  • Exquisite clip! The Queen MC LYTE always says profound words! She always leave the listeners full -unlike many newbies! Everything she said is true to form! I never heard her dissing her own race w/ don imus rants! WTF is that shit about?! These crack babies can say all the bs that they want but if there was no MC LYTE, Queen, Roxanne & all of the other pioneers there would be no barbie acts today! So I dare a young/dumb bitch to say: Mc Lyte who? Cram to overstand this! Lyte school'em some more

  • MC lyte anotha living legend,i swear the new gen. of female rappers which is....nikki minaj is a fuckin joke itlike the new gen of hip hop soul purpose is destroy the rich legacy of the art of hip hop smh

  • Can someone tell me the name of that song I have been looking for it forever??

  • its Called RIDE WIT ME! i thinks its from her underground album...

  • Hey Solowizard,

    "ShayDirect,

I'm not that good at speaking ebonics, but let me give it a shot, "dat may be da tooth if you ax other gangsta rappers, but dat ain't always da case my nigga".

    You feel me? "

    LOL! LOL!

My friends and I fell out laughing over your response to Shaydirect! OMG! you are so funny!

  • Queen Latifah and Monie Love were the best female rappers of my generation. Monie Love was like the female version of "Twista".

There were others like Roxan,Roxan.,Silk Tymes Leather and Ms. Amutha Nature.

These female rappers had real talent and they didn't have to resort to profanity and Gangsta Rap Gutter Language. I just wish the British born Monie Love was as successful as Queen Latifah is today in other things.

  • With all due respect, just because they had a catchy song with "Ladies First" does not make them the best of that era. Im a Native Tongue fan so I have respect and love for Monie and Latifah...but by no means were they ever even in the same building with Lyte, MC LYTE was the FEMALE version of RAKIM! It wasn't until Lauryn Hill came on the scene that you had a female who even came close to the lyrical skill M.C. Lyte had.....

  • AFROHISPANIC7,

We've just elected The First Black President of The United States. Who gives a shit about Gangsta Rap and MC Lyte.

    That's so small talk now.

  • Not sure what one has to do with the other... Obviously it meant enough to you that you had to comment on the topic, you initiated the "gangster rap" talk by bringing it up, and connecting Lyte to that nonsense. So I am responding to a comment you made on a public discussion board, on a very specific topic. It's not like I interrupted a discussion on the great achievement of President Elect Obama, to discuss this. So your point is meaningless, nice try!

  • AFROHISPANIC7,

My point is that I've moved on. Sure! I brought it up weeks ago, but so much has changed since. I could really care less about that stuff you're talking about.

  • My point is this, you expressed your views on a public forum which means your comments are subject to being criticized and are open to someone responding to those comments. There is no expiration date on this site, If I posted a dumb comment on this site a year ago, I should be prepared to defend it a year later. The fact that you personally have moved on doesn't change a the fact that I am responding to your dumb comment, Im not in your head. Some advice, easiest way to move on is not to respond

  • AFROHISPANIC7,

What you said is true, but I prefer to let you know WHY I won't engage in a subject that I no longer consider meaningful regardless how much time passes. You can respond as often as you like, but know this; After being made aware of my point of view, I will no longer respond to YOU!

See ya, and I wouldn't wanna be ya!

  • Do you know the role that Black entertainment has played in the acceptance of Black America? This was so because there was a time when entertainment was the only way Blacks could get a foothold in society, from Al Jolson on down. By the way, this woman was not a gangsta rapper and was giving dignity and respect to Black women growing up in dreadfully violent neighborhoods long before Mr Obama was even on the scene. She also spoke against violence.

  • anastamotic,

    No shit.

  • @ AFROHISPANIC7,

Solowizard is basically right. MC Lyte's raps were all about Ghetto Drama. Whereas Queen latifah and Monie Love rapped about meaningful things.

  • Haha. Have you ever seen Latifah's mostly ghost written album called Black Reign where she is trying to be a gangsta on songs like The Black Hand Side and Listen 2 me? Lyte was REAL. She gave respect to female emcees, didn't need male ghost writers and was original. Latifah (Early in her career) just spit weak pro-woman cliches that you could hear pretty much anywhere, and then when Hip Hop began to change she changed. Now she changed again and has gone Hollywood. lyte is still the same.

  • Proves my point, you know very little about the culture, you arespeaking from a very limited perspective!

  • You can disagree with this person without being condenscending. What does MC Lyte have to do with"gangsta rappers". Lyte is an M.C. a lyricist, she was never a "Gangsta Rapper"...Hey do your research she was part of the original "Stop The Violence" She has the pivotal verse in the classic collaborative song "Self Destruction"! Do your research!
