hahaha! I remember back in the day when I used to try to memorize every lotion he had. So that I would be able to take a shower in perfection like he did.
theres no doubt that christian bale had the chief part in several good movies, but only in this one
he really is in his element, in no other film he was that convincing, he just fits perfect for this movie, edward norton the alternative protagonist would've been a complete fail compared to christian bale.. moreover its really sad how ridiculous the sequel is.. thats not what the prequel deserve !! beside read the book its amazing , although some scenes are different from the movie
I have to thank Christian bale for this movie, it inspirated me so hard that I lost 60 Pounds and now I'm in the best shape of my life.... thank's Christian you are my idol!! :)
I really can recommend it to you; it's even better than the film, as everybody always sais. But the film contributes to the book by picturing Bale in the person of Patrick Bateman.
The most disturbing part of the clip was the Les Miserables poster right above his toilet... I don't know, but personally I would not like to stand there doing my morning business and staring at Little Cosette.
Watch The Rules Of Attraction, his brother is the main Character in that film: Sean Bateman. Although the two films are not linked, in the novels they are based on, they are linked. Plus, Sean Bateman has similar characteristics to his older brother Patrick Bateman. Watch it guys :)
@ikhoudvanvlaai No, are you a moron? He didn't kill anyone. That was the thing! When he called his lawyer, he just thought he was making a joke, because the lawyer had been in London together with Paul Allen. But Patrick "thought" he killed Paul and made it up that he flew to London, but he actually did flew to London. And all the hookers he slept with did not end up dead... He was just a psycho pretending to kill them, because Patrick assistent found his diary/blog on his office...
@rsavemark in the book the kills are real. his own lawyer did not even know him, so the guy he ahd dinner with could easily be someone else. not all kills were drawed. as i said everything untill the ATM scene is real.
@Aaminah84 Bateman never really killed anyone. That was all in his imagination. Pay attention to the end of the movie. Bateman was hallucinating all along.
this alot of you miss the point of this movie its trying to make a point about consumerism and greed the author of this book lived this way and said it was the unhappiest time in his life - its meant to be a funny satirical movie not a way to live life.
This whole movie is all about Bateman wanting to be "loved". He does everything so he could be part of the community. Bateman turns into serial killer because he doesn't "exist".
Every person in this movie is too narsistic to even remember his name ( Paul Allen thought he was Marcus. Lawyer thought that Bateman was Davis etc...)

@frustratedgamerguy He actually fantasizes about killing people. He tries to "live" through materialism, to fit into the system, but it is a dead end. His psychotic episodes are due to the part of him that wants to escape all this bullshit, by doing thins that are obviously not socially acceptables. And in the end, it turns this isn't a solution either. "This is not an exit"
@frustratedgamerguy Actually it's about what goes on inside a human's mind, he doesn't actually kill any of those people, it's all imaginary as it shows in the end, he drew it in that book and became engulfed with it. In the end Patrick Bateman realises his mind is corrupt and he wanted his mental pain to be inflicted on others.
@frustratedgamerguy Oh please, as if Bret Easton Ellis would ever pen something so pathetic. The aspects you cited are merely examples of the intense conformity and superficiality of the characters.
When i see people comment like the two below me who have way too much time on their hands to even care what is in or out of a cell it reminds me on a poster I once saw that said: "Arguing on the internet is like running in the special Olympics; even if you win you're still retarded."
this whole disturbing thing so that all the sins in this film will just tell you the way you should go, cause it shows how the bad way can be.... SO what the hell is the point of making this kind of films? Disney forever!!
@checkcheckchekchec sweetheart, welcome to reality. people you see that you may think are normal, accomplished, and caring people just because they look the part and have prestigous degrees are not. thats one of the main points of the movie, that noone would ever guess that he would do the things he did. Pat Bateman is your all-star sociopath that gets away with just about everything just because he fits the part. the real world is not your imaginary disney fairytail land.
@checkcheckchekchec Like all movies its supposed to entertain? The person who wrote this book is a genious. Its not a horror movie og some shitty splatter. Its a journey deep into the mind of a Nacissist, The I´d taking over. If you read some of the work Sigmund freud did the movie will make much more sense. @checkcheckchekchec it doesn't teach people to kill at all, thats quite clearly not the theme of the film, its about people not being all that they seem, and also possibly how a stressful, Wall street career and materialistic lifestyle can lead to an obsession with vices of various kinds, such as the drug use and of course the killing. Its ultimately an exploration into the mind and how it works
@checkcheckchekchec im sorry but people where killing each other stealing having feelings of lust greed hate waging war and all kinds of sick wrong things way before movies books music and video games have been around. its natural instincts. people will either grow up a decent human being or they wont with minimal effect from these influences as long as they are taken care of properly by parents
Patrick Batman is supposed to be cool, but he actually is a pathetic loser... Honestly, watch it again, he's being presented as this guy who's always doing the right thing, that people always compliment him and that he's in the height of fashion and poise. In reality, it turns out he is just another dreg: a cog in the machine. He was completely indistinguishable from the other parts.
Wow, silly me. I had no idea he (Christian Bale) is actually British. When British men must do an American accent, they make it sound 10x more charming and sexy. Take Ed Westwick on Gossip Girl for example. Patrick Bateman's voice is half of the charm. ;)
the torturing of the victims is much more violently in the book than in the film. like the chapter in wich he let´s a rat eat a living woman´s vagina......uhhhh
The book reads differently. Ah who gives a shit. Funny , though I know this movie gets into the thoughts of Patrick Batemon(serial killer) I somehow found this scene the most disturbing.
this movie is great in so many ways. most importantly for us young, professional men in our 20' and even 30's it shows how you should treat women and what priorities you need to put first (a stellar career). get yourself established and be a bro. then like patrick bateman you are going to have so many coming after you that you will have to beat them away with a stick
@rhumph4 it teaches you how to treat women? have you even seen the film? he kills one with a chainsaw, shoots another, decapitates the women he was having an affair with, and thinks about shooting his secretary with a nail gun. and that's just the movie. the book makes the film look like toy story.
@Rushthatspeaks Calm down over there pal. Just because me and 38 all-stars do not comform to your sterotypical, worthless 9 to 5 job, 3 kids, and a wife, who probably cheats on you from what i could tell from your comment, by the time we are 27 does not make us an intracellular, dependent organism. When you grow a backbone maybe one day you will be half decent, but for now just go chug a gallon of bleach and try to enjoy your dull life.
@cvict6 oh but, we have an inferior blowing off some steam. Parasites are INTRAcellular, obligate organisms that cannot survive without of the support of a host to feed on just like a virus you duffus. Therefore, that does classify them as intracellular, i.e. tapeworms invading and living in the gi tract of their host. Do your research before you try to one up somebody that is obviously smarter than you are.
"Do your research before you try to one up somebody that is obviously smarter than you are."
You might want to take your own advice and educate yourself moron. Intracellular specifically means within a cell. Parasites are EXTRAcellular. Viruses are technically only intracellular for a portion of their life cycle. Fail x2
@cvict6 Brainbuster, look up the life cycle of malaria. I am not going to be a tool and argue with you over an anonymous website. As you are going to see the majoirty of the reprodtive cycle is in the RBC (INTRAcellular).
@rhumph4 You said parasites are "intracellular organisms" in your obvious attempt to sound more intelligent than you actually are. The fact of the matter is they aren't. Most parasites, such as tapeworms which you specifically mentioned, spend their entire life cycle outside of the cell. That would make them by and large EXTRAcellular organisms. Now get back to stroking off to shitty obscure country music videos and thumb-upping your own cringe-worthy comments.
@1mnmfan Well, the problem with the film in my opinion, is that all the details is getting "lost in translation". Reading the book makes it all much clearar.
He never did kill anyone, it was all in his head. He's name might not even be Patrick Bateman. He is continueously "mistaken" for Marcus Halberstam for example and the lawyer in the end says he's not patrick bateman (and that paul owen is alive).
Read the book is my advice, it's so much better :) So much of the book got lost in the film
@johanssonhenrik92 i agree but you have to understand that the film was directed by a women the book tends to have scenes in which women are abused and mutilated. the director probally didn't like that so she took it out of the film. but the book is much better. i agree
I've got to say out of a lot of research on psychopaths that I think Bale's character is pretty inaccurate. He seem's more like a pedantic, OCD, competitive sort of person. I real psychopath holds in there feelings and when he's struggling over those cards he should be able to hold it in without a problem. When he kills as well he looks like he's getting hyped up and angry. A psychopath would do it as if it didn't mean anything more than doing the laundry. However this is a great film!
American Psycho will be always the peak of Christian Bale's film career.

@rhumph4
Parasites aren't INTRAcellular dumbass. Fail.
cvict6 9 months ago

Fail x2
cvict6 9 months ago
@cvict6 Brainbuster, look up the life cycle of malaria. I am not going to be a tool and argue with you over an anonymous website. As you are going to see the majoirty of the reprodtive cycle is in the RBC (INTRAcellular).
rhumph4 9 months ago
@rhumph4 You said parasites are "intracellular organisms" in your obvious attempt to sound more intelligent than you actually are. The fact of the matter is they aren't. Most parasites, such as tapeworms which you specifically mentioned, spend their entire life cycle outside of the cell. That would make them by and large EXTRAcellular organisms. Now get back to stroking off to shitty obscure country music videos and thumb-upping your own cringe-worthy comments.

so in the end was he just dreaming it? was it real? or we take a guess??
1mnmfan 1 year ago
@1mnmfan Well, the problem with the film in my opinion, is that all the details is getting "lost in translation". Reading the book makes it all much clearar.
He never did kill anyone, it was all in his head. He's name might not even be Patrick Bateman. He is continueously "mistaken" for Marcus Halberstam for example and the lawyer in the end says he's not patrick bateman (and that paul owen is alive).
Read the book is my advice, it's so much better :) So much of the book got lost in the film

@johanssonhenrik92 thanks ashole for ruinign it for the people who havnt seen it ;)
1money1 1 year ago
