  • The scrath sounds so much like a short little hip hop snare, fucking gravy. This guy is a legend.

  • fucking crazy

  • this is my all time fav song

  • Crazy good version. Does it get any better than this?

  • I heard Stings band did a cover of this.

  • Great!

  • Unbelievable!

  • This is honestly the best cover of any song ive ever heard!!

  • jon youre incredible man. i discovered you from the one and only tommy lee from motley crue posting your video of passion flower. you should really think about a possible tour to canada and make sure you hit toronto id love to see this live. keep up the great work dude.

  • I was told by someone in a shop where I live to research you and tell them what I thought. My verdict... AMAZING! You have so much talent! I felt like I was in a trance as i couldn't take my eyes off the screen.... 10/10 :)

  • this is proof that not only women can multitask

  • Jon, had no idea you were this good. Until now, will have to share this on Facebook. Have left a video response too. Awesome!

  • Pure talent! Amazing!

  • Fantastic arrangement!

  • This is just fantastic! Can't believe I didn't know him till now

  • Love it!!

  • Holy Flock. You're a mad man. Great take on this classic.

  • Hey I was just wondering if you were ever going to come to Australia? Me and a few of my friends are dying to see you.

  • Long live the Internet!

If it weren't for it, I'd never have heard many beautiful things, this cover being one of them.

  • your songs are beautiful jon... seriously... the most talented musician i have ever seen... keep making music...

  • I'd love to see what you do with some other covers, this has to be the most original take on a popular song i've ever seen.

  • the tone's you get out of that guitar are bloody amazing mate, blew me away, great rendition of a great song

  • @jongomm Hi, I'm amazed, and I'm curious : were you by any chance influenced by Andy McKee, or Bob Brozman (the only two I know that you remind me) ? Being voice, percussion, bass and guitar all together, alone, that's what I call the sense of detail !

  • @anaamee you should check out Michael Hedges, Preston Reed, and Kaki King's Chaos in the Bone castle then ;)

  • @Made4EvilUsed4Good Thx, I'll try that when I have time. Bye man

  • @Made4EvilUsed4Good (or woman)

  • @anaamee lol..you had it right the first time ;)

  • You, sir, are amazing.

  • Guitar tab? How is anyone but you going to be able to play it, Jon!? Fucking amazing.

  • Andy mckee is smashing his guitar watching this guy play.

  • well ..that is beyond amazing and i have just lobbed my guitar down the garden..cheers!

  • I have seen you live 3 or 4 times and always great, you create a real atmosphere. You are approachable and friendly and an all round nice guy, I'm glad to hear you are being noticed worldwide! All the best!

  • You might be classically trained but I have NEVER known one could be trained to utterly ravage a guitar quite as beautifully as you...

  • I recently stumbled upon your music and I am so blown away by it all. Please go on one of the talent shows and show the world that yes, there is true talent left in the world. Your playing is just wonderful.

  • @jgjonola If this guy didn't win I would lose faith in humanity

  • @jgjonola John is a musician way above the detritis of so called talent shows. This is his platform, and such is showbiz, Message In A Bottle is a gifted recreation of a great classic. We are all the better for hearing it. If the telly programmes want to show Jon off it has to be to show his creativity.

  • @jgjonola He wrote a very long paragraph on his Facebook about why he would never do that.

  • @jgjonola thats exactly what hes trying not to do

  • @jgjonola I hope he doesn't fall into the desperate attempts for fame on shows like Britain's got talent, he already is a world recognised talent. Just not to main stream addicts and scene kids

  • @9juheje8a Haha! They actually called his manager and she told them to F__ off!

  • @9juheje8a He's not that kinda guy. At least he said so.. and i hope his opinion never changes unless the mainstreambusiness changes the way it does its business.

  • Did you tape a part of your guitar strap to the face/side of your guitar there?

  • @Joesatriani1200rulez HAHA! you just got absolutely owned! You really need to consider the possibility of music as an art form and stop listening to the charts and being told to like autotuned untalented fashion statements.

  • hey jon just seen you on the news you were excellent good luck to you

  • I am amazed, so much so that I am going to link you everywhere I have an online account. Love, just love your music Jon :)

Your rendition is brilliant and just as entertaining and delightful as Stings original.

  • Awesome but i still prefer the Machinehead version!

  • Andy Mckee, take some notes.

  • @jongomm your comebacks are hilarious, especially the gay one on passionflower

  • Gorgeous - loved it :)

  • I don't consider this as a cover. Its a whole different song only with same lyrics. Magnificent work Jon!

  • I like your music. How influenced are you by Michael Hedges? He played with a similar style, He is sorely missed. He, like you, was classicaly trained, Peabody conservatory. Keep up the great work.

  • @ccjazzmusic Quote Wikipedia: "The tattoo on his arm is from the cover of the Michael Hedges album Oracle" Says it all!

  • It's very pretty but it's not message in a bottle. Dunno why he didn't write his own set of lyrics for this and have it completely as his own song. Eric mongrain was doing this years ago.

  • wow this is pure guitar Genius real tallent.

  • Brilliant!

  • Wow, worst looking guitar top since Willie Nelsons! Amazing arrangements man, Britain's got talent. A tabla, The Stick & sitar all in one!

  • awesome

  • "tabs available" haha, yeeaah, like other people can learn to play like this? suuuureeee

  • Wonderful cover. Love where you take the song.

  • hey jon, im really curious, at what point did you decide to dedicate yourself to this style? because its ... unique isn't really the word for it, more " refined beyond rationality " in respect to musicianship. im just really loving all of your stuff is all. you're the ryan reasoner of guitar to me.

  • sexing up the guitar and the song.

  • This is top shelf!!!

  • This is so awesome! How do you get the drumming on the guitar so clear and deep when live? Always wanted to know this! :)

  • @gordnokc If stewart copeland just played the backbeat, if he wasn't "busy" all the time, adding subtle dynamic textures to the songs, if andy summers wasn't a wiz with guitar fx, if sting wasn't an extremely technically accomplished musician applying his skills to the performance of his songs, the police would have sounded like megabiebershit. Yes they're a bunch of showoffs who also happen to be great musicians. It's a version, not Sting's or yours. If he played it straight you'd cry "boring!"

  • 6 people are not only deaf but also blind..

  • 6 people are deaf

  • you bring new meaning to one man band and it being my fav song you are number one one on you tube

  • You are great. I hope you know this.

  • Incredible...is there some kind of midi pickup on your low string?

  • do you sand down the front of your guitars for the sounds you want or is it just from time?

  • His work is outstanding ... congratulations. Brazil

  • That Guitar has seen some love, awesome sound and playing!

  • AWESOME

  • sounds like radiohead.. i dont like this cover its way to hipster for me...

  • i'm a new fan! from Brazil

  • Great stuff

  • i like how you wear your strap its quite clever

  • @joesatriani1200rulez No, I didn't murder the song, I might have gently assaulted it but it can handle itself. It's more interesting to take it somewhere new and play it how I can best express it as a person and as a musician. If you want a "correct" rendition, there's a thousand people who can give you one, including a dude named Sting, you might have heard of him.

  • @jongomm I love when people can make things thier own and totally agree if you want the original go listen to the CD. I've only been playing for a year but that is one thing that I am striving to do is be a musician not a guitarist. It's musicians like you that inspire me. Thank you.

  • @jongomm This is Ace

  • @jongomm just cock slapped joesatriani1200rulez with his metaphoric penis.

  • @jongomm why reply to the arseholes of youtube?! they don't deserve your words! You sir are an inspiration to every known guitarist. What i'd do to play like you! it's mesmerising!

  • @jtommo666 I don't even play guitar (well), and he's an inspiration to me.

  • @Asdayasman You don't have to play well, man. Just play, and your message will get through sometime. Inspiration is inspiration. I wish you luck.

  • @jongomm Sting would approve.... murder it some more please.... :)

  • @jongomm While I will say that this is miles different than the original version I like it. That being said, I can certainly understand how some purists will think that you murdered. Very little of the same structure and signature riff were kept, until the end...which was bad ass, so you have to understand how the hardcore fans hate this. Hell, look at the reaction to Tori Amos' cover of Raining Blood and consider yourself lucky. At least you didn't piss of Slayer fans.

  • @jongomm This is hardly a gentle assault! It is a creative re-interpretation of pure genius. I came to this clip to hear one of my favourite songs of all times and just love what you have done with it. It is after all a song of haunting loneliness...your mad skills on the guitar capture that essence perfectly!

  • @joesatriani1200rulez what about this song don't you like exactly? the man's a freaking genius, if anything he made a classic even better, def not murdered it you spanner

  • Sting don't have shit on this!! Amazing!

  • bravo, I have been a professional musician for over 40 years and playing a song is a lot more than cool techniques. Put a pair of cymbols between his knees and he'll make a great candidate for America's Got Tallent. Man, just play the song.

  • I actually do like this cover and your other works.

  • Good, but can you strum a chord?

  • I can't stop pressing the replay button.. (:

I love it Jon! It one of the best Covers of this song.

  • great cover! I've got to ask, do you have sheet music or tabs for any of your original compositions?

  • @mrcouch1 link in description

  • Wow... amazing stuff... greetings from Trinidad:-) I dont mean to compare but Andy McKee's stuff seems so easy compared to the stuff you do. Looking forward to hearing more stuff :-)

  • Dude your crazy. I'm sharing your videos with everybody!!!!

  • This is breathtaking.... The ambience, the soft pings and clicks. Very zen and relaxing. I can't stop listening :)

  • I've spent the last month and a half trying to learn this :D i'm about a quarter of the way there lol! :P When i watch this i'm in awe! but actually playing it has given me a closer look at the skill and musicality that actually goes into this MASTERPIECE!!

    Sam :D

  • Absolutely amazing and beautiful. I'm going to go and burn my guitar now.

  • Comment removed

  • Wonderful version! That's so good! *****, love it! Jim

  • Hey Jon, I love how you use the entire guitar as your instrument, Not just the strings. You sir are a true musician, Very talented one too. I could listen to your music for ages.

  • OMG, great man, great guitar... fantastic

  • very, very good my friend, congrats!

  • This Is the first time I've ever heard or seen this guy. Very impressive.

  • You got something very special pal good luck for the future and i hope our paths cross one day

  • Jon, you totally own this instrument.

I have to see you live. It is my new mission. Maybe i'll come and say hello.

  • i love this. beautiful

  • This one is better than Mayer version for sure! Beautiful!

  • ABACAB jk =)

  • Chuck Norris called, he says you can keep his beard for a bit longer, but he wants it back eventually. Oh, and some guitar lessons. :P

  • great job, really enjoy your style

  • Insanely well done. You mentioned you used 'very heavy strings', what gauge are you putting on?

  • My respects, Jon. You are more than an amazing guitar player, and a pretty good singer... You are a true musician , all round. You made me shiver. And i don´t happen to get surprised too often. You are great!!!

  • I think that your playing is the highest level of guitar playing...rescpect man! respect... :)

  • are you tapping the strings with your nails to make the harmonics come out or with ur finger tips against the fret? i love the sound of harmonics but i can never get a clear one out from an open 5th and 7th fret you know?

  • Great job man ! :-)

  • I'm a grown man and this bought tears to my eyes. Amazing

  • Your guitar has some serious lovemarks, sir.

  • Genius interpretation , you'd brought new quality to this song ; )

  • i have been watching your videos for an hour now. You are indeed pushing the boundaries of the guitar, simply amazing!

  • Absolutely incredible. I stumbled upon Passionflower and was immediately addicted. It's tough to find a great fingerstyle guitarist, who also has a great singing voice. But you're style goes above and beyond that, anyway. You are a genre in, and of yourself. Cheers!

  • So refreshing to hear and see Real Talent, greetings from Brazil :)

  • hi jon! awesome version, it's amazing how complete your sound is. got a question: what did you do to rough up your guitar to get the shaker/caxixi sounds? i couldn't even imagine doing that to my guitar, much less a 4k+ euro one!

  • "thats pretty magical." - I feel the same way :)

  • Do you ever play guitar the normal way, you know.. human?

  • why does this videoo look like cgi????!

  • i can play that part from 3.45

  • Amazing tapping and fingerwork... this blew my mind.

  • Wow Jon, that is simply awesome :D I'm not gonna even guess how many hours it took you to put that (percussion, harmonics, etc) all together. I'm also a big fan of The Police. I've just sent you a video of me doing "Walking on the Moon". It's nowhere as awesome as your cover but I thought you might like it :)

  • thats pretty magical. wish i could play my guitar like that

  • how long does it take to put this kind of piece together???

  • @tmarks313 It takes ages. :)

  • I normally hate this song, but damn this is good.

  • I bow down for you. Jon, you are an amazing guitarist! Keep the videos coming.

    Greetings from Sweden

  • However good this guy is at guitar playing, this is a really bad cover of message in a bottle.

  • That CHORUS.... so impressive. Well, the whole thing is really, anything you do is fantastic for that matter... but yes. :D

  • Great song, but you need to get whoever was in charge of recording this and fire them (possibly out of a cannon). You've got what sounds like a god awful 128kbs MP3 layed over a 1080p high-definition video. :/

  • Definitely one of my favourite covers of this song. Great work Jon! Mind me asking what guitar do you use? Love the tone you're getting out of it!

  • @Zephyrsapphire It's a Lowden O12. Lowdens are beautiful guitars, hand made in Northern Ireland. Check them out!

  • @jongomm Hey Jon, two questions about your instrument. 1) Is it designed to be a baritone guitar? 2) How often do you change strings with the heavy gauge that you use?

  • Jon you give me ladyboners, and I'm a dude.

  • THIS MAN IS A WIZARD

  • My god, how does one even get into such a type of guitar playing, what is it even called? ive been playing fingerstyle for a while, but this is just incredable!

  • all your videos are amazing! your my new idol and godfather of guitar,i mean i watched like thousands of guitar videos over the last years but i can tell you that this is next to tosin abasi the best stuff ive ever seen. since i saw this i see at as a mission to spread the word about you, because you deserved way more attention!

    regards, fred!

  • Well done man awesome work! I just dont get it that it has not so many views! :(

  • This is incredible, as usual. On their own the guitar and singing are incredible, but together it is mind-blowing. I think it's safe to say that you blew the whole 'only females can multitask' argument out of the water ;)

  • i don't wanna be his guitar

  • Amazing work Jon, great touch! Feather fingers ;) Can you please tell me what tuning you have on the guitar (all strings) in order to get the harmonics where you have them?

  • @BandMojo The tuning is Bb F Bb Eb F C. I use very heavy strings though, you'll probably find it works better in CGCFGD or DADGAE.

  • @jongomm Thanks Jon, you are an Angel! Hope to see more of your work soon. You are an inspiration!

  • @jongomm thats really cool! I've never really heard of down tuned acoustic music, and I love what you create! I'm normally into death metal and stuff but your music is so complex yet entirely understandable I love it.

    Keep it up!

  • @jongomm

I have been trying for months to copy some of your work sir, but i guess this is just too impossible for a normal human being

  • @jongomm 0.14 ?

  • Thank u!

  • nice playying

  • Simply one of the most innovative guitar players out there today. Sting would love this cover

  • @lhvent Thanks! Sting was 60 this month, maybe this can be my birthday present to his. I call this "Tantric Guitar Playing" :)

  • Jon GREAT JOB MAN! Can you please tell me what components do you use to make your guitar so sensitive to your touch on her body and how do you do your fret board so fast attack? Thank you!

  • @pioannou84b The guitar has a small condenser microphone inside, and a Carlos Juan pickup in the bridge which is very sensitive. Hope this helps!

  • @jongomm That is what i have on my guitar as well but when you hit the notes "C Bb F Eb" with your right hand they are sustained. What effect are you using because simple reverb doesn't do the trick, or if its reverb with one are you using? Thanks for the previous response, you are a God amongst mortals man!

  • @pioannou84b There's no effect on those right-hand tapped notes. They are tapped harmonics, so they sustain naturally. The only effect on here is some reverb.

  • @jongomm Thank you!

  • Hey Jon, what an amazing performance! I had a question about how long you have that guitar, since it seems really worn out!
