nice video..so this setup of grommet at bottom and the valve sitting on top of it is standard layout across most engines..like for example in a toyota camry too? thanks
hi rich i did my valve cover gasket last year and it was still leaking so i did it again doing it perfect .so it still leaks down in the first spark plug well .i heard that this is common because the cover its self warps ,my question is i heard 99 + dont have the problem of warping if i can find one at my junk yard will a 99 or 00 fit my car ?
@ThebigHurtt 99-02 DOHC valve covers will not fit 98' and older heads, the newer heads are narrower due to the smaller hydraulic lifter/roller design.
I couldn't get mine out of my dakota. Fearful of damaging it I enlisted the help of a co-worker who claimed to be a dakota expert. He started yanking it right at the elbow. Before I could stop him he snapped the thing in half. What's worse turns out it wasn't even the pcv valve. It was the air breather cap on the other side of the engine. Doh!
Smog check technicians never check for tight hose connections from end to end.. They usually do visual inspections , that is it... PCV is a "vaccuum cleaner" for the blowby gases coming out of the bottom of pistons with nowhere to go . Actually PCV is a "slow" vaccuum cleaner which means that tight connections of hoses all around is very vital to keep air clean on the streets.. Blow by gases is not pleasnt to breath.
Groomet of the 5vz-fe from 1998 Toyota4runner not that easy like your video!! your groomet sit in look like NOT REALLY seal tight the vaccum therefore very easy to remove by fingers!!
We just got told our Saturn SC1 needs a valve cover, is that black rubber piece you took out it or is it something else? I'd love to do it ourselves if it will be cheaper and simple. :) If not could you make a video of that? Thanks!
@StephanieP3 The valve cover gasket is under the cover and not the same as what i did here. The SC1 is a easy one to replace even for a first timer.Check out my video called "Jason's Saturn SC " and you will seeing me removing the valve cover.Once the cover is removed replace the gasket and put the cover back on the way you took it off.
@studpuppy69 i dont kno whats up with all the saturn videos but im glad i found this dude beacuse i have the same car and i did lots of successful jobs on it because of this guy here. RICHPIN064 U DA MAN lol.
@Krysonomous Oil leaks is a big one the blocked PCV will cause the crankcase vapors start finding a new path of least resistance like the intake hose to the air box.
While replacing my valve cover the other end of the PVC valve's hose broke so I went to my local pull a part and after 50 minutes and 12 different cars I finally found an exact replacement. It took less that 12 seconds to remove the old hose I taped up and installed the new one, which was newer than the one that was in my car.
I have a 98 4cyl. contour. Having a hell of a time getting the PCV valve removed on my car, in a really bad location and it is very stubborn, im afraid im going to break something.

@ThebigHurtt I do not have one handy to compare but i believe the gen 3 DOHC cover is different from the gen 2.

is there a pcv valve on disel engines?
Phalanx96 3 months ago
@Phalanx96 I have never worked on a diesel but i do not see why the crankcase would not be vented.

Thank you for your reply richin06a but how would you know when to replace it? Any indicators? :)
Krysonomous 1 year ago
@Krysonomous The common way is to remove the valve and listen for a rattle if you hear one the valve is probably good

What are the symptoms to indicate that the PVC valve needs replacing?
