  • Fantastic. Amazing that you can remember it all without the music infront of you.. how do you do that??

  • Sensational! Maybe a little quick (In the dark) but, on the piano, you are the boss and you certainly know what you are doing! Stay at it! alkuhn1

  • This is enchanting. Thank you!

  • Good recording, good piano sound, and beautiful music. It is a pity that there wasn't a small gap of silence before music begin: it starts to soon: one has the impression of entering late to a piano recital, when the artist already has begun... Anyway, very good & thanks!

  • Thanks for the kind comments. This was just an informal rehearsal session with a couple friends (video taping was an afterthought) and the video is missing the first 20-30 seconds of the piece. Sorry about that! One day (soon) I'll tape it properly.

  • thank you, sounds great!

  • Bryan sei bravissimo!

  • BRAVO. very BRAVO.

    you have el duende.

  • You got it.

  • Thanks, Bryan, for sharing your talent with us while at the same time sharing Bix with us. I watch this video all the time. Bix Lives!!! (It was so nice seeing you in Racine!)

  • wow! fantastic! i gotta switch to PIANO!

(my guitar ver of this just doesn't do it!) - ddanze

  • Just beautiful - thanks

  • Fantastic. Your interpretation is original and worthy. You play with your soul. Most guys just copy Bix. Bix would have never wanted that.

Only suggestion: Don't be afraid to play with the tempo and dynamics -sort of like Glenn Gould. If the meter is too consistent between themes it looses the spontaneity. Bix Lives!

  • Thanks for this! Can use melodic, blues ideas

in my little guitar attempts at the great Bix.

Love "Flashes" near the middle of you set! ddanze (on youtube)

Btw, will soon post my guitar arrangement of

    Flashes...

  • Haha nice Brian! I knew this guy when we were just kids, used to watch Monty Python with him. Good guy, glad to see how good he is doing on the piano.

  • These are great!! Its a shame that these are not better known - - they'd make wonderful concert pieces like the Gershwin preludes have become. Marvelous!

  • Very nice indeed... Many thanks for posting this!

Newer CD recordings of Bix Beidebecke's compositions are on the Piano Deco performed by Mike Polad. There you can find also the compositions by Eastwood Lane, one of the favorite composers of Bix himself. I can highly recommend the three Piano Deco CDs.

  • Boy, I REALLY enjoyed that little concert of Bix tunes. Terrific, wonderful, respectful and sensitive renditions. I've never heard those pieces played so wonderfully. It could never be too long.

  • Great - I've been looking for years to find other piano pieces by beiderbecke - although lots of sources mention that they existed, I've never ben able to find any of them (even what they're called - definitely no recordings). Out of interest, are these published anywhere?

  • Thanks! The pieces were all first published in the early 1930s by Robbins. More recently, they were included in a 1979 folio called "100 Authentic Rags" edited by Dave Jasen (unfortunately now out of print). Copies of both occasionally turn up for sale online (try the auction sites).

  • Excellent thanks - I'll keep a look out!

  • Nice playing by the way.

  • Thank you for playing this. I did not know the other three pieces, besides In a Mist.

  • Great !!!

I hope you'll add covers of "In a mist" and "Davenport blues" (I had a "reduction" for piano of this tune by Bill Challis).

  • Well done Bryan! Best wishes,

Sean Moyses (that banjo player guy)

  • Bix's piano suites are some of the most beautiful music ever written! I wish this video would've included In A Mist. Great job Bryan!!

  • Thanks for the kind words! Bix's pieces are simply incredible. I've got "In A Mist" in my fingers too--as soon as I can, I'll try to make and upload a video of that one.

  • Great stuff Bryan.

  • Wonderful! Great to be able to hear it done live.

  • I love it! Thanks for posting on YouTube.

  • Beautiful! He has a wonderful feel for the Beiderbecke suite!
