I think so. As I see it, there are 3 reasons to see this picture: one is obviously the technicolor, two is Miriam Hopkins' engaging performance and 3 is the excellent Duchess of Richmond's Ball set-piece. I find that some people don't realize that event actually happened, in Brussels 1815.
@ThaCrip79 No. The first full-length natural color - meaning not hand colored - movie was "The Durbar at Delhi" from 1912. And Kodachrome wasn't developed until the mid 30's. Kodak bought out the work of Mannes and Godowsky.
"You blacken my character" - good god! I love when the narrator is talking about the rich reality of natural color, which is clearly not the case here. Well this is an interesting tidbit.
Thank you so much for posting this! It's a shame the film is so hard to see as it was a huge success in its day and Miriam Hopkins was perfect casting.
This film was the first full length Technicolor realise. It was not preserved, pratically all original prints was destroyed, as the original negatives. The film was restored from surviving prints from all over thew world. It still have problems as scratchs, image definition and others. Only a digital restoration very well made would turn oit a desentfor DVD.
