I saw a video once where a womens self defense instructor arranged for a dude to try to seal the purses of the women in the class in the parking lot. He wanted to see if they actually applied what they learned, and not one of them did. They just slapped, and flailed like any other woman would. The guy was able to get all of their purses. (He gave them back after he told them what was up)

It's so unfortunate. People watch movies and think that stuff like this works against big strong people. The shame is that it doesn't. You know when he has her in a blood choke from behind. She gets out by twisting and elbowing. Doesn't work. I could physically lift her from the ground with a behind choke. You can't twist, can't elbow. It would be nice if sheer strength could be beaten by this stuff, but big strong men have big strong muscles. Their punches devastate and the throws don't work.

I agree. The moves are way too exaggerated and deliberate. It looks like it was choreographed for the Power Rangers. Reality is very quick and extremely brutal.

K gonna try to avoid a flame war about this. You can punch really well if you have distance. What do you do when your 6 foot 6 attacker grabs you? You can hope like hell that you can REALLY quickly make him let go of you, or he picks you up off the ground. Then he can slam you down into the cement. Or a wall. Or just plain choke you. You can't stop this because you have no leverage on anything.

I respect people's attempts to learn defence. But this sort of thing doesn't actually work.

I'm a martial artist as well in Shaolin Kempo Karate, Kung Fu & Jiu Jitsu...guys who say it's acting or hollywood clearly need their vision checked and no very little about technique. vorallem die letzte aktion gefällt mir, wo sie dem angreifer klar macht, dass so ein stock zum verhängnis werden kann, indem sie ihn auf die stelle zimmert, wo jeder mann erkennt, dass er im nachteil ist, weil der unterschied zwischen den beinen machts. in der praxis empfiehlt es sich natürlich, nicht zu zaghaft auf die kugeln zu schlagen, dann ist der pädagogische effeckt besser.
