  • that awkward moment when you forget how to play ornithology

  • a metronome is a device that holds the note... wait, what???

  • Quite obviously, my favorite part was "ai-yai-yai-yai-yai-yai-yai-yai!"

  • press 4 then 8

    'and you go harder'

  • Press 3, he is stroking his nipple lol

  • i'm better than you and i'm a high school student!

  • Its hilarious if you try to press random numbers on the keyboard while the video is playing, especially with these gay expert village videos.

  • He wasn't that bad, guys.

  • and fail village strikes again

  • beginners, don't listen to this

  • this is terrible

  • Vibrato is used in both classical, jazz, and rock. Both. 3 things. Wat.

  • Search "Dr Timothy McAllister Vibrato Lesson" for a much better lesson. Kaplan can suck my dick...never mind. Kaplan doesn't even get that honor. This guy is the biggest clown out there. I only watch his videos for entertainment/comedic relief purposes. He is such a fool.

  • i really havent found no one else trying to explain this. so stop complaining if ur not making videos to explain it urself.

  • @1CHENTE Are you serious? You just have to search for it and you get hundreds of results. Never listen to this clown. His clarinet videos are just as bad. If you really want a good video, watch McAllister's video. It's hard to find a better teacher and performer.

  • push 6 he is FINGERING HIMSELF!

  • keep pushing four and he MASTURBATING

  • wow he is so stupid you dont explain music like that to just feel it

  • Learn how to use a vibrato without making the pitch disgustingly flat, then make a video.

  • 2 minutes of non stop jabbering, 5 seconds of blowing, 30 seconds of more talk and finally 10 seconds of novice playing

  • eyi eyi eyi eyie yi!!

  • Why is it so common among Jews to always need to pretend to be experts on things? They just declare that they are an expert and therefore they are. Yeah right...

This guy's saxophone sounds like a mosquito. Please, no one play vibrato like this! He can't even play Ornithology (the example he attempted to use).

  • ... both classical, jazz and rock....

    This is incorrect grammar.

  • Why would beginners need to learn Vibrato?

  • 1:14

  • you talk to much :(

  • 2:18 oh yes I CAN see how it would become very sickening very quick[ly], particularly if everyones sound sucked as hard as yours.

  • just talk normal. you dont have to sound inquisitive. You speack to us like we are idiots. Talking down on your audience is bad. you sound terrible

  • just talk normal. you dont have to sound inquisitive. You speack to us like we are idiots. Talking down on your audience is bad.

  • the scientific way to play vibrato 1:13

  • is this guy retarded?

    uhhh... ummmm. uhhh... ummmmmmm. errr.

  • is this guy retarded?

  • This is lame.

  • Oh gosh... please don't listen to this guy kids

  • I play tenor sax and I always wondered how my jazz teacher made the jazz so exciting...vibrato.....ayayayaya

  • Didn't really learn anything, just was told what it is, i already know what it is.

  • All people who teach an instrument using expertvillage sucks.

    Prove me wrong.

  • @lbjkidusa2 I looked this guy up...on one website he says that he is a "nationally known artist and has 7 cd's available for purchase" I guess that means he doesnt suck. Oh wait, yea, he does.

  • please kill yourself. fuck expert village. this is embarrassing to music education.

  • 1:15

It would sound like "ay ay ay ay ay ay ay"

    :]

    lol

  • Cringe-worthy.

  • wow you are terrible and as soon as i get out of music school, i will be taking your place

  • "it's used in both classical, jazz, and rock"

    haaaaa

  • I want to know how to do it, not what it is. If I didn't know what it was i wouldn't be searching it dumbass.

  • grow some hair biotch

  • This guy's voice pisses me off for some reason.

  • oh and by the way. i went to your page and im assuming your the director for that band. if your teaching them thru this video, then i TOTALLY understand why they all sound so horrible. maybe go retake lessons on how to teach music. mayb u wont bash on players who are better than your own, cause you cant teach anybody higher than 6th grade. im sorry your hearing is so messed up from listening to pre-mature musicians that you can no longer tell what sounds good and what doesnt.

  • @maestrojunie

dude what are u EVEN talking about. what is he blaming the stand for? do you even re-read what the hell u type out? hes making a joke. any newb musician can tell there is SUPPOSED be be a break there... so he adjusted it and made a joke you retard. and how is he full of himself when hes obviously better than this guy trying to teach. yea good job teaching other people when your squeaking and your tone sucks so bad you sound flat half the time and sharp the other...

  • dude, i play jazz, vibrato is different from person to person, you can use both fast or slow vibrato.........and your vibrato sounded the same .............I play better than you, you dont believe me watch MY solo vid

  • Yup, in jazz you can do pretty much whatever you want. The goal is just to sound good. But anyways, some teachers teach to have a specific speed or some ballpark figure for how fast your vibrato should be in jazz.

  • @stealthswimmer i agree, i hate when people try to say OH YOU CANT DO THIS IN JAZZ or YOU HAVE TO DO THIS IN JAZZ my teacher told me i CANT close my eyes when i play im like well shit, thanks for ruining my emotion in it you know, i love jazz for the reason that you can do basically anything when you solo its beautiful.

  • yeah, i totally agree.

However, the guy in the vid wasn't saying "you have to do this in jazz." He was just saying that way back in the day, most jazz musicians used to play with that vibrato and it's changed a bit since then. Fewer people play with a vibrato that fast unless it's just for effect in a short part of the music or if they're playing Dixieland style jazz. He wasn't making prescriptions, just describing.

    :-)

  • good point lol my bad haha

  • Not from what I see......

    yeah blame the stand...

    little full of yourself huh?

can anyone fit in the room with you seeing your head is so big?

  • are you serious, anyone that can take a joke could see i was kidding about the stand, i put it there cause i had a pause and i adjusted the stand and put it in the marker for humor and no, im not EVEN conceded, this guy isnt even good he is teaching wrong technique and his tone isnt even good, i STUDY music, you probably dont so i understand why your pissed at me because i called him out.

  • please delete this video.. you're teaching everything wrong.. you sound bad.. you are not a true musician...

  • you're a dipshit

  • this guy is flippen annoying..

  • He's awesome but I'm still not able to apply that special vibrato he produces

I tried to say WAWAWAW WIWIWIWI WOWOWWOW WEWWEWEW WOOWOOOWOOW and even WAAAW WAAAW WAAAAAW WAAAAW for 3 hours a day for 5 weeks and my jaws started too ache so much that my dentist had to pull out both my wisdom teeth and told me I should not attempt to play the wide vibrato for at least 4 weeks but I admit I have praticed secretly the tight vibrato just saying vivivivivivi like whispering and my jaw didnt lockup.

  • Im sorry if i sound rude but the guy sounds like he does not know what he is talking bout. also he explained vibrato in a very vague way.

  • thats an alto sax right?!

  • yeah it is

  • yes

  • yea i think so

  • AND THERE YOU GO! XD

  • more like inexpert village

  • lol

  • fuck this crome dome fag

  • You people are stupid. He is trying to help.

  • @cheese319 yeah TRYING to help. he sucks his tone and everything is shit. and he's bending too much.

  • He doesn't know how to vibrato, or how to SAY vibrato. "vie-brato"? Hahaha.

  • at 1:15 hes a crazy african attacking in war

  • LOL WTF

  • haha lmao

  • Poor bastard jajaj

  • yeah this guys is terrible. He doesn't even tell you how to use vibrato on the sax. His classical vibrato is also terrible. At 2:39 he starts playing "Ornithology," a Charlie Parker composition whose chord changes are based on the Gershwin tune "I Got Rhythm." However, he messes up the melody around 2:45. He should take these videos off.

  • what a fucking joke, it looks like the guy is drunk and second, it looks like he is just making uo all the words as he goes

  • he is making it up as he goes

  • what a drunk prick faggot

  • this guy is an embarasment to sax players.i play it and i play way better vibrato than him and no one taught me

  • everyone on expert village sucks.

  • LOL this is funny!

  • oh my god this guy is so stupid and is a shocking saxophone player. seriously, just say wah-wah-wah-wah-wah while the mouthpiece is in your mouth.

  • Omg this is so horrible, why is this on here. So much wrong with this, an absolute insult to real sax players

  • Comment removed

  • en español por favor q alguien lo aga

  • Ugh...I still can't do it! :)....somebody help me!!

  • In BOTH classical, jazz AND ROCK!

Where did they find this guy?!

  • of the street with a sign saying give me money to buy some swish and get wasted.

  • WOWOWOW.

    That's not vibrato,

its like wah-wah, because its so heavy.

All of this dumb video isn't vibrato,

    its freaking Wah-Wah.

    Wow, pls teach me vibrato.

  • What kind of fucking village is this? They aren't experts in a lot of areas, especially something as fundamental as vibrato...

  • ive looked at alot of clips but thid man is annoying!!!!!

  • heh? I am confused! It doesn't look like you are moving your jaw at all! What do you mean by tighter? Like, more or less pronounced? Nor do I have enough Idea what you mean by 'wide' because while it does sound sickening, it doesnt sound like the vibrato is more far apart. Someone explain this to me please!

  • you need to move the jaw/mouth it's hard for me to explain because I did it the first without anyone explaining it .

  • haha this video is really misleading. The lower register requires more jaw movement because the pitch has a lower frequency. the higher you get, the less jaw movement is required, which makes a tighter and usually faster vibrato.

this is a really really bad representation

  • this was the first video that was a little bit useful

  • lol i know. expert village sucks.

  • i'm learning to play sax, and appreciete and give thanks for this video.

  • You are a joke

  • wow... this guy is kinda... terrible...

  • I love this guy. He is really good and has his own style:P

  • Wow! You are unbelievable!

  • "you would set a metronome which is a device that holds the note"

hmm he always makes me feel smarter

  • why do his examples sound so ugly? he sounded alittle better when he played the lick at the end though. doesn't sound like an alto at all.

  • "we're like actors as, as musicians"

"vibrato is used in BOTH classical, jazz and rock"

    -Mr oblivious

dude, this guy needs to learn how to speak

  • You forgot "a metronome is a device that-that holds the note...I mean keeps time"

  • The tone isn't so hot probably because he's not using a good mic.

  • go to india,there you'll succed

  • Thanks man, helped me alot.

  • Stop hating. This guy is not nearly the best player I have seen, but he deserves some credit. I think this video can be helpful for the beginner. It explanes what a vibrato is, and teaches you how you can do it.

    Keep it up!

  • dude, you sound like one of those arabian instruments, practice on your tone.

  • that hurts my ears...

  • aiaiaiaiaiaiaiaia

  • "Vibrato is used in both classical, jazz and rock!"

    Lmao

  • 2:48

    LOLOLOL

"And there you have it..vibrato" *dumbass smile*

  • Holy jeezuz..."and now here's how to fuck up a well known jazz standard"...Smile kid's...and remember...pinkies out!

  • Using the jaw that much usually sounds a lot worse than using your neck and "stomach"

  • he plays like a jew

  • what kind of race are you?

  • It's a religion not a race...

  • -_- yeah your right.

  • crap video

  • It is...uh, uh..an effect, um, on the, uh um uhh the saxophone!

  • haha good vid, but i couldnt help crakcin up wen i played ayayayayaya over and over again

  • Nice man though.

  • Get out of town with that!

  • Have you ever listened to anyone else play the saxophone before?

  • this guys suck..!!

no life..get out of here man!

i dont even understand while your speaking..

  • lmaoo this guy really does suck though.

  • I think his ignorance has just ruined my day.

  • mine too.. my week pretty much

  • Ornithology! (nice try)

  • This guy's funny, is he under the influence of something?

  • - _- u dontknow how to play do u lol.

  • Nice sax playing but is a shitty music teacher

  • it's Vee-brato, isn't it?

anyways, he didnt even teach techniques or anything, he just talked about what classical and jazz vibrato sounded like. It's not an instruction when you don't TEACH anything

  • Just a suggestion, it's not vye-brato, it's vibb-rato (with a short "i" sound at the beginning of the word, in true Italian fashion). It would help if you showed us how to actually produce the vibrato. Do you use the diaphragm? Does the lower jaw go up and down? Do you say the word "ha" ha ha ha like on a flute?

  • Wow...as previously stated, do NOT listen to this guy about vibrato. His classical vibrato is awful, his 'wide vibrato' is poorly demonstrated, and jazz vibrato is only used during a long tone, more towards the end of a long tone, and is never used on any note shorter than a half note. What scares me is that beginners will actually listen to his advice and develop bad habits in tone production and vibrato...possibly in intonation and musicality too.

  • As an afterthought...you shouldn't even think about vibrato until after you have developed a strong tone....or teach it. That guy in the expert vid really sucks.

  • Yes I agree 100%. Thanks for adding that!

  • this guy's tone is horrible

  • This guy is an idiot. Do not listen to anything he says. He is totally wrong on everything. I hope he's not a teacher.

  • I Swear ive seen this guy before..... ohh yeah faces of meth

  • I think he rolls his R's at 2:46. (They do this all the time in Scotland).

  • that guy scares me...0.o i didnt learn any thing he was just showing off

  • I hate how he says Vibrato.

  • WHAT IN THEEEEEE WORLD..........ok i dont know what you all thought be his tone sounded terrible to me. and he really didnt tell me anything about how to do anything. Guess thats what happens when its free.

  • lol yah the comments are funny

  • he tells you how to play vibrato if you gusy payed enough attention...

  • haha you sax players crack my ass up! i love reading the comments you all make

  • awesome im an alto sax player to and learning vibrato my teacher told me to practice bending notes and then move on to vibrato so i am now on vibrato but still cant get the hang of it how long does it take to play it as well as you do?

  • thanks man! this really helped!!!

  • This guy is an awesome player, maybe takes a while to make a point but if you watch him a couple of times and get into his rhythm he's really interesting.

Also don't forget if he's going slow it's so it sinks in to those thick skulls of yours. If the teacher talks too fast you miss the point 9 times out of 10. Trust me I learn a lot of different things and I'd rather have a teacher explain slower than faster.

    Peace

  • He looks funny. But he knows a more than that other woman.

  • who the clarinetist? then yes, she explains nothing

  • Agree Jiim. I I I I love him verrry much.

  • wow.... i really needed all taht history of vibrato in that whole thing

  • OMFG just show us with like a fuckin computer semulation or something

  • i think he needs to explain wide vibrato a bit more
