barry was the best all around shortstop of the 90s & a class act..played the first half of his career for that racist prick marge schott and carried himself with dignity, i feel for the black players who had to play for that bitch. he's an all-star, world champion, MVP, first 30-30 ss, one of the first speed/power guys at the position and every bit as good as overrated cal ripkin..how many guys do you still see playing shortstop when they're 40? thats the kind of athlete he is, next stop HOF!

@elsassb true..he leads all non-juicers in short stop silver sluggers..barry was the best all around shortstop of the 90's..speed, power, avg/contact hitter, gun for an arm and he would have won 3-4x as many gold gloves if it wasn't for playing w/ ozzie smith most of his career. too bad those stat nerds like john heyman and buster olney kept him out of the hall the past 2 years..larkin is in for sure next year he may be the only one voted in next year..not many guys play ss until their 40s

@xspfdhardcorekid417x should have been this year, next year for sure..baseball was lucky to have a class act/great athlete..not many barry larkin types out there these days..just greedy assholes on juice demanding a hundred million bucks. he came in as a red, left as a red, carried himself with dignity along the way and put up a hell of a career..played shortstop until he was 40, not many guys can..the captain #11 is going to the hall in '12.

The Reds also won big that night! Joe Oliver, Chris Sabo Barry and Eric Davis hit a grandslam. I think Duncan homered. What a great game to start my love for the Reds off with! All though Sabo is my favorite of all time. Barry is second. I'll be 30 in march and I love the Reds as much now as I did then. Go Reds!

My first Reds game July 16th against the Exbo's. Barry pulled in under the staduim were you could still walk up to the cars. My first autograph. Got a pic of me and him beside his Benz. He and 4 others homered that night. Tim Wallach through me a ball in batting practice. Great day. Thanks mom!

Sweet tune. I was in pittsburgh in 96 when Barry cracked homerun number 30. I think it was 30 anyway, might have been 29. Aside from all of the beers, the only thing I remember is Chad Mottola started in right field that night.

one of if not the greatest ALL AROUND shortstops in history. i played shortstop and wore #11 most of the time i played ball. anyone who loves and appreciates baseball can't help but respect his game and all he did while he was in the show. 5 tool players from the shortstop position were a rare commodity in barry's prime, lets see if another shortstop not on 'roids ever eclipses 30 bombs a year again. first 30-30 man in the number 6 position ever, first ballot hall of famer imo.

Thanks,Barry Larkin is my absolute favorite player. Without a doubt, he was the best shortstop in the National League in the 1990s and just a great person too. He retired on 2/13/2005. It's time to begin the Hall of Fame campaign!
