  • I think so. As I see it, there are 3 reasons to see this picture: one is obviously the technicolor, two is Miriam Hopkins' engaging performance and 3 is the excellent Duchess of Richmond's Ball set-piece. I find that some people don't realize that event actually happened, in Brussels 1815.

  • isn't miriam marvelous here? oscar nomination for BEST ACTRESS...

  • Que fantástico el aterrizaje del color al cine... Tuvo que ser éste uno de esos momentos mágicos de incalculable valor...

  • Great trailer, is this the first movie in color??????? NEED TO KNOW!!!!!!

  • @thetigergeneration ...

according to the video on youtube (which contains a link to a article), 'Kodak 1922 Kodachrome Film Test' says that it IS the first movie in color.

  • @ThaCrip79 i know, but i mean is this the first motion picture film in color

  • @thetigergeneration .... YES. read what i said.

Backy Sharp IS the first motion picture in color. that was the point i was making with my first reply to you ;)

  • @ThaCrip79 No. The first full-length natural color - meaning not hand colored - movie was "The Durbar at Delhi" from 1912. And Kodachrome wasn't developed until the mid 30's. Kodak bought out the work of Mannes and Godowsky.

  • @thetigergeneration No. This is the first full-length movie using the then new 3-color Technicolor process.

  • yes, thank you for posting this what a piece of history :D

  • excellent post

  • My names becky sharp =]

  • "You blacken my character" - good god! I love when the narrator is talking about the rich reality of natural color, which is clearly not the case here. Well this is an interesting tidbit.

  • at 2:01 she looks like christia applegate

  • it good that u have put this movei on here it helped allot 4 my school project!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! It's a shame the film is so hard to see as it was a huge success in its day and Miriam Hopkins was perfect casting.

  • This film was the first full length Technicolor realise. It was not preserved, pratically all original prints was destroyed, as the original negatives. The film was restored from surviving prints from all over thew world. It still have problems as scratchs, image definition and others. Only a digital restoration very well made would turn oit a desentfor DVD.

  • what a shame... looks like a good movie...
