As has previously been said, he was also backing off to keep behind the Boxster to stay in shot. The Boxster was also taking it easy.
It was a bunch of mates having a gentle cruise round their favourite road, so your pompous comments are totally in the wrong place. Both cars can (and have) gone much, much faster and smoother round that particular piece of tarmac.
With the amount of horses and the grip on that STi ... he would have annhilated the boxster on the straight way to easily. The guy is just following around ...
32% powertrain loss at 16% loss of crank hp split through 2 differentials. at VERY MOST. usually not as high becasue the power distribution is 60/40 on imprezas. but if so its putting 248 to the wheels just under what the boxster is making. but is able to handle it much better out of the corners being AWD and such. the cars are basically equally matched. the boxster just keeps a good lcok on the impreza
If anyone thinks that Impreza is actually pushing fast, please direct yourself to the nearest Subaru or Mitsubishi dealer and drive a STi and an Evo at 50% throttle.
Thats why they lap a lot faster than a lot faster cars.
AWD STi and Evos are excelllent handling machines. Not for unskilled drivers (not that Im claiming to be one. But have driven and sat in one when being driven by its owner ... damn good in proper hands. But tahts for any car really)
Just after the bridge, at 1:10 notice how smooth the Boxster S takes the corner at the beginning of Hatzenbach and then observe how the Scooby raggedly over-steers the same corner at 1:11. Again, at 4:52 the Scooby under-steers, brakes and has to correct to get the line again at the tightening bend at Wehrseifen where a split second before the Porsche handled it with aplomb.
Steilstrecke, at 6:50 the Scooby gets it wrong again as he turns in to early -- definitely driver error. Once more the Impreza over-steers prior to the approach to Hohe Acht at 7:28. Is this all about the driver or is it the car? Either way, I'll have the Porsche all the time!
Are you kidding? The Subie, as poorly driven as it was, was just toying with the Porsche. It was just staying behind for video purposes, it had way more hp than the stock P-car. These cars are in different categories. It was just a nice video of the 'ring.
that was a wicked video. makes me want to drive with the windows down on an empty highway with some good driving music. unfortunately its all full of snow and cold.
The Boxster is 0-60 in 4.8 seconds as tested by CD/RT/AB etc. The camera angle is great because it would have shown the slightest wiggle or push by the Porsche. But in every corner it is planted and follows the drivers line. It appears that the driver is only pushing it to about 80% of what the car will do. On the other hand the we see a lot of tail sliding, counter steer and running a line that's not the fatest because of it.
it all comes to the skills of the driver, so i hope you dont take too serious conclusions on this vid, i know i wont, because i know how a 330hp@1200kg AWD GC8 performs and how many 911's i have overtaken in the past 9 years.
What is the title of the last Nirvana Remix song? Who is it by? BTW...I just picked up a used Boxster S, they're definitely not rockets but the handling and braking limits are downright scary.
aphex twin song is window licker i think. also agree with gpxx1607 the geomitry ??? or how ever you spell it??lol is wrong on the scoob i run a classic scoob with a 2.5 rebuild running spax all round and its a lot more precise into corners than that one. yes i would like a 911 not a boxer but i have two kids and cant afford 1 lol or the running costs,
imprezza could of won, but when you have driven both as i have, you will agree, the lasting quality and drive of the Porsche says goodbye to Subaru all day.
Only comparing by the spec, the Rex should win in a quarter mile drag: running early to mid 13s, Bosxter (presume is a 3.2L engine) a second behind; both on street tyres.
To me.. it seemed like the shocks on the rex were set too soft, bounced too much. You can see the camera and the back of the bosxter were very stable in contrast. Rex driver reacted slowly for early corners and showing inexperience on that track. In the clip, the 350bhp pow was too much for those tyres to handle; or else his front wheel alignment has issue. The Rex shifted rigidly (may be new to his heavy duty clutch). Boxster did a good job, running so linear like using the tiptronic.
Whatever dude... I own a Seat Leon 20VT4 that does 0-62mph (0-100kmh) in 6.1sec. A Porsche Boxter does the same in 7.5 and a Porsche Boxter S in 6.3... An out-of-the-box Subaru Impreza WRX Sti does the same in 5.5sec... So... Whatever...
Your right about the 0-60 on the S, I also read 5.7. My WRX PPP is listed at 4.8 but I raced one of the from a rolling start, it was neck and neck all the way, same power (260 bhp) both AWD and surprisingly the porsche is only a little lighter. I think I could of had him off the lights though
Tiptronic Boxster is about 0.6 seconds slower than the manual. the 05+ S Boxsters run 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, which is typically conservative as per Porsche.
the boxter might not be faster in a straight line, but it is known for its mid-engine handling, neutral and a weight distribution that is nearly perfect. These are characteristics that help you on the ring ;)
The SPOILER doesn't create downforce, it spoils the airflow over the surface of the car which is in effect an a aerofoil shape thus reducing lift. Wings create downforce on race cars.
Good vid boys! I owned a Boxster S too and only wished I had gone there too. The Boxster was one of the best handling cars I owned and was a hoot in the wet too.
This is the one vid that is making do the ring in me scoob..before im 40. 2 years to go.

where to begin?
The Impreza in question was running experimental suspension and is now 50% stiffer front and 66% stiffer rear as well as 10mm greater ride height.
The driver in question was getting bored and pulling all sorts of stunts to try to induce slides, hence the 'ragged inputs' and strange lines.
As has previously been said, he was also backing off to keep behind the Boxster to stay in shot. The Boxster was also taking it easy.

1st, thats not an sti, its a heavily modded legacy gt impreza. 2nd, it weighs about twice as much as the boxster
3rd, the all wheel drive drivetrain robs so much power from the wheels that the higher bhp is practically all canceled out.
4th, yeah he could have passed coming into the turns, but wasnt skilled enough.

You need to watch Top gear season 9 episode 6, James was in a straight road and he broke the world speed record by lowering the spoiler.
It is true that spoiler hold the car steady.
alex26london 4 years ago
Land record...uh huh!!...
unless ur trying to fly!
vangtran 4 years ago
yes you are right but if its down u can go faster
alex26london 4 years ago
You won't go faster.
With more downforce the car will hug the road as it can be seen on the video. That gives better handling and hence better speed through corners.
Are you suggesting that F-1 cars should get rid of their foils to increase speed?
LOOPDOP 4 years ago
dude your spoiler comes out when u speed then goes back down as u slow down you could just keep in down and get more down force
alex26london 4 years ago
You've got it wrong.
The downforce is created when it is UP(raised).
It automatically comes out at +/- 120 km/h (75mph)to INCREASE the downforce.
LOOPDOP 4 years ago
The SPOILER doesn't create downforce, it spoils the airflow over the surface of the car which is in effect an a aerofoil shape thus reducing lift. Wings create downforce on race cars.
