I'd love to ride one of those trains across the great state of Wyoming, Utah and into Nevada. I won't illegally train hop, so I guess I am just stuck watching these videos and hiking near the tracks on insulator hunts even though that still is "trespassing".
Along the old UPRR they had telegraph poles adorned with Mulford & Biddle insulators or EC&Ms (depending where on the line you look). They often fell off and would be buried in the dirt with time. Find one and they are not only cool, but worth some bucks. Note the video at 0:39 and you'll see a telegraph pole with insulators on it. The lines are still live on that one (they are stretched tight). Don't pull those down! :)
I found an old edison battery oil bottle, too. They are common.
Cool, I know what you're talking about now. Actually a couple months ago somebody left one in the cab of a locomotive. I should have kept it, but it was really dirty and I didn't know they were worth anything.
Most are worthless, even if they are several decades old. (They were made in huge quantities). However, with the right brand and color... Insulators can be worth thousands of dollars. eBay is loaded with all kinds, most sell for practically nothing. Purple Insulators are desirable!
I wish I could get into a cab of a locomotive running down the track. I have the wrong job. :)
A job well done UP, for hauling so much freight on your trains, see you on the employee list in 8 years!!!!!!! I love you guys!!!!!! YELLOW FOR EVER!!!!!!!!
For all who didn't notice, this video IS UPLOADED BY UP. They had the music composed for their series of comercials.

Great video! On the 58th second I noticed a CNW locomotive, but I guess that counts as a UP loco anyways. Did anyone else see that radiator?
hanke55 2 years ago
Yes. It was a C44-9H
DH082008 2 years ago
and the loco in front of it was a tunnel motor! the radiator is just visible for a second if you look closely

SP4449BN9444 3 years ago
yesnthere is. Not to argue but if you pause it a :58, there is a UP painted SD40T-2 and a CSX dash-9 or something.
