Thank you MLM for sending this to me and thank you PJ for posting this jewel of all jewels...smile!! The very best version!!! I've listened to it 2 x's and then just lifted it. LOL phyllis x
Unless my mind is all messed up, this is the original by the originals and NOT that shitty, re-recorded version found everywhere else that had me wondering why I used to dig this sound so much!
@Tijones01 God bless your Grandfather, sir. The Royales are (I purposefully don't say 'were') The Best - and not for nothing did James Brown rave about them and Steve Cropper rave about him. Great guitarist, great songwriter and - with the fabulous pipes of Johnny Tanner - the Royales remain my favourite r'n'b group of all times. Big thumbs up to him and his band mates! Joyous stufff!
Thanks so much phunkyjunction! I literally haven't heard this version (the best of many) since Rick Minipace played in it on Philadelphia radio (WIBG) back in 1972!
YEAH BABY ZERO DISLIKES!! -sincerley pretty much the only teen who actually appreciates this era:)

@alexgalvarez
I thought the Shirelles did it first (I grew up in that era), but maybe I am mistaken.

@chgosatrap This is the original, written by a member of the group, Lowman Pauling.

ONE OF THE BEST VOCAL BANDS EVER!

I love this version and especially the group! My next vote for this song would be the Lettermen's version. Brings tears to my eyes.

This my friends, is the definitive version. The Shirelles version is OK, and the Mamas and Papas version is awful.
Can you believe this was 1957? These guys were incredibly ahead of their time!

The guitar player sounds like a disciple of Johnny "Guitar" Watson....very very cool!!

How Many years prior to the Shirelles' version
of "Dedicated to the One I Love" ,was this version
released? The Shirelles version has a smoother
sound, and at the same time this version is historically interesting.
leslieS1949 2 years ago
The Shirelles version is absolutely beautiful, but this one is just crazy out there shit, I love it. Smooth is good, but I'm digging the raw.

Better than the Mamas and Papas...

@yongary01 i Actually liked the Mamas & the Papas'c cover better. The Shirelles, however, have the best one yet In my humble opinion. (:
