  • YEAH BABY ZERO DISLIKES!! -sincerley pretty much the only teen who actually appreciates this era:)

  • yes it was a very nice tone

  • LOVE the tone on that guitar

  • Only need one word for this one EXCELLENT!

  • My vote is for the Shirelles' version.

  • GREAT version!

  • Thank you MLM for sending this to me and thank you PJ for posting this jewel of all jewels...smile!! The very best version!!! I've listened to it 2 x's and then just lifted it. LOL phyllis x

  • I love this version PJ but am I wrong in thinking this is a 78 rpm? Phyllis xo

  • is this the original?

  • @alexgalvarez

I thought the Shirelles did it first (I grew up in that era), but maybe I am mistaken.

  • @chgosatrap This is the original, written by a member of the group, Lowman Pauling.

  • @mrstep2me

Thanks for the info, Step :-)

  • Ahhh..memories of those good ole' 45's!!!

  • Unless my mind is all messed up, this is the original by the originals and NOT that shitty, re-recorded version found everywhere else that had me wondering why I used to dig this sound so much!

    Fonkie, you's a mothafuccka! I ain' line!

  • Lowman Pauling was my grandfather, and I want to thank you Phunkyjunction, for helping to keep his music alive!!

  • @Tijones01 God bless your Grandfather, sir. The Royales are (I purposefully don't say 'were') The Best - and not for nothing did James Brown rave about them and Steve Cropper rave about him. Great guitarist, great songwriter and - with the fabulous pipes of Johnny Tanner - the Royales remain my favourite r'n'b group of all times. Big thumbs up to him and his band mates! Joyous stufff!

  • Thanks so much phunkyjunction! I literally haven't heard this version (the best of many) since Rick Minipace played in it on Philadelphia radio (WIBG) back in 1972!

  • @phunkyjunction by 10,000 golden miles!

  • this version, the shirelles and the temprees truly the best!! mommas and the poppas? i dont think so sorry

  • Ilove the Shirelles and the Mamas and the Papas Version of this great Doowop classic!! But am sorry The "5" ROYALES.........Please Take A Bow!!?

  • great song, really tight guitar, mamas and the papa's never had this much soul or attitude

  • @Hapworth1924 That's Lowman Pauling on guitar. Great indeed!

  • wow

  • Five Royales-Dedicated To The One I Love-King-78-5098-1958

  • Thanks for posting so many songs by these guys!

  • the Shirells were before tha mamas and Papas, and much better

mamas and poppas were bland in m y opinion

  • Alright, this has to be my favourite shit of 50s. Goodbye Louie Louie, hello My baby!

  • These are the sounds of my pre-school childhood. Such good innocent memories!

  • ONE OF THE BEST VOCAL BANDS EVER!

  • I love this version and especially the group! My next vote for this song would be the Lettermen's version. Brings tears to my eyes.

  • This my friends, is the definitive version. The Shirelles version is OK, and the Mamas and Papas version is awful.

Can you believe this was 1957? These guys were incredibly ahead of their time!

  • The guitar player sounds like a disciple of Johnny "Guitar" Watson....very very cool!!

  • How Many years prior to the Shirelles' version

of "Dedicated to the One I Love" ,was this version

released? The Shirelles version has a smoother

sound, and at the same time this version is historically interesting.

  • The Shirelles version is absolutely beautiful, but this one is just crazy out there shit, I love it. Smooth is good, but I'm digging the raw.

  • Better than the Mamas and Papas...

  • @yongary01 i Actually liked the Mamas & the Papas'c cover better. The Shirelles, however, have the best one yet In my humble opinion. (:
