Fighting dogs aren't the only one kept poorly! Betas work best in a heated and filtered tank. Being Labyrinth fish they can breathe from the waters surface, but the keeping habits people have developed to take advantage of this trait are pretty gross. Just because a fish can live in a piss filled elephant foot print in Thailand doesn't mean we should keep them in unfiltered cold bowls filled with their own excrement. Warm him up, and filter him and he will work allot better for you.

That is such an adorable little fishy! You did a good job training. The most mine will do is come to the surface when I tell them it's time to eat.
