I personally use pot but here's why. I think to much. Literally to much, not ADD. I'd be what most people call a worry wort. Sure it's good to ackowledge potential consequences but I take it to a new extreme. For another example; I have a girl friend, and I am consistantly paranoid about loosing her for one reason or another and in Hengest's words pot is my "chill pill". Maybe some would say it's not the best way to deal with it but it works for me and it's great.
Dreams, a topic i understand very well. Dreams could be anything. They could be real, who knows, they could be nothing, who knows. We do not know anything. For all we know when we dream we actually go into a new world, experience what happens in that world, and then once we wake up it is just gone. If dreams are what most people think they are, then they are wrong. Some people try to think dreams are this... extra feeling... but we are really just brainwashing ourselves, as we do on many things.
@dolerbom Unfortunately, we do know that dreams are a chemical reaction in your head. we do not travel anywhere during dreams. The premise of your argument is that reality is not real. That is the same thought process as claiming that since god isn't empirically measurable, and we can not experience him in any capacity, he is real. Denial of reason is an act of annihilation.
I am not going to find a comment about it but i know there is one. I hate it when people bring up the, " Well alcohol is worse then weed!.... man." Well, the fact is, alcohol should be illegal too. The fact that it is not illegal shows a flaw in our society, and weed would just increase that flaw.... Comparing something bad to something bad and calling it less bad is like saying we should let a rapist out of jail because he is not a murderer.
I like your thought process, however i disagree with the concept that some how dreams help you understand reality beyond which our senses can perceive. Dreams are in our head, and they may help understanding through the development of thought process, but the only way it helps us understand the nature of reality through enhancing our perception of reality and the way we can reason through the things we observe. Your next video should be on your opinion of metaphysics. Im interested.
Deciding if drugs are good or bad are all based on opinion. If you don't do them, good for you. If you do, then good for you. Calling someone out if they do/don't use drugs is where the nonsense occurs. Keep it to yourself. I see it as my right if I want to go sit outside with some chilled music and smoke a joint. It doesn't make me a bad person. That's why I hate the laws against marijuana. There's a difference between protecting the people and controlling them.
@Preciety Think of it like this. You would never let an idiot have a job that can harm him or others. Well, if pot was legal, then we would all be idiots....
I'm perfectly happy without drugs so why would I want to start an addiction to drugs? Besides all the drug users in my school always look tired or in a slump and that doesn't seem very healthy to me. SxE
wow man, i started watching your vids because i'm a feral druid and all. but it is crazy to me how much you actually relate to me and as a person who does smoke marijuana, i respect the fact you don't and you express your deep thoughts and veiws without caring what other people think. you got strong individuality and i love this vid and would love to see more =)
wow, first of all haha wow. that was like five times better than inception xD i actually subscribed a few hours ago cuz u had a good mage guide and u were entertaining to listen to, and now watching through ur more recent vids and announcements like this ive grown to appriciate u much more. u have that personality of an open mind that i struggle to achieve myself. anyway, i rly look forward to ur vids both video games and discusions like that.
if i can speak for you that people say " You never used drugs how would you know?"
I Have! yet your so right, YOUR HIGH IN YOUR VIDEOS, no your not, i see your excited about video games(that doesn't mean he's on drugs people) iv seen all your videos and your an enthusiast like many of us who subcribe to your channel coz your interesting, not coz we think your high...
...i never really comment on you vids coz you say it all, and all is right from where im standing thnx man
I want to thank you for these type of videos you put on here, I suffer from Chronic Insomnia and listening to these videos of you just..talking is making coping when my Insomnia hits alot easier i could just sit and listen to you talk for hours xD So Thanks
Hengest, you got balls man, i cant even talk about this stuff with my closest friends...and you are posting videos to the public about??!!?!?!?! you crazy man =p PROPS
I did say that i didnt like your decision to go to TGN and im happy for you, even though i hate needing to look thru thousands of videos to find one i like. But i am willin to go thru some hoops to watch ur vids :)
Beyond the Wall of Sleep by HP Lovecraft is an excelent story on a similar topic.
I have no doubt that I go places in my "dreams". I do things that it's probably best not to remember. I've left my body a few times that I still remembered after waking and it was quite nice.
That being said and side effects aside, I'd still like to gain the first hand knowledge of what it's like to use Marijuana. I've studied it quite often and I'm alright with the concequences, so am I restricted from it?
Hmmm I don't really know what to write. I agree with you in a certain way but I really did not appreciate that you compare taking drugs with meditation. I used to do martial arts and I used to meditate alot. I think meditating is like cleaning up your mind, you get things sorted out. Make peace with yourself. Taking drugs does the opposite thing; you just forget your problems and that causes even more problems.
@monstanator "The thing is, I now prefer to drink Vodka and get drunk, as when buying a bottle of vodka..you always know whats in it and the effects it gives you.
weed is always different and you can never be 100% sure whats in it" -----

I am sorry Neandrathal, but as you were promising in previous videos that in this "deep channel" you have some new ideas you would like to share with others, I must dissapoint you. But there's nothing new to what you are saying. Everyhing you've said here, has been mantioned a very long time ago many times. So it is certainly "new", but it is new only to you. Plus there are many errors in what you are saying, which could be proven wrong or even ideologized in other theoritical approches. Sorry
@simonovych Yeah. No. There is relatively NOTHING new to say. We have been on this Earth for a good long time now. There are roughly 6 and a half billion of us, as well as the deceased generations. What matters is that he expressed his opinion, and that some people, like me, are very interested in what he has to say.
And when did he claim they were new ideas? That no one had ever said these before?
What you are talking about is a chemical our brain makes when we enter a sleep state called Rem
And that chemical is called Dimethyltryptamine aka DMT a naturally occurring psychedelic
Ive smoked DMT and honestly it was worth trying, you can only remember what happened trough meditation,
You can also achieve this state of mind with meditation and you feel as if you're mind is opened to the world! I'm also deeply interested in Philosophy & im down to hear some more of you're thoughts
@Neandrathal funny how this guy says nothing at all... i like both ur channels nean :) keep up the videogame vids and the "deep" ones :) glad you did what you wanted to :). might want to try yoga :) Raja Yoga to be more precise... give it a call and tell me your thoughts :D
Awesome video Hengest. Its cool to see you doing this and taking on a somewhat taboo subject. Everyone has different perspectives on this topic wich is what makes it interesting to talk about but many are affraid to. Kudos for having the balls to take this one as a first topic. Keep up the good work buddy ;)
Speak the truth man, from personal use i do smoke "weed" but recently it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Don't listen to the BS, forget about the assholes and just do what ya want. Just from watching this video i'm taking a vow to not smoke because i know it isn't going to lead me somewhere good, so thank you for this new perception on life. and for all you arguing in comments, seriously stfu this guy just tries to spread the good throughout the world through the use of the internet.
anyone have something to say about the phrase "out of your mind"? because this implies that the mind is physical, which is not what i think. i think the mind is thought.
Hengest, I was originally quite disappointed when I found out you were no longer persuing the feral videos on this channel, but I find it uncanny that if i were to choose another subject on which you could present us with this would definitely be up there, you see I too have great interest in this field and have been trying to teach myself the way of lucid dreaming for quite some time with very minimal success. Maybe you could address Lucid dreaming sometime in the near future?
More about the video I'm posting on though, to be honest before clicking on it I thought it was going to be a big joke :P. The still picture for the video with the lighting that way and all and the title lead me to believe that this was going to be you acting emo or something and be a big joke. Not saying I don't like the lighting or anything it works :P. I only watched a little bit of it for now, way overtired and about to go die in bed I'll watch the rest later.Anyway again FUCK the haters bro
"Humans by nature are anarchists" very Thomas Hobbes of you Mr. Leviathan, I live in American and believe in what the Constitution was based on, more of a John Locke guy myself. =P just messin wit ya man =)
Hengest, It's pretty simple. I've even been trying to keep what I type and what I say clean lately for certain reasons but this deserves a big... FUCK THE HATERS. Haters gonna hate, let them be mentally unstable if they choose to, do what you want with your channel. While you may be making videos and focusing on what your subscribers want ultimately it comes down to the fact that it is still YOUR channel. I personally support you and will stay subbed with w/e you do. FUCK the haters. FUCK em.
As long as you keep making great vids, I don't care at all on wich channel they are =P TGN has other great directors, wouldn't have found that channel if you didn't join it! Keep up the good work Hengest
the mind is physical as is the brain. The "mind" is the word we use to describe what the brain does. Which is physical as well. Electricity is physical, which is what the mind is.
You brought science into this argument. You said that it can't prove it with science, and I beg to differ. If something takes place within the construct of reality then it can be demonstrated scientifically and documented.
@IHasChannel Actually Science can never answer why something is, but only how something is. Science fails when it comes to intentionallity, and will continue to fail at it for quite some time. Eg. I hit a billiard Q to break the racked balls, I can explain scientifically how it happened just fine, but I cant explain why it happened scientifically, and if I try it runs into an infinite regress of intention. Thats why you can never stop asking why.
I never said science could explain why. In fact my point is that science can explain how. But there isn't always a why to something, there is always a how.
@IHasChannel The mind portion is the why portion, just because you know exactly which synapse fire off for a specific thought doesn't answer the question of mind which you seem to conflate with brain. And we simply don't know if there is or is not an answer to all why and how questions, it's a known unknown, but to flatly say that there isn't always one is a flat out appeal to ignorance and wrong. We simply don't know what future knowledge and information will bring.
But the mind also has a how. How the mind works. The reason I say there isn't always a why is a generally broad statement applying to various things. Why do humans exist? There probably isn't an answer to that question, and before you leap and say something supernatural, that is something that would need to be demonstrated.
Now there may very well be a why, but I don't think we always need one.
The thing I am pointing out here is that there absolutely is a how to the mind. How do we think? Synapses. Why do we think? The reason philosophically is an unknown, but the reason scientifically is because thought it a process of the mind.
Science can answer why, but not in a philosophical sense, (though some would argue that science is a type of philosophy and this isn't far from true).
@IHasChannel At present, there is no how for the mind, mind is the intentionality found in the how of the brain, this seems to be what you are missing. Mind is why, brain is how. To further clarify, Mind is thought.
What is the mind? The mind is thought, we agree. Thought is caused by synapses in the brain. This is how the mind works. That's the simplest. I encourage you to watch "How the Mind Works by Steven Pinker" on YouTube. One of my favorites. (It's actually a book, but the audio version is on YouTube).
@IHasChannel Wow, you don't understand mind in the slightest. You are saying brain precedes mind. And to your "watch 'How the Mind Works by Steven Pinker'" I say watch The Quantum Activist. The supremacy of mind or brain is a very debated issue, and neither side has a decisive victory for the moment, but I throw my hat in with mind and you apparently throw yours in with brain. So since we will only be talking past each other at this juncture, good bye.
I never said brain precedes mind. I'm not even sure what that means. The brain comes before the mind? Well in the womb during development yes. Precedes is a way to describe events in time, so what you said doesn't even make sense. What I did say though is that thought or mind is the process of the brain. They coincide. The brain is what the mind uses to function. Much like hardware is what runs software. I understand the mind better than you think.
@IHasChannel The logical consequence of your position is is the primacy of brain over mind. Sure you can compare mind and brain to software and hardware respectively, but software and hardware don't function without a user telling the software what it should be doing. This is why I said good bye, you keep placing mind in an untenable position. So once again, good bye.
You claim I keep placing the mind in an untenable position, but I haven't even explained the position. The user in the analogy you speak of is evolution. Evolution is what programmed the mind. The mind appears designed to perform basic and complex functions. This is what evolution brought on is the mind. I'm sorry that you couldn't understand this on your own, or even know enough about science to understand this, but your ignorance doesn't make my position untenable.
@IHasChannel That is an unwarranted assumption from the information given and is analogous to a religious position. I recognized this point when I initially said good bye, further I said good bye because I had a strong feeling that it would devolve into "EVOLUTION RULZ ALL, RAPTOR JESUS BLAH BLAH BLAH FLAME ON" and my feelings were right. So, enjoy your logical positivist view and good by for the third time.
I'm sorry that you don't comprehend that evolution is a fact and that the brain and mind are clearly explained in theory of the mind. But again, your ignorance is your problem. When and if you care that your beliefs are true, hopefully you'll care to learn about science instead of calling my position untenable and having absolutely zero understanding about how evolution works.
Evolution is a fact. Evolution does not rule all. It is a process of life.
@IHasChannel Actually, I understand evolution quite well, and have had to correct many biology majors on the functions present in evolutionary theory. I take evolutionary theory to be about as strong a theory as the Einsteinian model of general relativity, also brain and mind are not clearly explained in theory of the mind because it has logical positivism as an assumed postulate. Logical positivism was disproven in the mid 1930's.
If you honestly accept evolution then why would you mock me for accepting it? Secondly, theory of mind is based on empiricism, this hasn't been demonstrated to be false, but that's not really relevant. Yes empiricism plays a role in logical positivism but logical positivism and empiricism do not go hand in hand. We have empirical data and observational, repeatable, testable evidence which grounds theory of mind. That's what we call the scientific method.
@IHasChannel Theory of mind makes unwarranted conclusions from the evidence given. Those conclusions were made because of a logical positivist presupposition. Now stop trolling me, and good bye for the fourth time.
You really aren't much for just having a discussion. Why when I present contradicting evidence to you you call me a troll? Do yourself a favor and grow a fucking spine. Either have a rational, logical, scientific discussion or don't. Don't sit here and call me a troll and then make false claims like you have been continuously. Theory of mind does not derive from logical positivism alone. Sorry, you're just wrong and that's easy to demonstrate, and I have.
@IHasChannel You aren't presenting contradictory evidence. You are presenting evidence for your position that is evidence that I find severely lacking and that doesn't support its conclusions, and you keep pressing the issue after I pointed this out four times now. So, you are either grossly ignoring my position or you are trolling me, and since I stated my position four times already I assume you are trolling.
I could say the same about you. You aren't listening to my position either. I'm sorry I can't present you with a full dissertation on the evidence for the evolution of the brain but it's there. All you have to do is look it up. Try visiting a library. I've explained the evidence as vaguely as I could as I don't want to have to write 40 comments to explain it, but again my point is that your ignorance is not a defense of your position. And now I am finished.
@IHasChannel I have looked it up, and have found the conclusions to not be supported by the evidence, it is a good explanation for now, but it is severely lacking, lacking enough to say that there is more than meets the eye going on with mind, yet Theory of Mind says its all solved, evolution did it. What part of that don't you get? So, good bye for the fifth time.
@IHasChannel "more than meets the eye going on" read the next word, it is a trite expression meaning that there is more evidence than the evidence presented
@IHasChannel I am implying that there is not enough evidence to support the claim that the evolution of the brain can show that mind can be explained away through the physical means of the brain.
In which case I semi-agree with you. The evidence that details exactly how the brain evolved is imperfect, but the evidence does show that the brain did evolve. The exact process is unknown. There is enough evidence to support the claim that the brain did in fact evolve. How precisely we may never know as we didn't witness it directly but obviously there are other ways of determining causes.
@IHasChannel And this is the crux of the disagreement. The brain is a product of what the mind does. A key piece of evidence for this is present in quantum physics, specifically in quantum wave phenomenon. Really really really strange shit happens in consideration of mind. There is more evidence needed to warrant the conclusion of "the mind is a product of what the brain does"
"There is more evidence needed to warrant the conclusion of "the mind is a product of what the brain does""
No there isn't. The evidence is fully supported to that conclusion. Without a brain there is no mind. The brain is what the mind needs to exist. That's why we are declared dead when brain function ceases. Without the brain you cannot think, thinking is a process of the mind which requires a brain. The evidence is sufficient.
@IHasChannel The evidence is not sufficient. We don't know that without brain, mind doesn't exist. We don't know if brain is the driver of mind or mind the driver of brain. Actually we aren't declared dead when brain function ceases, it's a bit more complicated than that. The evidence is not sufficient.
We don't know that without the brain the mind doesn't exist? I'm sorry but I will demonstrate that your false. Kill your brain, and then try to communicate with me. If you fail, the conclusion is true. Of course we'd have to repeat this for a while until we get enough of a pool to suggest that it's true. Oh wait we've done that already. There's no reason to think that the brain is capable of existing without the mind. The evidence is sufficient.
@IHasChannel Not necessarily true. There have been people that have woken up from brain death, thats why they keep you on life support for a while, because there is the possibility to wakeup from brain death, and yes it does happen.
That's unconsciousness, which is a lack of response from the brain. The cells in the brain remain alive so long as they receive oxygen. Brain death is when the cells in the brain actually die. Once they are dead, they cannot be brought back to life.
The mind is a process of the brain. We know this because we can detect brain waves, which are in the form of electrical currents. Electrical currents need a physical medium in which to interact, in this case the brain. Without the medium, (brain), the electrical currents do not continue. And yes, the death of the brain is the only kind of irreversible death. Once the brain goes, so does all the functions inherent of it, namely, the mind.
@IHasChannel Mind is not necessarily a process of the brain. Yes, we detect synapse fire and it is associated with mind, but it is an unwarranted conclusion to say that mind is the firing of those synapse.
No it's not. We have demonstrated how those synapses fire and what series of synapses cause certain thoughts. We can demonstrate that certain chemical changes to the brain can cause a change in brainwave function, subsequently causing changes to the way synapses fire, subsequently causing change of the state of mind. This is why a drunk man's reaction time is slow. Synapses slow, mind process slows. The evidence is sufficient.
The only way you can justify that there is something more to the mind than meets the eye (as in a mind could go on without a brain) is to present evidence of that. If you can't, then your position is in fact the one that is untenable, while mine is grounded in observable evidence.
@IHasChannel Actually, there is another way. I could show that there is more evidence than the evidence given, and I present quantum wave phenomenon. There is crazy stuff that goes on that your position doesn't consider relevant, but could quite possibly be extremely relevant.
Until it is demonstrated, the current evidence siggest and is sufficient to accept that the mind is a product of the brain. Until such time, you're talking out your ass. Goodnight.
@IHasChannel And in antiquity the current evidence suggested that the sky was blue because the firmament healed up an ocean. Until such time you realize your position is that of a strong logical positiveist and has an inherent prejudices against any explanations of value or why answers you are just talking out of your ass, and I recognized this the first time I said good bye, and thats why I said it then, so for the fifth time good bye.
Nonsense. You clearly don't comprehend evidence, the scientific method, or empiricism. Logical positivism is irrelevant, and not why I accept my position. You dont get it, and you clearly have no desire to get it. That example you gave of the sky being blue was not at the time based on the scientific evidence we have today nor based on a structured peer reviewed scientific method. Fail.
@IHasChannel The sky example was an example of a false belief, I could have gone with a geocentric universe, would that have been better? And yes I do understand the evidence, but the evidence does not warrant the conclusion, because the conclusion was made because of a postulate of logical positivism. You are the one that fails because you are blindly accepting another's conclusion without complete examination of the evidence presented.
"You are the one that fails because you are blindly accepting another's conclusion without complete examination of the evidence presented."
Complete and utter misrepresentation and lack of understanding of the scientific method and peer review. Your ignorance is absolutely astonishing. Do the world a favor and pull your head out your ass. I grow tired of this nonsensical discussion with someone who claims I am accepting something without evidence when I presented it to you.
@IHasChannel No, its not. There has been plenty of peer review to go both ways on this topic. There are plenty of scientists who agree on my side and plenty on your side, enough so to create an impasse of opinion. You are being a bigoted child that is trolling hard.
You don't have any idea on what you are talking about. There have not been scientists on both sides of this peer review process. Science and the majority of biological scientists will tell you and agree that the mind is a product of the brain. The evidence is overwhelming and that's why it's called a fact. It's not even difficult to understand, I'm actually confused how you don't get it. Please, just look on any accredited science journal. This is really not too difficult.
I've already agreed with you that how it happens is not understood. I'm with you there. How does consciousness arise? I have no clue and yes that is debated among scientists today. Fine. I'm with you. But they all agree that consciousness requires a brain.
@IHasChannel Mind is Consciousness, Mind is Thought, Brain is simply where it occurs, and no they don't all agree that it requires a brain, some do some don't.
@LuLuLeLoupGarou Let's ignore other scientists even the ones I can cite, for the sake of this question for a moment.
Have you ever seen an intelligence/mind, exist without a brain construct? (Artificial intelligence also requires a brain, albeit not a biological one). No, there is no evidence to ever suggest that a mind can exist without a brain. Deductive reasoning would then tell you that a brain is required for thinking.
@IHasChannel No, I want you to cite your scientists. And that is inductive logic, not deductive, you are making a conclusion based on observed occurrences. That is inductive logic not deductive.
The evidence supports the claim, if you don't get that then you are just harping on the "you can't prove me wrong" nonsense. It's a logical fallacy and fails to make any sense in any real world application. You haven't justified your position only postulated. The evidence that the mind is the process of the brain is so overwhelming at this point that it is scientific fact. Your ignorance of the science doesn't make you look better but even without it, your position is weak.
And apparently you don't even comprehend your own position. Your position is based on absolute certainty. As to claim if I can't prove with absolute certainty, there must be more then meets the eye. That's basically no different than people who say "You can't prove god doesn't exist". It's nonsense and you're getting no where.
@IHasChannel No, I comprehend quite well. The conclusion is a conclusion that has extremely deep running implications, and because of the depth of the implications the bar for the level of evidence required to make that conclusion is set quite high, not to the level of certainty, but much further than the level of evidence that is thus far given. I do not find the level of evidence sufficient, nether does many scientists.
Nonsense. Cite them. Even so it wouldnt matter. It's been peer reviewed. Unless these scientists have their ideas peer reviewed then they are just "some guys" with letters behind their name making unjustified claims.
@IHasChannel Did you seriously just say that? "Nonsense. Cite them. Even so it wouldnt matter. It's been peer reviewed." So peer reviewed science has never been wrong? No the lipid hypothesis is completely correct, No steady state universe is completely correct, No the sound barrier is not breakable. Seriously? Now who is the ignorant one that won't listen to evidence.
What you said is there are some scientists who agree with your position. But they haven't had their ideas published in a peer reviewed scientific journal. Until they do they are just some guy making a claim. It needs to be peer reviewed before it can be considered science.
That's what I actually said. YOU quoted me out of context and claim that I think peer review is infallible. Never said that, but it is the most reliable way to acquire knowledge.
@IHasChannel No, I didn't quote you out of context, and what makes you think I have a different definition of peer review than you. Just look up most of the recent work of Amit Goswami, this is the kind of things he is proposing. He is a well respected quantum physicist that wrote many of the books for quantum physics that are being used in universities today. My position is not some crackpot position, and is a well established position in many disciplines of academia.
The fact that quantum physics MAY be playing a part in the brains function does NOT mean that the mind is not a product of the brain. In addition, I would be more interested to know what work of his has been peer reviewed and what is postulate. For example his proofs for the existence of god haven't been peer reviewed, they're just postulate. You can't say well he has some peer reviewed papers therefore everything he says must have credibility. (continued)
You have to take each claim on its own merit and investigate each claim. A perfect example of that is Isaac Newton. Isaac newton had great ideas with physics, and was a mathematical genius of his day. He also believed in alchemy. Should we give alchemy credibility because Isaac Newton says so?
Anyway the point here is that evolutionary biology does demonstrate the evolutionary cause of the brain and it does demonstrate how and why certain functions of the brain exist at all. Evolution is the "programmer" of the computer software.
@IHasChannel Umm, no, no it doesn't. The postulate of evolutionary theory does not support the development of brain or mind, and much less the development of brain and mind on the human level. The conclusion that is being made is presupposition and is frankly an assumption that is being made because of a logical positivist grounding.
I'm sorry but you're demonstrably wrong. Evolutionary theory does support the development of the brain and the mind. Again, your ignorance does not validate you.
@IHasChannel I'm sorry but you are also demonstrably wrong. Evolutionary theory does not support it. Your ignorance does not validate you. See, I can say you are wrong too. It doesn't make you wrong or right. You are more focused on saying I'm wrong, than on thinking of what is right.
It;s not a quote mine. It's a question about a particular part of your statement. What do you mean or refer to when you say "more than meets the eye"?
@IHasChannel learn what post was in reference to what post, "quote mining, read rest of the post" was in reference to "*Copy and paste reply* 'All you have to do is look it up.'" not "more than meets the eye"
Evolution did do it. There is evidence in both anatomy, biology, and the fossil record that the brain evolved slowly from simple celled glands which proved evolutionarily advantageous. Again, simplistic answer, but the details are in science textbooks and libraries all over the world.
I have to conflate mind and brain in some cases. When discussing evolution of the brain you have to discuss what the brain has that is advantageous from an evolutionary perspective. I comprehend they are two separate concepts but in this discussion they must be discussed together.
There have been no documented cases where marijuana has caused harm to another where there wasn't something already wrong.
For example, some may say marijuana will cause depression. This isn't entirely accurate. Most cases, the person was already depressed. Marijuana doesn't cause depression, it can heighten depression.
Other then making mental conditions worse, marijuana is generally positive.
Hi I just subscribed to you about a month ago because I enjoyed watching your WOW pvp videos. I didnt know if i would enjoy these videos but your a really chill guy with interesting opinions so keep it up
haters gonna hate hengest. its like taking a shower you shower to get the filth off you right now you are in the shower getting the filth off you the filth being the haters. there will always be haters but they will dissapear in time

i got my chill pill and got over it. So should some of the haters. Hengest said in his other video that he is still going to do WoW game play. To change the subject. The vid looks a little creepy...how about some light :] Drug use is a very interesting subject to talk about due to various opinions. Very interesting vid, keep it up.
I'm one hundred percent supportive, Will. I've been a subscriber for quite some time, and I have loved every single little change that has occurred on this channel! I'm a philosophy nerd myself, AND a WoW nerd, so this seems to me to be working out perfectly. Thank you for your excellent way of dealing with trolls and stupid people, do what you're doing, and keep on being awesome ;D

Some people try to think dreams are this... extra feeling... but we are really just brainwashing ourselves, as we do on many things.
dolerbom 2 months ago

Comparing something bad to something bad and calling it less bad is like saying we should let a rapist out of jail because he is not a murderer.
dolerbom 2 months ago

I used to smoke weed weekly and used to love its effects which after some stressful days made me feel good.
But I stopped now cos on the eve of my birthday i bought this 'weed' like I was told and decided to make 2 sigs..I came OD.
So I know stick to the casual drinking.
The thing is, I now prefer to drink Vodka and get drunk, as when buying a bottle of vodka..you always know whats in it and the effects it gives you.
weed is always different and you can never be 100% sure whats in it

"really can't be proven scientifically....not a physical process" 10:35
Sure it is. It takes place in the mind. The mind is physical. If it occurs in reality, it can be demonstrated scientifically.
IHasChannel 11 months ago 3
@IHasChannel Baha. Ben. You must understand the distinction between brain and mind.
Neandrathal 11 months ago
@Neandrathal
the mind is physical as is the brain. The "mind" is the word we use to describe what the brain does. Which is physical as well. Electricity is physical, which is what the mind is.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel Haha. No. You can't bring science into this argument. Watch the whole video before you start commenting.
Neandrathal 11 months ago
@Neandrathal
You brought science into this argument. You said that it can't prove it with science, and I beg to differ. If something takes place within the construct of reality then it can be demonstrated scientifically and documented.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel Actually Science can never answer why something is, but only how something is. Science fails when it comes to intentionallity, and will continue to fail at it for quite some time. Eg. I hit a billiard Q to break the racked balls, I can explain scientifically how it happened just fine, but I cant explain why it happened scientifically, and if I try it runs into an infinite regress of intention. Thats why you can never stop asking why.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
I never said science could explain why. In fact my point is that science can explain how. But there isn't always a why to something, there is always a how.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel The mind portion is the why portion, just because you know exactly which synapse fire off for a specific thought doesn't answer the question of mind which you seem to conflate with brain. And we simply don't know if there is or is not an answer to all why and how questions, it's a known unknown, but to flatly say that there isn't always one is a flat out appeal to ignorance and wrong. We simply don't know what future knowledge and information will bring.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel At present, there is no how for the mind, mind is the intentionality found in the how of the brain, this seems to be what you are missing. Mind is why, brain is how. To further clarify, Mind is thought.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel Poggy, we are going to have to have a debate on the physicality of the mind. You are such a plain person! lol.
Neandrathal 11 months ago
@Neandrathal
"You are such a plain person!"
You have no idea. lol
I would love a discussion. Not really a formal debate. Who would moderate though?
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel Wow, you don't understand mind in the slightest. You are saying brain precedes mind. And to your "watch 'How the Mind Works by Steven Pinker'" I say watch The Quantum Activist. The supremacy of mind or brain is a very debated issue, and neither side has a decisive victory for the moment, but I throw my hat in with mind and you apparently throw yours in with brain. So since we will only be talking past each other at this juncture, good bye.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel The logical consequence of your position is is the primacy of brain over mind. Sure you can compare mind and brain to software and hardware respectively, but software and hardware don't function without a user telling the software what it should be doing. This is why I said good bye, you keep placing mind in an untenable position. So once again, good bye.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel That is an unwarranted assumption from the information given and is analogous to a religious position. I recognized this point when I initially said good bye, further I said good bye because I had a strong feeling that it would devolve into "EVOLUTION RULZ ALL, RAPTOR JESUS BLAH BLAH BLAH FLAME ON" and my feelings were right. So, enjoy your logical positivist view and good by for the third time.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel Actually, I understand evolution quite well, and have had to correct many biology majors on the functions present in evolutionary theory. I take evolutionary theory to be about as strong a theory as the Einsteinian model of general relativity, also brain and mind are not clearly explained in theory of the mind because it has logical positivism as an assumed postulate. Logical positivism was disproven in the mid 1930's.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel Theory of mind makes unwarranted conclusions from the evidence given. Those conclusions were made because of a logical positivist presupposition. Now stop trolling me, and good bye for the fourth time.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
Grow up.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel You aren't presenting contradictory evidence. You are presenting evidence for your position that is evidence that I find severely lacking and that doesn't support its conclusions, and you keep pressing the issue after I pointed this out four times now. So, you are either grossly ignoring my position or you are trolling me, and since I stated my position four times already I assume you are trolling.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel I have looked it up, and have found the conclusions to not be supported by the evidence, it is a good explanation for now, but it is severely lacking, lacking enough to say that there is more than meets the eye going on with mind, yet Theory of Mind says its all solved, evolution did it. What part of that don't you get? So, good bye for the fifth time.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
"more than meets the eye going"
meaning?
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel "more than meets the eye going on" read the next word, it is a trite expression meaning that there is more evidence than the evidence presented
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
I know what the phrase means. What I am asking is what are you implying with the statement?
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel I am implying that there is not enough evidence to support the claim that the evolution of the brain can show that mind can be explained away through the physical means of the brain.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel Brain does not explain Mind. Brain=/=Mind. Evolution explains Brain, Brain does not explain mind. Ergo Evolution does not explain Mind.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
The mind is a product of what the brain does. The brain is a product of evolution. Ergo, evolution explains the mind.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel And this is the crux of the disagreement. The brain is a product of what the mind does. A key piece of evidence for this is present in quantum physics, specifically in quantum wave phenomenon. Really really really strange shit happens in consideration of mind. There is more evidence needed to warrant the conclusion of "the mind is a product of what the brain does"
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel The evidence is not sufficient. We don't know that without brain, mind doesn't exist. We don't know if brain is the driver of mind or mind the driver of brain. Actually we aren't declared dead when brain function ceases, it's a bit more complicated than that. The evidence is not sufficient.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel Not necessarily true. There have been people that have woken up from brain death, thats why they keep you on life support for a while, because there is the possibility to wakeup from brain death, and yes it does happen.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
That's unconsciousness, which is a lack of response from the brain. The cells in the brain remain alive so long as they receive oxygen. Brain death is when the cells in the brain actually die. Once they are dead, they cannot be brought back to life.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel Mind is not necessarily a process of the brain. Yes, we detect synapse fire and it is associated with mind, but it is an unwarranted conclusion to say that mind is the firing of those synapse.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel That only shows that a disruption of the pathways causes a disruption in processing power, not what is being processed.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
The only way you can justify that there is something more to the mind than meets the eye (as in a mind could go on without a brain) is to present evidence of that. If you can't, then your position is in fact the one that is untenable, while mine is grounded in observable evidence.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel Actually, there is another way. I could show that there is more evidence than the evidence given, and I present quantum wave phenomenon. There is crazy stuff that goes on that your position doesn't consider relevant, but could quite possibly be extremely relevant.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
Until it is demonstrated, the current evidence siggest and is sufficient to accept that the mind is a product of the brain. Until such time, you're talking out your ass. Goodnight.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel And in antiquity the current evidence suggested that the sky was blue because the firmament healed up an ocean. Until such time you realize your position is that of a strong logical positiveist and has an inherent prejudices against any explanations of value or why answers you are just talking out of your ass, and I recognized this the first time I said good bye, and thats why I said it then, so for the fifth time good bye.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
Fail.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel The sky example was an example of a false belief, I could have gone with a geocentric universe, would that have been better? And yes I do understand the evidence, but the evidence does not warrant the conclusion, because the conclusion was made because of a postulate of logical positivism. You are the one that fails because you are blindly accepting another's conclusion without complete examination of the evidence presented.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel No, its not. There has been plenty of peer review to go both ways on this topic. There are plenty of scientists who agree on my side and plenty on your side, enough so to create an impasse of opinion. You are being a bigoted child that is trolling hard.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
I've already agreed with you that how it happens is not understood. I'm with you there. How does consciousness arise? I have no clue and yes that is debated among scientists today. Fine. I'm with you. But they all agree that consciousness requires a brain.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel Mind is Consciousness, Mind is Thought, Brain is simply where it occurs, and no they don't all agree that it requires a brain, some do some don't.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou Let's ignore other scientists even the ones I can cite, for the sake of this question for a moment.
Have you ever seen an intelligence/mind, exist without a brain construct? (Artificial intelligence also requires a brain, albeit not a biological one). No, there is no evidence to ever suggest that a mind can exist without a brain. Deductive reasoning would then tell you that a brain is required for thinking.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel No, I want you to cite your scientists. And that is inductive logic, not deductive, you are making a conclusion based on observed occurrences. That is inductive logic not deductive.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
Yes inductive. My mistake. (kinda gettin tired)
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
And apparently you don't even comprehend your own position. Your position is based on absolute certainty. As to claim if I can't prove with absolute certainty, there must be more then meets the eye. That's basically no different than people who say "You can't prove god doesn't exist". It's nonsense and you're getting no where.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel No, I comprehend quite well. The conclusion is a conclusion that has extremely deep running implications, and because of the depth of the implications the bar for the level of evidence required to make that conclusion is set quite high, not to the level of certainty, but much further than the level of evidence that is thus far given. I do not find the level of evidence sufficient, nether does many scientists.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
Nonsense. Cite them. Even so it wouldnt matter. It's been peer reviewed. Unless these scientists have their ideas peer reviewed then they are just "some guys" with letters behind their name making unjustified claims.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel Did you seriously just say that? "Nonsense. Cite them. Even so it wouldnt matter. It's been peer reviewed." So peer reviewed science has never been wrong? No the lipid hypothesis is completely correct, No steady state universe is completely correct, No the sound barrier is not breakable. Seriously? Now who is the ignorant one that won't listen to evidence.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
That's not what I said and you know it.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel No, I didn't quote you out of context, and what makes you think I have a different definition of peer review than you. Just look up most of the recent work of Amit Goswami, this is the kind of things he is proposing. He is a well respected quantum physicist that wrote many of the books for quantum physics that are being used in universities today. My position is not some crackpot position, and is a well established position in many disciplines of academia.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
(continued)
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
You have to take each claim on its own merit and investigate each claim. A perfect example of that is Isaac Newton. Isaac newton had great ideas with physics, and was a mathematical genius of his day. He also believed in alchemy. Should we give alchemy credibility because Isaac Newton says so?
IHasChannel 11 months ago
"No, I comprehend quite well."
You consistently demonstrate that you don't. If you did you wouldn't be spouting the nonsense you are consistently.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
Anyway the point here is that evolutionary biology does demonstrate the evolutionary cause of the brain and it does demonstrate how and why certain functions of the brain exist at all. Evolution is the "programmer" of the computer software.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel Umm, no, no it doesn't. The postulate of evolutionary theory does not support the development of brain or mind, and much less the development of brain and mind on the human level. The conclusion that is being made is presupposition and is frankly an assumption that is being made because of a logical positivist grounding.
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
I'm sorry but you're demonstrably wrong. Evolutionary theory does support the development of the brain and the mind. Again, your ignorance does not validate you.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel I'm sorry but you are also demonstrably wrong. Evolutionary theory does not support it. Your ignorance does not validate you. See, I can say you are wrong too. It doesn't make you wrong or right. You are more focused on saying I'm wrong, than on thinking of what is right.

LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
Evolution did do it. There is evidence in both anatomy, biology, and the fossil record that the brain evolved slowly from simple celled glands which proved evolutionarily advantageous. Again, simplistic answer, but the details are in science textbooks and libraries all over the world.
IHasChannel 11 months ago
@IHasChannel Stop conflating Mind and Brain!
LuLuLeLoupGarou 11 months ago
@LuLuLeLoupGarou
