  • Heavy EQ-6 mount and a high quality lightweight refractor. A nice combination. Should make for some pretty decent observation/astrophotography :-)

I have a 12" DarkStar Newton on a EQ-6 myself. I need a new dovetailsystem so I haven't actually tried it yet but I hope the EQ-6 can support it, if only for visual use. If not, I'll be forced to look for an even beefier mount but those cost big, big dollars I'm afraid. Have fun with your telescope!

  • Wow, a real big gun....:O

  • Not really, this is the cheap end of the market. I could easily spend US 22k on a Ritchey Chretien 12.5" OTA (optical tube assembly), and then another US 12k on a AP1200 GTO mount. Then start adding accessories...it's a very expensive hobby, or can be for the high end stuff. My next purchase will probably be a 4" Takahashi refractor, around AU 5k or so. After that, it's mount saving time, either the AP900 or AP1200, probably the latter.

  • It's a 100mm SkyWatcher Equinox ED100 OTA (semi APO). It doesn't quite have the aperture of your OTA, but the build quality is better. A very nice 10:1 Crayford focuser, tube rotation for the eyepiece section (very handy for recomposing shots), very nice optical quality. I see little, if any fringing, even around bright objects, and only slight artifacts when OOF. Seems to perform well at higher magnifications too (higher than it should). Viewed Saturn at near 400x the other night!

  • The best! :-) I have SW 120/1000 refraktor and EQ5 mechanik. What kind of telescope is this? APO?
