He definitely loves Radiohead -- that I know for sure from a mutual friend who went with him to see a Radiohead show and they were both very excited to see them. And Tom Waits--yes he thinks Tom is a genius too--including him in his medley of great American Music that he performed at one his Largo shows. So he does thik quite highly of both artists. I've also seen hic cover "Creep" in his normal voice, once with Grant-Lee Phillips and once on his own.
dave, do you have a clip of the whole song? I have an mp3 of this somewhere and if I remember correctly there was some fancy piano playing that's missing from this (shorter?) version. it'd be nice to see the whole thing if it's out there.
I really can't imagine that Jon Brion isn't a fan of both artists. It has to be said, though, "Creep" is Radiohead's most maudlin song and the stand up piano waltz is Tom Waits's stock in trade. What makes it funny is that it kind of works.

funny and ironic how jonny greenwood of radiohead is scoring paul thomas anderson's new movie, "there will be blood". jon brion has scored all of anderson's movies prior to. i wonder if he'll imitate jon brion's music and make fun of it. hehe
Thanks for the post. I was at this concert. I think he was waiting for some stage hands to plug some things in, so he whipped 'creep' out as an interlude.

he's not "making fun of" anyone I don't think. I'm sure he likes both artists. He's just having fun w/ it, in a non-mean spirited way.

WTF! I love Jon Brion but why is he making fun of Thom Yorke that way. Man I just lost a ton of respect for Jon Brion.
ALASODIN 4 years ago
hahaha no no man... it's TOM WAITS he's making fun of, not Thom Yorke.
