My father would have loved this video. We spent close to 20 years building a train layout in his basement together. He kept the entire layout in the 1940's/50's era. Our favorites were always the steam trains. He passed away last year and every time I hear a steam whistle it brings a tear to my eye.
I like this video too my dad was briefly on this locie (2860) in 1974 or 5 he never lived to see steam expo but I know he was there anyhow always love this locie
Thanks for posting this. I remember 6060 from when I was a little boy when she was still owned by CN in the 70s. Dad had a brass model of 2860 and we went to see her every chance we had too. Along with the 1057, the 136 and the 6218, these engines were a steam staple for me when I was a train-obsessed little boy. Wonderful to see them doing a doubleheader, I wasn't aware till now that this had happened. Two great rivals on the same train. Wonderful.
This has got to be one of the best steam clips anywhere. I was living in North Vancouver in 1988. Steam Expo had taken place two years earlier at the waterfront yards in Vancouver. Would love to see a video of that event as well. Does anyone know of one?
6060 is being held in stettler, ab. it is owned by the rocky mountain railway society. its still operational doing a steam excursion from stettler to big valley.
I grew up around trains, and with 6060 while she called The Northern Alberta Railway Museum in Edmonton her home in the 1980's. My dad and I were members there and he frequently worked (repaired) the locomotives there. I am thankful that I have ahd the priveledge to ride in 6060. This is just music to my ears.
Yes, but that kind of speed along the BC coast out of the question. Not much tangent track. 70 mph would ensure a quick trip into the straits! Slow speeds are better for a well defined exhaust anyway, and easier to pace.
