Now with the Earvana, would it work better than a zero fret? because i've heard that the zerofret eliminates most problems like action and intonation where a normal nut could be too low or high or could be angled off slightly by accident. thanks for any info :)
I just bought an ESP with this nut. I assumed it was just a gimmick when I bought it, but I must say it's a really nice feature. I've been able to intonate my guitar almost perfectly. Pretty cool I think.
For guitar work you do not need a strobe tuner. The best tuner in the low price range ist the SAT1100. Not expensive at all. It is a needle tuner, not a LCD and is very precise. Google for it. Must not tell the manufacturer name here, YOUTUBE don't like that :-)
I have tested quite a bunch of those tuner animals, trust me.
@ravenshield56 He wouldn't have to invent a new nut if he and his buddy stopped trying to be Jimi Hendrix Jr.s' and played the right guitars. Haha, but I do like the Earvana system
I don't know what to think. I got one of these for my variax 300, and it simply does not work on my guitar. It is absolutely no more in tune than it was with the old nut. I'm certain I purchased the right one, according to the measurements of my guitar. There's just simply no effect whatsoever.
@totallyairplanecrazy That's silly, even if your intonation is perfect the guitar isn't going to be in tune all over the fretboard. It's an 'out of tune' instrument
@totallyairplanecrazy idiot. you must have a shitty ear if you think intonating a guitar by regular means gives you perfect in tune notes everywhere including combining fretted notes with unfretted. of course they've heard of INTONATION, they are also good enough to HEAR that it's flawed when trying to get every note PERFECT...it's the nature of the design
I'm a lefty and this is making my brain explode.. I can't concentrate. Why do each of them have the tummy cut digging into their legs? - - I use capos a lot so I am getting ready to install a few of these.
Why don't you all make a video on how to install one, especially on a Strat. Some of the techs that are recomended in my area I wouldn't take a childs guitar to. I am better off doing it myself, so how about that how to video.
Put a capo on one of the frets. Then this nut would have no effect. Why not just use a zero fret? The bridge compensates for the different properties of the different strings.
I bought a used ESP LTD EC 500 that has an Earvana nut, and I love it. I'm totally hooked on it now and I wanna put Earvana nuts on all my guitars. On their website, they even show they're developing an Earvana locking nut for Floyd systems! Too cool!
The Buzz Feiten system is an expensive way to get your axe in tune. You'll need a special tuner. You shouldn't use a capo or change tunings, and if you don't live in the USA, good luck finding a qualified technician to adjust your guitar.
On the other hand, Earvana nuts are much cheaper, any good guitar tech can install them, and you can still work with and on your guitar as usual. Musicman basses & guitars uses them as OEM. Enough said!
Anyway, if you live in the USA it is easy to find people like you who probably are not able to locate european countries in the map and think that any place outside the USA is third world. Now is enough!
What curbowman says is true- for instance, it's basically impossible to find techs over here in Europe who are qualified to work with Buzz Feiten systems, even in stores that carry Washburn.
I agree with Holiday1960 I have installed both and the earvana is much easier in both use, tuning and installation. And the chords sound all so sweet! Rock on Earvana.
Your still going to need a special tuning method and a strobe tuner to keep it in tune. These are much more simple and you don't need to go to a $5000 training course to learn how to install it.
Buzz Fieten system requires trusting a repairman where there are no guarantees. I got burned very bad by a "Buzz guy" in my area. I got his name from the Buzz site, and the guy ruined my guitar. I almost had to sue him to get my money back. He kept the guitar, so I still lost.
Sorry about your poor experience. I understand about getting "burned" and having to litigate, considering "pie-in-the-sky" claims might exist. Who did your Buzz Feiten modifications? I am interested about the system, but also skeptical.
The guys name is Jerry Mis. He was at that time operating out of Macon Ga. The guy absolutely destroyed my Washburn guitar that I sent to him for a fret job, and buzz feiten tuning system.
Buzz's system is ok, but it in no way is superior to the Earvana. I prefer the earvana to the buzz system, which requires special tuning intonation points, and special tuners.

why the hell are their guitars upside down..?

Is it just me or does this guy from Earvana looks like a young Brian Wilson from the Beach boys??
HoosierLine 5 months ago
Naw the zero fret would be counter-productive as the compensated nut sets the intonation differently for each string

This is a poor excuse for a nut. It's a little thing called SETTING INTONATION- these guys never heard of it

@benj2101 Go look at a true temperament neck, it makes the instrument a "perfectly in tune everywhere" instrument

I have read that open strings with unisons up the neck sound sour with this. Anyone comment?

I do know Geography, and I live in a third world country: Venezuela. Also, I've been a guitar technician since 1991 so I know what I'm talking about.
And don't be so rude! That attitude could get you into trouble. We are talking guitars here, not flaming people. Peace.

Buzz Feiten retrofit does not cut into the fretboard! The nut overlays the fretboard..
