstown , OH . on Thurs. 6.17.10 and they did this song and it was INCREDIBLE !! Their harmonies , their personalities were all GREAT !

Where does the lawsuit stand at this point? Have these fine gentlemen decided to stop suing their elders? Maybe just me - but I miss the classic approach.
I believe it is over but these aren't the ones doing the suing; it was Armond's son's band (who are officially The Imperials after Armond sold them the group) who did the suing. I am not saying that to take sides just pointing out a general fact and not trying to say who is right and who is wrong. I would; however, keep both bands in your prayers as I am sure this took a real toll on everyone involved.
hi , yes , " Watergrave " is an absolute terrific song for baptising ! That whole album " Sail On " is very good ! Luv It .. For me , I got turned onto the Imperials with the song " A Thing Called Love " from the opening of Elvis' concert in Vegas . I wished I'd discovered how terrific these guys are . Well, again, this group, the Classic Imperials and the new configuration of The Imperials, both are wonderful, Christian groups. We should support both ministries!
They sound GREAT! But I guess some have nothing to do but criticize everyone except who they support. Always talking about age, when you GOT it it doesn't matter how old you are. Tony Bennett STILL sounds amazing and he is how old? 81 to be exact! This video is really good guys!
Wow, I guess I've been away from youtube for a long while, which it's good, but then it's sad to hear that these things been going on within the christian community. Is in it funny, the bible states that we, one day will judge the unjust and fallen angels, and here we are fighting for something ( The gospel ) which was given to us for free!. We should do it the same way.
Jim-I agree with you on the other group(Blackwood and Co), but these guys here are very good and are good Christian men. They do have a great sound and now that the name issue is solved, there should be no problem. Please rethink your idea about these guys. I use to think the same way you did, but God and Rick Evans changed my mind. Rick has a heart as big as the world.
That is the absolute God's Honest truth!!! I have had the privilege of knowing him for fifteen years and I know without a doubt that he is truly a man of God who serves with his whole life heart and actions. Not to mention he would give you the shirt off his back.
One other thought. I hear these guys at eh Grand Ole Opre with Larry Gatlin a few months ago. They were part of his history. I guess Larry sang with them in the beginning of his career. I thought I knew everything about The Imperils.. Sorry The CLASSIC Imperials. Guess not. I better brush up on my Gospel Music history.
Excuse me, but the group Larry Gatlin sang in contained Jim Murray, Terry Blackwood, Armond Morales and Joe Moscheo. If you check out your history you will find this to be true.
I have heard Joe, Terry, Sherman, and their tenor (sounds like Jim Murray). I am not sure whom I like better. They both are great. I would love to see them work together someday. May be just a fan's wish.
When all the fame goes away, their needs to be a solid foundation of Faith. Thank God for Armond Morales and Dave Will. They are true believers. It is good to see that they continue to mark the path for all the young ones who will follow.

I saw it advertised in my local paper but I saw nothing about it on their website anywhere when I looked. When I got my tix I confirmed that they were actually going to be there so I hope that it all works out!
I met these guys about ten years ago when I was in the 7th grade. They inspired me to sing and sing out for the lord. I am now a professional opera singer in south florida. For years it was my dream to be a part of this group; of course my dreams went other places, but these guys were the start of it all. And yes Armond still has it! Love these guys!
Ruff--You may have met 2 of these guys ten years ago, but it is doubtful the other two--they were not Imperials. All 4 of these guys, do a wonderful job and have a great sound together.
I was watching a TV show called Faith and Fame. Does anyone know if these guys have done that show? I see a lot of famous Christian musicians on there. I would love to see the history of this group.
Hey singntune. I agree. The history is great and it seems that these guys are still giving it all they got. Where are the mentors in gospel music? It seems to me that some of these young guys could use the good influence of people who have weathered the storm and made it through.

I do believe that we need to keep the old along with the new. I would love to see more of a balance. I think the old and new would be great together. That's why these guys are great. They are like a bridge between the two. Who else could do that?

I've been a big Imperials fan for many, many years. I don't know much about what is going on, but I think it is sad. I've known Armond for many years. I have great respect for him. I watched Jason grow up. I am praying for everyone involved.
I agree with that. They all knew, all the former members, (and there are quite a few), they knew the gentelmans agreement between Little Anthony's group and Armond, so they should all honor that premise, and give the rightful right to The Imperials (the younger), and I hope that will be the case. They can easily change it to something else connected to Elvis.
Furthermore, when a person battles cancer, sometimes they arent thinking very clearly for quite a long time. Im not making excuses for Armond, but my brother has cancer, and I am one who knows. Chemo does massive damage to ones entire system. Maybe that contributed to Armonds lapse in judgement, but he took responsibility. He's a big man in my book.
Yes, he is a big man, but he is still just a man. After being around the current group the other night, I suspect things are going to be fine with Armond's group --I even see a day when they will work together. The Elvis chasing group should be next on the list--and I think they are. They are actually using the full Imperials name chasing Elvis fans. That needs to stop in my opinion and in the opinion of the current members, I think.
JohnHansard-I agree, however, the youngers have protected thier ministry, and the elders have backed off the name. Armond has made a public apology. Mercy sakes! I think it's time they got rid of thier rift and made it known to the public. I know both groups myself, and just feel this is wearying some, myself included. God help us if something happens to Armond before this is resolved. It would be a grevious burden to bear for all. Has anyone thought of that?
Listen, Brother Morales has already said he was sorry for having a lapse in judgement. He already changed the name and stopped using the Classic Imperials. God will work it out.
gstuart-The current group of Imperials must protect their ministry and I am sure that will continue, but things are being worked out, I think. Armond has changed his tune somewhat and the current Imperials openly discuss Armond and the history of the group in their concerts--and do it very fondly. I heard them do just that the other night in Amarillo, Texas. I continue to pray for healing in that situation and that there be great work in other situations where the Imperial name is being abused.
I have read all of the comments. The article and the open letter. It just seems that all of the negative comments are coming from the "Artist formerly known" side. I have yet to see one negative comment for the "Young Imperials". So who is unChristian here? It looks like they are just trying to protect their business. While the Old guys are trying to take back what they sold. Pretty funny how people can't let go of the past. If the "Artists" are such Legends why the need to use the Name?
When I was first introduced to ccm in the early 80's, one of the first groups was The Imperials. They had (and still have) some of the smoothest sounds going! They have a long history with roots going back to the great Jake Hess when he originally the group. Now there is a group called The Imperials having a problem with Armond and David calling themselves The Classic Imperials. As far as I can see there is room for both groups

There is not a group called The Imperials, there is THE group called The Imperials! This group in this video is made of two former Imperials members and two others. They, too are good but are NOT The Imperials. The two should boast of their credentials as former Imperial members in their NEW group. Happens all the time. There will be and should be only one group of Imperials! If Armond was running the show still, you can bet he would want that. This group should have new name all together!
This group is the only REAL imperials group with original members, and so far..... regardless of the name they use are the only group the entire PUBLIC recognizes as the IMPERIALS.

What MOSH is doing is disgusting. Their problem is that no matter what they will NEVER live up to a legacy provided by Armond when he was in The Imperials and that is bothering them. They will always garner more attention the the MOSH inspired version of The Imperials We will see when the dust settles what happens but it's a sad day when The Imperials name is being dragged down like this when MOSH has done nothing so far to cause people to be impressed by their version of The Imperials.
amadeus-There are MANY great bass singers in the world and Armond is one of them, but he is not the end all be all of the world. The current Imperial bass is VERY good as well--as a matter of fact, I read an interview that Armond had that said he personally thought the current bass singer was as good as they would ever find. He sold The Imperials to the current group and gave them his blessing to continue the legacy--because he felt they were all talented enough to do so--and they are!
Everything you stated is absolutely true and I did not mean to imply that Armond was the end all, be all but what I do not understand is if MOSH is so concerned about the confusion of the name,why aren't they taking the Blackwood/Moescho Imperials brand to court as well? They go around using the Imperials name and nothing is being done by MOSH at all. I still think it's a little ego problem on the younger Imperials part but not saying Armond is blameless either. amadeus, I fully agree with you. I have said all along that the Blackwood/Moescho group were doing the most ethically wrong in my book by actually using the name. I have had hints that they will be trying to do something about that as well. I actually e-mailed Blackwood about it and got some interesting answers. I also agree that ego is at work here in many areas with many people. And it is a shame considering some are Godly ministries we are talking about.
Bottom line is for me it just a shame that the legacy of The Imperials will be tarnished with all of this. I think the Classic Imperials name would be just fine and everyone would know who they are getting but the other Imperials(Blackwood, et al) should not be billing themselves as that at all. Never thought it come to this and in the end, this could affect MOSH in a way they really didn't want. I remember what a famous Christian artist once told me, CCM business is just that, a business!
Think the Classic Imperials would better than the other group actually using the name--think they will get to that. The Imperials are doing what they need to do to protect their ministry. Pardon me for saying this but it's a fact that Armond was extremely stingy with paying the talent in the group since it's inception. He was a good guy, but he was all business. And apparently so is this mosh group. The Imperials are almost 20 yrs removed from much relevancy. The name no longer has much clout. How the "new" group can claim Awards, and Gospel Hall of Fame inductee status is unconsciounable. Maybe they should just grow up and act like men who call themselves Christians.
The new young members of The Imperials have brought the goup back from almost death in the 90's and early 2000's--under the helm of Armond Morales, I might add. They are fine, Christian Ministers, talented singers and great businessmen as well. But, to be fair-- This group of two former members are good as well.
How can Jerry Jones claim he has won all those superbowls? He bought the name and rights to the Cowboys, the same thing these guys did. They own anything and everything associated with the Imperials, inluding the awards. This was never questiioned when other members were with the group that hadn't won them either. Why question it now? They own the Imperials and they own the claiming rights, just like any other group. I can't figure out why that's so hard for some to understand.

Just a soft reminder that we are moving away from the tension this situation has created. Let's take a softer approach. There are better ways to support Armond and the guys.
Rick does an excellent job, and the combo sounds great! As someone who watched the hijacking unfold, It's a dark day when a Gospel Legend and his 50 year legacy are given a dollar sign by a self serving relative. I've seen this before, and it always seems to come full circle. At least Armond and the guys still have my respect, and their own self-respect.
I must add that after reading the "open letter" from the young Imperials, it does seem like they have a legit arguement. I'll stick to my two previous points but will tone down the bias towards one side or the other. It's a sad day for the legacy of such a great group. Can't really blame either side for just wanting to make a living doing what they love.
Found the open letter on The Imperial site. I agree, they seem to be correct on this one! After a reading an additional article about the lawsuit, it appears to be a simple case of seller's remorse on Armond's part. This group in this video is very good, Rick has a great voice, but they are NOT The Imperials.
I see both sides, but, I was actually there for over 2000 shows and know exactly who the Imperials & who won the awards. Armond, Jim, Dave, & Russ won 90% of them. However, a deal is a deal and one can't very well argue a legitimately signed agreement. Although, if my Dad called me and said, "Son, I need to still make a living and here is what that means" I'd have a hard time denying him. Just being honest. To say the Armond and Dave are not the Imperials is just not historically correct.
Armond,Dave, Russ, Terry, etc, are all FORMER members of the group The Imperials! That is what is fact. They should all be very proud of that fact and use as as they can legally. But, making sure that people think they are The Imperials currently in any manner is wrong. That is unethical at best. Not a valid argument. Some of the guys that you mentioned did not win some of the awards, but as members of the group took credit for all of them. As owners of The Imperials, the current group is entitled to speak as the group, about the group. They are saying that The Imperials have won these awards--and that is a fact--as much of a fact that THEY are The Imperials. Why can't the older guys support them like they wanted others to do when they were in the group? I still say ego!

I just want to say that everyone should consider what that day will be like when the "memorials" begin for some of the original Imperial legends. Will you be proud of your actions against them? Will you hold your head high? Will it mean anything more than just pure vanity. Picture yourself in that moment. The "Classic Imperials" could easily co-exist with any new group of "Imperials". What could that possibly do but help both groups?

MOSH continues to push their agenda. Armond continues to back up. Bottom line. MOSH is sewing Armond, gone after Joe, Terry, and Sherman. They are currently fighting Clarence Collins who has had the name Imperials since the late 50's.
If MOSH don't get what MOSH wants they sew. Armond has let the name go, now let's let Armond go.
PT 1 of 2: How many of you found out what the Imperials have to say about this whole thing? There are two sides to the story, and to conclude from one side isn't fair. After reading the CT article, and reading what was on The Imposters web site, I am so fed up with the MOSH group. Armond is not even using the name and they are still crying. I know they are just upset that they dont have a major deal and Armonds group does. The MOSH group is just flopping around like a fish out of water and it's a matter of time before they slowy fade away and they have killed the name "The Imperials". The MOSH group should stop now and walk away...
The Bible has something to say about suing brothers. Not only does the suit involve dishonoring of an earthly father, but the heavenly one they purport to represent. What a belittling of Christ, and a mockery of the gospel they preach. I won't be purchasing any MOSH Imperials productions -- and indeed will encourage those around me to read the CT article and come to their own conclusion.

Jake Hess would be ashamed at Armond and crew for not supporting his group--The Imperials. There have been many members that did not win awards as members of the group, but they took credit as a group member. much like the new members of this group are trying to pass themselves off riding the coattails of Armond. Foks you are not Imperials fans, you are Armond fans. If he had wanted to continue as an Imperial, he should have stayed with the group. he didn't and he isn't. This is shameful!
Jake was a good friend of mine. I spent hours with him and was there when he passed away. If Jake were alive he would be embarrassed that a group calling themselves the Imperials could not sing any better than they do. He would have never put any of the members of the young Imperials in any of his groups. So dont tell me what Jake would do, I can tell you that he would have been at Armonds side when Armond was fighting cancer if he could have been. You speak out of ignorance
all the story has to do is show that Armond made a mistake and acknowledged the mistake he made. It will show that his son and the group are sueing him which I can promise will scare them with pastors and marketing outlets. They will see that Armond has made it through a storm and is continuing on even after surendering the name that he worked over 40 years to build. I can promise an immediate huge amount of calls to Armond from pastors who depended on his music to pull them thru rough times
you will find that the industry, fans and pastors nationally who grew up on Armond's Imperials will be forgiving for the mistake he made because he acknowledge his judgemental error. Also knowing that Armond is 75 years old, has won a battle over cancer and now being sued by his son Jason, a wanna be will cause pastors to rallie behind this Legend and father. More than likely Armond will re srface bigger than ever while the young Imperials watch.

can you imagine the excitement it could generate. Not only would the industy take notice but the young group would grow so much by watching Armond. I visited the young groups web sight and saw that they are promoting themselves as the group that has won all the awards. This dosent seem right to me seeing that they young group hasnt even had a number 1 song at radio. In fact you cant find them on radio in the major markets kije the one here in Dallas. It would seem like the young group would expand their horizons better by supporting Armond and perhaps sharing concerts. They could open as the Imperials and then introduce the Classics.
If I read their website right----The Imperials--which they are--have won those awards. They are the real Imperials. Any former Imperial not supporting the new guys are the ones NOT being Christian and legit. This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard really. John if you can show me one picture of the young Imperials holding the Dove awards and the Grammy statues then I will agree unfortunately those awards are on Armond's and Dave's mantels at their houses. If that happens it will be unchristian and very sad. Egos are at play here with people that have nothing to do with their lives. Armond has never been anything much but an Imperial, he has nothing else, but he left of his own accord, Dave simply would be nothing without Armond. It is a very sad situation and very unGodly on this group's part. Legal action is warranted to stop this madness of this group and others. Russ Taff would never do such a thing, I suspect Jim got out because of it.How sad

I am Dave Will's daughter and I am sick you bashing him on a public website. My father does not have an ego problem, if you knew him you would know that is ridiculous. I can't believe you said he was nothing without Armond, my father earned his accomplishments, his voice is on the albums they won awards for. Their fans will stick by them no matter what name they have. Armond and his family are family to us and this is hard enough as it is without your obnoxious comments.

Why in the world would you think that they could not do as well as the other guys? They are highly talented. They are young and need to learn their own lessons--just like some other young guys of the 60's-80's. The 90's The Imperials were all but forgotten,not they are back again and beginning where they once began. They do not need to be Armond and Dave and I don't think want to be. I think there is an ego problem here as well as severe denial life goes on, sometimes without us--get over it!

To tell my dad he can't let people know who he used to sing with is crazy, people do it all the time. You can't erase over 20 years in a music group, there are Imperials albums with Armond and my dad's face on them, can you erase that?

I don't think that Dave or Armond of any else should have to never say that they sang with The Imperials, they are former members and should be proud of it. But, they are FORMER members, not current. Any characterization otherwise should not happen.

No--they are trying to be The Imperials and they are not! Remember, Armond made the choice to leave the group--and sell it. I seem to have heard this side of the story, I would love to hear The Imperials side. There are two sides to every story. I suspect wrong and right has happened on BOTH sides!
And I would add that they should have NO insecurities with their talents that God has given them--no one should. But, they are highly talented young men-----just like ALL of The Imperials have been since the beginning. Jake Hess would want no less! If Armond thought any different, he wouldn't have sold the group to them. Again, you can't have it both ways.
Jason is a grown man and has a busines and ministry to protect. I don't know the whole story, just this side that I have heard here. I do think it is a shame that any family is injured over something like this. But,there should only be one group of The Imperials and legalities should be take to make sure that happens. Looks to me that if Jason is not honoring father, then father is not honoring son by not helping him grow as an Imperial and mentoring him. You can bet, ego is at play here!

music- On the suit, please contact them and ask them why they are suing. From what I was told by the lead singer of The Imperials, it isn't as simple as you may think. Please get both sides. Extremely few have even bothered to contact them for their side of the story. They will be posting it on their site also.
MOSH continues to push their agenda. Armond continues to back up. Bottom line. MOSH is sewing Armond, gone after Joe, Terry, and Sherman. They are currently fighting Clarence Collins who has had the name Imperials since the late 50's.
If MOSH don't get what MOSH wants they sew. Armond has let the name go, now let's let Armond go.
I'm kinda on the inside; I work for 2 of the Imperial groups. They are friends of mine.
This is a painful yet unique time in the history of the group. But let the chips fall where they may, that's THEIR buisness. Appreciate and share THE MUSIC that is coming from ALL the Imperials. It's astounding! When all the chatter is quieted, all that remains in the years to come, will be the music. There will never be another group like them, no matter which version.

True christian men like Armond and Dave have turned the other cheek...they have given up the name and like GRNIZ70 said, "Their fans will stick by them no matter what name they have". Unlike the young guys, people will follow the CROWN after the truth comes out and the world knows what the young guys are trying to do to the music icons...

I am finished talking about it, it is clear when talking to those who support the young Imperials that they really dont seem to know what they are talking about and seem angry. I dont understand why, they have succeeded in making a 75 year old icon give up the name Imperials which he made famous, they have the name and now that Armond is operating as a former Imperial and continuing on they still seem bitter and hateful. i guess they want to act like they love him in concert and and prevent

I have trouble believing that anyone who had been in the business as long as Armond would try to sell a national trademark he did not own. I believe Armond in his mind sold the right for the young guys to carry on, Because Armond had fought a battle with cancer I am sure he thought perhaps his time to travel and sing was done. Armond made a mistake which he has acknowledged trying to tell the young group he had no right to sign a trademark document.
It was after the record company spent money producing a new project for the Classic imperials that all of a sudden the young group opposed Armond being back on the scene with a great new project because it suddenly became apparent that Armond and his Legacy would hinder the young group's progress. The record company was in shock because Armond was brought to them by Jason. Jason claimed he was not suing his dad but the group was or the Mosh group of which Jason is a member.
hmmm several years back i went to see the imperials in Temple Texas at Bethel Assembly Of God and there were three young guys and Armond who was running the show his son was one of the young guys. i bought a cd had some cool songs, Gabriels lips are on the trumpet, Big God, tons of awesome songs Armonds son testified that his dad had a old propecy come true to write songs while he had been sick in hospital and he wronte and sang the winds of change awesome song

As has been alluded to, The Imperials (the original group) no longer exists. The Classic Imperials (Armond Morales, David Will, Paul Smith and Rick Evans)continues to carry the Imperials tradition.
I really started listening to The Imperials when Paul Smith was the lead (good to see him back), but the Russ Taff era was when the group enjoyed their greatest popularity.

I just saw the Classic Imperials in Youngstown , OH . on Thurs. 6.17.10 and they did this song and it was INCREDIBLE !! Their harmonies , their personalities were all GREAT !

I believe it is over but these aren't the ones doing the suing; it was Armond's son's band (who are officially The Imperials after Armond sold them the group) who did the suing. I am not saying that to take sides just pointing out a general fact and not trying to say who is right and who is wrong. I would; however, keep both bands in your prayers as I am sure this took a real toll on everyone involved.

The original slightly reminded me of "A Land Down Under" by Men At Work.

Jim-I agree with you on the other group(Blackwood and Co), but these guys here are very good and are good Christian men. They do have a great sound and now that the name issue is solved, there should be no problem. Please rethink your idea about these guys. I use to think the same way you did, but God and Rick Evans changed my mind. Rick has a heart as big as the world.

One other thought. I hear these guys at eh Grand Ole Opre with Larry Gatlin a few months ago. They were part of his history. I guess Larry sang with them in the beginning of his career. I thought I knew everything about The Imperils.. Sorry The CLASSIC Imperials. Guess not. I better brush up on my Gospel Music history.

Where have all the greats gone. It is so good to see these guys still going. They were a big part of my life back in the 80's.
I still remember the concerts and all the churches talking abut eh secular influence of The Imperials. Now all the churches have gone far past what they condemned at that time. I wonder if they remember how hard they made it for us youth.

I met these guys about ten years ago when I was in the 7th grade. They inspired me to sing and sing out for the lord. I am now a professional opera singer in south florida. For years it was my dream to be a part of this group; of course my dreams went other places, but these guys were the start of it all. And yes Armond still has it! Love these guys!

They all knew, all the former members, (and there are quite a few), they knew the gentelmans agreement between Little Anthony's group and Armond, so they should all honor that premise, and give the rightful right to The Imperials (the younger), and I hope that will be the case. Furthermore, when a person battles cancer, sometimes they arent thinking very clearly for quite a long time. Im not making excuses for Armond, but my brother has cancer, and I am one who knows. Chemo does massive damage to ones entire system. Maybe that contributed to Armonds lapse in judgement, but he took responsibility. He's a big man in my book.

After being around the current group the other night, I suspect things are going to be fine with Armond's group --I even see a day when they will work together. The Elvis chasing group should be next on the list--and I think they are. They are actually using the full Imperials name chasing Elvis fans. That needs to stop in my opinion and in the opinion of the current members, I think.

JohnHansard-I agree, however, the youngers have protected thier ministry, and the elders have backed off the name. Armond has made a public apology. Mercy sakes! I think it's time they got rid of thier rift and made it known to the public. I know both groups myself, and just feel this is wearying some, myself included. God help us if something happens to Armond before this is resolved. It would be a grevious burden to bear for all. Has anyone thought of that?

gstuart-The current group of Imperials must protect their ministry and I am sure that will continue, but things are being worked out, I think. Armond has changed his tune somewhat and the current Imperials openly discuss Armond and the history of the group in their concerts--and do it very fondly. I heard them do just that the other night in Amarillo, Texas. I continue to pray for healing in that situation and that there be great work in other situations where the Imperial name is being abused.

When I was first introduced to ccm in the early 80's, one of the first groups was The Imperials. They had (and still have) some of the smoothest sounds going! They have a long history with roots going back to the great Jake Hess when he originally the group. Now there is a group called The Imperials having a problem with Armond and David calling themselves The Classic Imperials. As far as I can see there is room for both groups
in Christian music, one being "classic" & the other "current"

They, too are good but are NOT The Imperials. The two should boast of their credentials as former Imperial members in their NEW group. Happens all the time. What MOSH is doing is disgusting. Their problem is that no matter what they will NEVER live up to a legacy provided by Armond when he was in The Imperials and that is bothering them. They will always garner more attention the the MOSH inspired version of The Imperials We will see when the dust settles what happens but it's a sad day when The Imperials name is being dragged down like this when MOSH has done nothing so far to cause people to be impressed by their version of The Imperials.

amadeus-There are MANY great bass singers in the world and Armond is one of them, but he is not the end all be all of the world. The current Imperial bass is VERY good as well--as a matter of fact, I read an interview that Armond had that said he personally thought the current bass singer was as good as they would ever find. He sold The Imperials to the current group and gave them his blessing to continue the legacy--because he felt they were all talented enough to do so--and they are!

Everything you stated is absolutely true and I did not mean to imply that Armond was the end all, be all but what I do not understand is if MOSH is so concerned about the confusion of the name,why aren't they taking the Blackwood/Moescho Imperials brand to court as well? They go around using the Imperials name and nothing is being done by MOSH at all. I still think it's a little ego problem on the younger Imperials part but not saying Armond is blameless either. amadeus, I fully agree with you. I have said all along that the Blackwood/Moescho group were doing the most ethically wrong in my book by actually using the name. I have had hints that they will be trying to do something about that as well. I actually e-mailed Blackwood about it and got some interesting answers. I also agree that ego is at work here in many areas with many people. And it is a shame considering some are Godly ministries we are talking about.

Bottom line is for me it just a shame that the legacy of The Imperials will be tarnished with all of this. I think the Classic Imperials name would be just fine and everyone would know who they are getting but the other Imperials(Blackwood, et al) should not be billing themselves as that at all. Never thought it come to this and in the end, this could affect MOSH in a way they really didn't want. I remember what a famous Christian artist once told me, CCM business is just that, a business!

Think the Classic Imperials would better than the other group actually using the name--think they will get to that. The Imperials are doing what they need to do to protect their ministry. Think they really are on the right track. This group in this video will be one day I think. The other, not sure--think they are just chasing Elvis fans!

Everything you stated is absolutely true and I didn't mean to imply that Armond was the be all end all but I guess I am just having a problem with MOSH claiming that it is causing confusion when the Blackwood/Moscheo Imperials are using the name 'Imperials' in everything they do. I do not think for one moment that the name 'Classic Imperials' is as confusing as the Blackwood's use of the actual name Imperials. I think it is boiling down to egos by MOSH bugt Armond isn't totally blameless either

Pardon me for saying this but it's a fact that Armond was extremely stingy with paying the talent in the group since it's inception. He was a good guy, but he was all business. And apparently so is this mosh group. The Imperials are almost 20 yrs removed from much relevancy. The name no longer has much clout. How the "new" group can claim Awards, and Gospel Hall of Fame inductee status is unconsciounable. Maybe they should just grow up and act like men who call themselves Christians.

The new young members of The Imperials have brought the goup back from almost death in the 90's and early 2000's--under the helm of Armond Morales, I might add. They are fine, Christian Ministers, talented singers and great businessmen as well. But, to be fair-- This group of two former members are good as well.

How can Jerry Jones claim he has won all those superbowls? He bought the name and rights to the Cowboys, the same thing these guys did. They own anything and everything associated with the Imperials, inluding the awards. This was never questiioned when other members were with the group that hadn't won them either. Why question it now? They own the Imperials and they own the claiming rights, just like any other group. I can't figure out why that's so hard for some to understand.

There have always been different members over the years and all have wanted support from former members and go it--why is this group any diffent? They are highly talented according to Armond Morales, so talented he passed The legacy to them! This is beyond childish, it is sad and unChristian. Rick does an excellent job, and the combo sounds great! As someone who watched the hijacking unfold, It's a dark day when a Gospel Legend and his 50 year legacy are given a dollar sign by a self serving relative. I've seen this before, and it always seems to come full circle. At least Armond and the guys still have my respect, and their own self-respect.

I must add that after reading the "open letter" from the young Imperials, it does seem like they have a legit arguement. I'll stick to my two previous points but will tone down the bias towards one side or the other. It's a sad day for the legacy of such a great group. Can't really blame either side for just wanting to make a living doing what they love.

Found the open letter on The Imperial site. I agree, they seem to be correct on this one! After a reading an additional article about the lawsuit, it appears to be a simple case of seller's remorse on Armond's part. This group in this video is very good, Rick has a great voice, but they are NOT The Imperials.

I see both sides, but, I was actually there for over 2000 shows and know exactly who the Imperials & who won the awards. Armond, Jim, Dave, & Russ won 90% of them. However, a deal is a deal and one can't very well argue a legitimately signed agreement. Although, if my Dad called me and said, "Son, I need to still make a living and here is what that means" I'd have a hard time denying him. Just being honest. To say the Armond and Dave are not the Imperials is just not historically correct.

Armond,Dave, Russ, Terry, etc, are all FORMER members of the group The Imperials! That is what is fact. They should all be very proud of that fact and use as as they can legally. But, making sure that people think they are The Imperials currently in any manner is wrong. That is unethical at best. I do not think that the current Imperials want to stop the others from making a living--that is not the reasoning at all seems to me. There should only be one group--that is what they are interested in.

Were you "on mic" in the studio when they recorded these projects? Did you write any of the songs or produce? No, you were barely born. So I buy the name "The Beatles". Now I'm a "Beatle"? See what I mean, it just doesn't play out the way you think it does no matter what documents you hold in your hand. Even if you win.....you lose and look foolish.

Not a valid argument. Some of the guys that you mentioned did not win some of the awards, but as members of the group took credit for all of them. As owners of The Imperials, the current group is entitled to speak as the group, about the group. They are saying that The Imperials have won these awards--and that is a fact--as much of a fact that THEY are The Imperials. Why can't the older guys support them like they wanted others to do when they were in the group? I still say ego!

I just want to say that everyone should consider what that day will be like when the "memorials" begin for some of the original Imperial legends. Will you be proud of your actions against them? Will you hold your head high? Will it mean anything more than just pure vanity. Picture yourself in that moment. The "Classic Imperials" could easily co-exist with any new group of "Imperials". What could that possibly do but help both groups?
A little perspective would serve you well at this time.

Have seen both groups in concert.
MOSH continues to push their agenda. Armond continues to back up. Bottom line. MOSH is sewing Armond, gone after Joe, Terry, and Sherman. They are currently fighting Clarence Collins who has had the name Imperials since the late 50's.
If MOSH don't get what MOSH wants they sew. Armond has let the name go, now let's let Armond go.

PT 1 of 2: How many of you found out what the Imperials have to say about this whole thing? There are two sides to the story, and to conclude from one side isn't fair. Maybe the Artist/Classic Imperials are all correct, or the Imperials, or maybe there's truth & error to both sides? You are posting your comments that now go worldwide. I find it a shame no matter what the truth is, that this is happening.

PT 2 of 2: Check out both sides, keep up to date with both websites (The Imperials will be posting their side on their website), and use wisdom & caution. I hope when all is settled, they will reconcile and sing on the same stage together- THAT would be a great concert! In the meantime-enjoy the music from both of the groups!

After reading the CT article, and reading what was on The Imposters web site, I am so fed up with the MOSH group. Armond is not even using the name and they are still crying. I know they are just upset that they dont have a major deal and Armonds group does. The MOSH group is just flopping around like a fish out of water and it's a matter of time before they slowy fade away and they have killed the name "The Imperials". The MOSH group should stop now and walk away...

The Bible has something to say about suing brothers. Not only does the suit involve dishonoring of an earthly father, but the heavenly one they purport to represent. What a belittling of Christ, and a mockery of the gospel they preach. I won't be purchasing any MOSH Imperials productions -- and indeed will encourage those around me to read the CT article and come to their own conclusion.

Jake Hess would be ashamed at Armond and crew for not supporting his group--The Imperials. There have been many members that did not win awards as members of the group, but they took credit as a group member. much like the new members of this group are trying to pass themselves off riding the coattails of Armond. Foks you are not Imperials fans, you are Armond fans. If he had wanted to continue as an Imperial, he should have stayed with the group. he didn't and he isn't. This is shameful!

Jake was a good friend of mine. I spent hours with him and was there when he passed away. If Jake were alive he would be embarrassed that a group calling themselves the Imperials could not sing any better than they do. He would have never put any of the members of the young Imperials in any of his groups. So dont tell me what Jake would do, I can tell you that he would have been at Armonds side when Armond was fighting cancer if he could have been. You speak out of ignorance

all the story has to do is show that Armond made a mistake and acknowledged the mistake he made. It will show that his son and the group are sueing him which I can promise will scare them with pastors and marketing outlets. They will see that Armond has made it through a storm and is continuing on even after surendering the name that he worked over 40 years to build. I can promise an immediate huge amount of calls to Armond from pastors who depended on his music to pull them thru rough times

you will find that the industry, fans and pastors nationally who grew up on Armond's Imperials will be forgiving for the mistake he made because he acknowledge his judgemental error. Also knowing that Armond is 75 years old, has won a battle over cancer and now being sued by his son Jason, a wanna be will cause pastors to rallie behind this Legend and father. More than likely Armond will re srface bigger than ever while the young Imperials watch.

can you imagine the excitement it could generate. Not only would the industy take notice but the young group would grow so much by watching Armond. I worry for Jason, believe he is walking on thin ice. The sciipture says Honor you Father and Mother so that your days will be long on the earth. How can God bless Jason when he is outside of what the scripture says. I feel that pastors who advised them did a poor job. My father is 77, and even if he had been a drunk , a wife beater

I visited the young groups web sight and saw that they are promoting themselves as the group that has won all the awards. This dosent seem right to me seeing that they young group hasnt even had a number 1 song at radio. In fact you cant find them on radio in the major markets kije the one here in Dallas. It would seem like the young group would expand their horizons better by supporting Armond and perhaps sharing concerts. They could open as the Imperials and then introduce the Classics.

Armond has never been anything much but an Imperial, he has nothing else, but he left of his own accord, Dave simply would be nothing without Armond. It is a very sad situation and very unGodly on this group's part. Legal action is warranted to stop this madness of this group and others. You mean THE IMPERIALS? Sounds like great business to me. By the way why was it that Armond waited until Mr. Hess died to pull this kind of crap? I suspect because he knew that Jake Hess would kick his butt for having such an ego. God needs to be brought back into to this--on all sides. It is really a sad situation. I am Dave Will's daughter and I am sick you bashing him on a public website. My father does not have an ego problem, if you knew him you would know that is ridiculous. I can't believe you said he was nothing without Armond, my father earned his accomplishments, his voice is on the albums they won awards for. Their fans will stick by them no matter what name they have. Armond and his family are family to us and this is hard enough as it is without your obnoxious comments.

Why in the world would you think that they could not do as well as the other guys? They are highly talented. They are young and need to learn their own lessons--just like some other young guys of the 60's-80's. The 90's The Imperials were all but forgotten,not they are back again and beginning where they once began. They do not need to be Armond and Dave and I don't think want to be. I think there is an ego problem here as well as severe denial life goes on, sometimes without us--get over it!

But JohnHansard you are wrong about the other guys having egos as well, they are all sweet are caring men who just want to minister and sing and others are trying to prevent them from doing so. To tell my dad he can't let people know who he used to sing with is crazy, people do it all the time. You can't erase over 20 years in a music group, there are Imperials albums with Armond and my dad's face on them, can you erase that?

Jason is a grown man and has a busines and ministry to protect. I don't know the whole story, just this side that I have heard here. I do think it is a shame that any family is injured over something like this. But,there should only be one group of The Imperials and legalities should be take to make sure that happens. Looks to me that if Jason is not honoring father, then father is not honoring son by not helping him grow as an Imperial and mentoring him. You can bet, ego is at play here!

music- On the suit, please contact them and ask them why they are suing. From what I was told by the lead singer of The Imperials, it isn't as simple as you may think. Please get both sides. Extremely few have even bothered to contact them for their side of the story. They will be posting it on their site also.

I'm kinda on the inside; I work for 2 of the Imperial groups. They are friends of mine.
This is a painful yet unique time in the history of the group. But let the chips fall where they may, that's THEIR buisness. Appreciate and share THE MUSIC that is coming from ALL the Imperials. It's astounding! When all the chatter is quieted, all that remains in the years to come, will be the music. There will never be another group like them, no matter which version.

I have trouble believing that anyone who had been in the business as long as Armond would try to sell a national trademark he did not own. I believe Armond in his mind sold the right for the young guys to carry on, Because Armond had fought a battle with cancer I am sure he thought perhaps his time to travel and sing was done. Armond made a mistake which he has acknowledged trying to tell the young group he had no right to sign a trademark document.

It was after the record company spent money producing a new project for the Classic imperials that all of a sudden the young group opposed Armond being back on the scene with a great new project because it suddenly became apparent that Armond and his Legacy would hinder the young group's progress. The record company was in shock because Armond was brought to them by Jason. Jason claimed he was not suing his dad but the group was or the Mosh group of which Jason is a member.
