When I was younger I thought that gun was much smaller. I thought it was some mini-machine gun with an attactment he uses to attack people with. My imagination was something in those days. Wow do I remember getting to this boss back in 1997 and beating him.
My sister and I would get to this guy all the time just to hear his music haha wed take forever to beat him cause we love this song. Who needs the "sound test" in the options? Wanna hear the song go to the source haha

I picked YES one time and it pissed me the hell off and i made sure that Mr. X got his ass beat!! I love old school games; New School is cool but i will never remember them like i will with these games.
Long answer: Both characters WILL fight to the death (until someone decides to stop continuing or until ALL continues are exhausted). The survivor will be given the option again, but choosing no (yes will still land you back a few stages) will trigger the boss fight as normal.
Following Mr. X's defeat, the player will take their place as the new leader of a (now-broken and defeated) Syndicate.
Not much else, but it was a bit of a twist back then... :D

This motherfucking bastard is the only one who fights in the game wiht fire weapons, and suck's at using them! What a douche. I enjoyed kick is ass severely times before dinner when I was a child. Awesome game and more awesome soundtrack.
@Demolitionlinchpin Thank you. I only brought up that pingas reference because both Robotnik and Mr. X were sitting in chairs in a similar fashion(and because I think it would be funny if other bad guys said the quote).
There was also a Streets of Rage Remake(which is techincally a fan-made Streets of Rage 4). It was shut down by Sega, but it was great. You can play as Axel, Blaze, Adam, Skate, Max, Zan, Shiva, Mr. X, and a few more. And it has multiple endings(you can see all of them here).
