  • This scene always plays in my head when I was a Sgt in the Marines. That why we always get a head count so no man is forgotten or left behind. It was screwed that a fellow soldier lied about his whereabouts. Reminds me of Sgt Gibbs with the sports killing.

  • Platoon was a movie that not only showed them being effected by the VC but also the jungle itself

  • And the cattle today still love their mass-murder. …cheer for it… rave even… as long as their opinion makers ( professional liars) tell them it’s all for the greater good.

Progress? What progress? Looks more like regress to me. :/

  • WINNING!

  • is that the guy from sniper???

  • Wheres the Violent Torpedo of Truth here?

  • This film actually made me cry

  • the message is- u dont need to be an asshole to be bad ass. you can be a hard mofo and still have integrity.

  • 25 years later it feels odd to see Willem Dafoe as the "good" sergeant

  • Platoon for classic characters and dialogue.

Saving Private Ryan for the combat scenes.

And Full Metal Jacket for Hue goes without saying.

  • I saw his eyes and i was like SAY WHAT?

    then he died.

Then i saw him run and i was like SAY WHAT?

    then he died.

Then he got up and ran again and i was like SAY WHAT?

    then he died.

LOL!!!! Still one of the best movies of all time though.

  • One of they most classic cinematic scenes of movie history along with the greatest choice of music. Very touching film, hope it shows all the vets from all the wars that we will never forget what they did for use.

  • This movie is the most autenthic movie i ever seen.It really shows you the drama and reality of vietnam.I would say every movie of war isnt real, but this movie is the only really authentic one.An good friend of my has an dad that was in vietnam.

    _______________________________________________________________

    Plat00n,the BEST war movie ever.

  • To this day...this scene makes me tear up. Hell I remember the first time I saw this. I was a young kid in middle school and it was on AMC and it was at this part and my dad was showing me because of the music and how the scene was and I can remember even at that young age seeing how sad this was then when I actually saw the whole movie later that night and saw what actually happened to him, I pretty much broke out in tears...I wonder if barnes felt ANY sort of bad when he saw what happened?

  • Wats that song during the village burning...i can never ferger it out

  • Death? What ya'll know about death?

  • @Jamescreaney You stop breathing when it happens.

  • Like this teen-er said, "Kill them all, then let God figure it out"!

  • Comment removed

  • The only regret I have about the Viet Nam war is that we didn't kill more gooks.

  • I saw the move and it was brilliant!!!I hate war movies but when I see that PLAT{}{}N win 4 Oscars I want to see why!?This movie is one of my favourites ever.I like so much Tom Berenger.I like this hot markings on his "young" face too. $_$

  • There is fkn betrayer, I bet the part on MW2 came from this movie, i can say with comfort that watching this scene pulled a tear out of me and that this movie is one of the greatest films ever made.

  • "You're dead Elias, I swear to fuckin god you're dead!"

Looks like Barnes kept his promise.

  • @Dresden1065 well typically Barnes didn't kill Elias. The veitnamse finished him when Barnes thought he was dead

  • how is the symbolism related to christianity, the crufixition?

  • spoiler

  • This is one of those movies that when it comes on tv, I swear I'll only watch one clip. But I always end up watching till the end. Gets me everytime. Same as Point Break or Outlaw Josie Whales. Platoon, to me, is the best war movie ever made. It hits me gutturally. I think I'll watch it with my 94 year old granddad, a veteran, tonight.

  • No there not. I know my firearms compared to your BF and COD knowledge

    GOD BLESS AMERICA

    SEMPER FIDELIS

    SAT CONG

  • When is the U.S. gonna stop pussyfootin around in these "wars" and start kickin' ass the way we are able to. If we aren 't gonna try and really be victorious then why be there? The troops we lose are precious human beings and shouldn't be sacrificed for no reason. KICK ASS OR COME HOME!

  • Or 'stay' home to begin with? (don't flame me now, it's just a question)

  • the guy with the helmet has an m16a2. same thing as an "a1" but just with a diffrent stock

  • the guy with the helmet is barnes the one that isnt is elias barnes carries a m 16a2

king carries a m60 light machine gun. bunny carries a 12 gauge shotgun

  • Nope.SSgt. Barnes and Sgt.Elias carries a CAR-15.

  • no they m4's

  • no there not, M4 came in service about 1994.

  • uhm the m4 was invented in vietnam times it wasnt used widely till the 90s. all the m4 is a shorterned version of the m16

  • M16's idiot. This isn't CoD4

  • M16A2 did not exist in that time! Get your facts right! And I dont know how "light" M60 are and SAW wasnt around either :)

  • you wouldnt call the M60 a "light" if you got hit by it ! just being funny.

  • the m16a2 had a single and three shot burst, along with the m16a4. the m16a1 and m16a3 are fully automatic. the m16a1 was used in vietnam. people mistake the car-15 for an m4 because it looks very similar. the m4 carbine wasnt used until the 1990s

  • charlie's out there in the night

callin' you to come and fight

grab your 16 chase him down

drive him back into the ground

we own the day he owns the night

come play the game chasin' charlie

  • 19 to theday

such an age what a waste

come with me my uncle says

to a land where no one cares

learn to live and learn to fight

you'll see such a different light

    gamble with your life

    every day and every night

  • does anyone remember a movie called "PLATOON LEADER" that came out in 88 by cannon? that movie is pretty good too. it's not on DVD. but i have it on VHS and the soundtrack on cd

  • Send them to Roach. Roach had the Winchester Riot gun, illegal under geneva conventions but the best for up close.

  • I Knew a similar song called "IN THE ARMY NOW" by status quo...

LAAZ ROCKIT- a metal band from the 80s also wrote a song about the war. it was called "CHASIN' CHARLIE"

  • yo are they marines or army they were there regs like marines and act like them but idk

  • the guys in this movie are army, part of a cavalry unit

  • Just stopping in to share National Sunday Law by A. Jan Marcussen=)

  • Actually, the weapon used is called an XM177, you can tell by the absence of a brass deflector behind the ejection port. M4 carbines also have round forward assist levers, and different flash hiders.

  • Yeah he's using an m4, and yes it was made after the war. A minor miss, no biggie. GREAT movie tho, probably best vietnam movie i've ever seen.

  • is that guy who killed Elias using m4? i can't see clearly, but i thouth m4 was made after vienam war.

  • It's a CAR-15 I think.

  • Yeah i was thinging a same. You must be right.

  • Don't you remember the song title "19" by Paul Hardcastle. The average age of an American combat soldier in Vietnam .

Nineteen topped the pop charts in the UK for five weeks, and reached the top twenty in the USA

  • lol, I like Charlie Sheen's reaction "Oh Fuck!"

  • what means platoon?

  • platoon means soldier crew

  • You're a pure idiot! I am commenting on Hollywood's perception of war which gave us a sense of arrogance and invincibility. It was all glamour and sensationalism before this movie.

  • Before this movie? I guess you never heard of Apocalypse Now or The Deer Hunter or Coming Home, huh?

  • The Deer Hunter was awesome, but it didn't quite have the same impact for me. I felt like I was watching a movie. Watching Platoon I felt like I had a sneak peak into the reality of war and felt very fortunate that I was introduced to it in a theatre. No and I never saw Coming Home. I'll check it out. This is just my opinion lonelyboy.

  • @DanieljDixon no apocalypse now was before this

  • What a dose of reality that movie was when it hit the theaters. Everybody departed the the theater like zombies. Stone zapped the arrogance right out of US for long while.

  • Never trust Oliver Stone to teach history-hahaha!!!

To say he takes creative license is to say Mama Cass enjoyed eating.

Or that Bill Clinton is faithful

Or that George Bush thinks quick on his feet

Or that Al Gore has an electric personality.

  • I like the part where Barnes shoots elias

that was the best part of the movie

  • @dogshitfarts Fair enough, but I can't say it was mine.

I understand why Barnes felt he had to do what he did.

But he fragged one of his own men.

Not a cool thing to do to old JC.

  • fuckin awesome movie

  • The best war movie ever....

  • barnes is a bad motherfucker

  • shan as out that bit

  • Barnes is an asshole. He's just mad because Elias is better than him

  • my all time favorite movie

  • Comment removed

  • Forgive me for expressing my opinion. You don't think that's a fair critique of the film?

  • he was in the Vietnam

  • by far one of the greatest modern war films ever. this was the defining moment that made this movie such a success.

  • Can someone explain why he wasted that guy in the beginning?

  • Barnes shot Elias because Elias was trying to get Barnes convicted for war crimes because he shot a vietnamese villager and threatened to shoot a young vietnamese girl. He shot him so that he would be sure nobody would find out.

  • I liked it when Taylor zapped Barnes at the end.

lol 'Go get help boy...Go on...*Stares*' 'Do it' BANG, legendary film.

Berenger really played a good part as the scumbag.

  • You forgot the 2 other bangs lol

  • but he's a veteran

  • Mai Lai Massacre, look it up

  • He is a murderer, most vietnam vets are fucked up in the head. Most pointless coward war ever

  • dude say that to to the face of a veitnam vet i dare u

  • i have, my grandpa, and he agrees that it was useless and a cowardess war.

  • Kid, if your grandfather was in vietnam then you are nowhere near old enough to have any insight or opinion on it.

  • im 22, and have been in the military for over 3 years now. I do, and the fact your 31 and as ignorant as you are, then you need a reality check, you americans are such a joke

  • Why is it a bad thing to be American?

  • how dare you....

  • how dare i what?

  • you do realize that canada never actually fought in vietnam right?

  • Because were not stupid?

  • ..........you just said your grandpa was a Vietnam vet......

  • hes AMerican retard...

  • i so sure. he must have been old as hell seeing as the war was only 40 years ago.

  • yea so what? not every person was 20 like the movies like to pretend....

  • dude, youre so full of shit. what unit did he serve in? what company?

  • fucked If i know? why on earth would i remember his company and unit? your just looking for shit to argue about, get a life kid and understand how gay this war was and how retarded the Americans can be, this movie is a mockery of the glory Americans think they have, they are the biggest joke in the world.

Lemme guess your comback will be something like "Americans can beat anyone" "your a joke and your country"

Let me finish it now by saying you can trust an american as far as you can throw one

  • hahaha, youre so full of shit. youre grandpa didnt fight in the war. youre a poser who is making up shit so he can argue his point. youre a dumb ass

  • lol, i dont mind what you wanna think mr "im going into the marine core" the biggest joke of all armies lol. If you wanna add me to facebook to see all my training and infantry courses and current ill be glad too add

    Adam Kittson

Kids like you make me laugh and the whole army

  • i dont care about youre infantry training. i dont care about what you say about the Marine Corps, and I dont care that youre calling me small. Its nice to see a grown man throw 5th grade insults at high school students.

  • I find it amusing that youre judging my commitment off youtube. If I do fail out after one week (I wont but keep telling me I will if you want) then i'll just try again. Ive worked too hard to let myself down, so fuck off. Marines are for fail kids? ok, well, then I guess Im a failure. Whatever. Like I care what you think. You can have a chat with my buddy "HavokUSMC0311" if thats the way you feel.

  • actually they were. Probably even younger as the average age for a fighting soldier in Nam was 19. Oppose that to WWII where it was 26.

  • i think it was 23 in WW2

  • It was 22 in Vietnam. And 26 in World War dos.

  • no i'm sure it was 19 and 23 respectively

  • For Vietnam the age limit was 18.

It was unfair for the Soldiers because before the war they could not vote, so that ment they could die for their country but not vote for their country! then the 26th amendment was ratified and the voting age was down to 18.

    Semper Fi

  • One of the GREATEST movies ever made.

    PERIOD!!!!!

  • man since when did youtube become a chat room just enjoy the vid

  • no kidding

  • I guess you have to be 16

  • Willem Dafoe is one of the greatest acters i have ever seen in my life

  • This death scene is what makes for excellent story telling and the music just fruitfully compliments the drama of the moment.

    Fucking wonderful.

  • just ask the old veterans of the 2nd world war, they wont tell some shit about the vietnam...

  • well, I watched it online, here:

    blogger-films.blogspot. *com/2008/11/platoon.html

  • shows you to be ignorant.

  • children call people names, not adults. I won't continue this argument since it's clear I'm not arguing with an adult.

  • Wow, your pathetic. Love it or leave it. I am an immigrant, and I think American's are wonderful people. Humble, and generous. I wouldn't trade this country for no other place.I also happen to be European.

  • Let me just point out that people who often speak as if they are smart are actually the dumb one's. It is allready been proven. And maybe your biterness is caused by being disliked for your stupidity.Your post obviously proves your IQ.I am sure even in Europe you would be treated the same way. It has nothing to do with racism, but what a clown you are.

  • Wonderfully argued.

  • oliver stone's one good film

  • This was a good movie. a bit sad tho

  • The main reason I beleive this is the first REAL movie about the vitneam war casue I have it on dvd and one of the scenes says director oliver stone was in vitneam so he knew wut it was like from experience.

In the end such a great powerful movie one of my favorite movies of all time

  • whats a fuckin legendary film!

  • I once saw a vietnam movie which had a scene where some guys were executed, they had all blue bags on their head. Which movie was thaT? I though it was platoon but it wasn't.

  • william dafoe did a great job playing sgt. elias such a great movie one of my favorites

  • Why did he shoot his teammate?

  • Well... its a long story if you havent seen the movie, but he (Barnes) shot his teammate (Elias) because Barnes shot civilians in a village, and Elias said it to their boss, and its going to be .... you know.. a judge. I dont know what its called in english... BUT YOU MUST SEE THE MOVIE!!! ITS THE BEST MOVIE EVER!!!

  • if you really think Communism is a such a threat, go and fight with China. Back to that time, Vietnam just got out of colonialism, we couldn't produce soap for the economy's sake. How come VC become such a big issue for US Govt is the question that I couldn't figure out yet.

  • Are you afraid that VC will use wood-made boats and bring bamboo sticks to attack DC? give me a break

  • McCain was flying a jet to bomb Hanoi when he got shot down. I would not be surprised if he was killed back then, because all the ones who saved him had a relative, a member of their family died from those bombs. so I say he's lucky enough to be alive!

  • hey XIPM3, you think that only bad people dies in that war and good ones made it home. There's 56,000 American soldiers died Vietnam, but do you know that there were 3 millions VC, and around 2-3 millions civilians lived in North VN dies because of bombs being dropped in NVN? So does it mean that most of American are that good and deserve to live more than most of Vietnamese? more than the amount of bombs dropped in WW2 was dropped in an area is about the normal-size state of US, like MA

  • I wear the same patch and I am in the same Division they where in. 25TH Infantry Division is nortorious for there soldiers and how many body counts they get.

  • Got it on DVD;well worth getting if you've never seen it.

  • Fuck i remember seeing this for the first time and being so pissed/shocked that barnes did that.. Elias was the shit..

  • epic

  • baerns

  • i love it!

  • Definitely one of the few movies I can watch over and over.

  • fuck women in the military

  • if he ran a bit faster instead of in slow motion he could have made it i think.

  • Movie was based on an army unit, not USMC..movie garbage like this occurred very rarely..those of us who served there can tell you that..either there was months that it was boring and nothing happened and then all hell broke loose for weeks..than back to boring times..movies are movies,,being there was very, very different: and the USMC were organized and disciplined: you weren't there don't talk: 2/9 CAP Dogpatch TET 1968

  • This was not shot in Vietnam, was it?

  • phillipines

  • This film shows US Marines as a bunch of killers without any organization or discipline.i don't like that.

  • oliver stone wrote it based on his own experiences when he was a soldier in Vietnam. He was there

  • even if you don't like it, it's true :\ welcome to the real world

  • this movie is fuckin good... saw over 10times^^

  • fucking asshole barnes is a nut baby killer

  • wut a poweful movie out of all war movies I have seen this was the best of them all platoon= excellent film

  • CHE GUERRA INUTILE CAZZO

  • i think war movies are always the best when the hero dies at the end

  • the acting was great but the movie itself was not very good- it pandered too much to american audiences and hollywood format. main hero survives in the end to go home- bad guy dies. you know the whole routine turned me off completely, and i dont like the fact that the movie was dedicated to all MEN who fought and died in the war- the men who fought and died were murderers and butchers, both the NVA and the U.S. armies. the only people who deserve rememberence in this war are the women and chldrn

  • this was before movies or stories like " We were soldiers once...and young" came out. i disagree that only murderers and butchers fight. they are teenagers and husbnds and mothers as well. granted, they must do some sick stuff to come home alive.

  • in vitnam- the american army was an army of nothing but death and destruction- they did nothing but rape villages, burn homes, murder families, napalm children, blow up women and the list goes on and on. and the north vietnamese army is just as guilty and just as much scum as the american one- i would not give a fuck if the black wall in washington was defaced- because all those men are murderers of innocents.

  • damn right you are

  • im english and even that pissed me off you faggot! show more respect!

  • not before you respect my balls you imperialistic genocidal european fuck.

  • you have no balls you coward , i'd like to see you fighting for your country , infact you'd probably swap sides or join green peace or summit, and dont talk to me about genocide you americans practically whiped out the native northern peoples of america - dickhead!

  • Funny how logic gets thrown. Americans have an excellent history of fighting for their country, and probably saving your ass as well. UK? Check.

  • sorry if my words came across wrong but i was not making a general view of americans it was just my view of XIPM3, not all americans join green peace lol , srry 4 the misunderstanding

  • lol, guess what, i completely agree with you, america has a monopoly on genocide. the native american holocaust was by far the worst crime against humanity ever perpetrated. anyways i will fight for what i believe is right, not some political institution based on jingoistic, flag saluting propaganda namely U.S.A. so yea, if u.s. went to war i would get out instead of fight because this country is not worth fighting for. if i ever did fight fo a country- i know exactly what country it would be.

  • good point, a more adult answer than what i was expecting ,most people on here just rant and say shitty insults which is childish , i also agree with fighting for what you believe in but there is no need to disrespect the dead, not every soldier is a murderer and rapist , not all soldiers have killed people and many people in the armed forces are engineers , cooks etc. thanks

  • frankly, the only people i care about that die in war are the women and children, men- soldiers that is know their duty, so i don't weep for them, they only retard progress of human civilization as the bloody warmongers they are. even the seemingly "good" soldiers got sucked into the whirpool of carnage that was vietnam. look up My Lai massacre, you think that i honestly should care about those monsters for doing things like that?

  • you can moan all you like but there will always be war in one place or another , there has been no period in history when there has been complete peace throughout the world , to fight is in our nature, there will always be the hitlers and stalins of the world just not everyone who wears the uniform is a murdering physcopath-only a minority thank god

  • yes you are right- perhaps i am being a little bit of an idealist (and i cant stand idealism) but it will be a better world for me when the only people who die in war are the people who fight in it.

  • whayy country would it be then

  • @hamding russia.

  • ever heard the philosophy: "those who do not study history are condemned to repeat it"

I cannot abide by an ignorant populace that will support their country irrespective of the morality. The whole "my country, right or wrong" underpins what is wrong with the world. In the words of Albert Einstein: "never do anything against concience, even if the state demands it" What Einstein did not realise is how poorly educated and gullible people really are.

  • how does this contradict what i said at all? i agree with you!
