You know, it is really sad when a performer the caliber of Tony Bennett gives you advice and the performer is too arrogant to accept it. Bennett remarked that the song was "pre-rap." The point of that observation was "slow the tempo down" Instead, he ignored the advice, botched the words, and was flat on some notes and too sharp on others. He has a nice voice, but when his focus in most of his songs is "beat-boxing," the outcome is predictable. No wonder he came in 2nd. ARROGANCE PERSONIFIED.
Blake: TOO young, TOO arrogant..ok..maybe IGNORANT is a better choice of a word to use here. His loss for not taking a valid suggestion from Tony Bennett. (slow it down and figure out what it's about). This song is out of Blakes league. minus 5 stars.
I enjoyed this version better than Clay Aiken's (though no one beats Mack the Knife, not even any performer I've seen in "The Threepenny Opera", the musical this is originally from). I felt like this version showcased the swing element more, Clay Aiken's seemed very much like someone trying to sing a style they can't really pull off. Having a great voice doesn't mean you can sing every style well.
I totally agree. Clay did seem like he was trying to sing and doing so too hard. Blake seemed natural, and that is so gangster-like. Showy, cool, and edgey with an old time smoothness.

He literally ruined the song.. forget about how hot and talented he is with his beatboxing.. just listen to his interpretation of the song, just a mess..
I get what Tony Bennett tried to say.. understand the song.. he is focusing on his performance.. neglecting the most important thing.. Clay Aiken sang this song brilliantly.
Classic! And listen to the old dude, Mr. Bennett. I think he knows a thing or 2. I believe Blake did a KNOCK-OUT job with this one as well. This boy can Swing/Sing anything! Bless his heart.
i actually thought this was one of blakes best performances. It kept to the true nature of the song while still keeping it young and fresh. He also has good vocals in this one, its a good choice for his type of voice.. [which is partly why i think his version is better than clay's version. clay has such a different voice that i dont think fits the song as well.]
This boy can sing anything and GREAT at that! Voice is top quality, interpretation excellent, confidence and performance just fabulous...and kinda cute as well. He could go..all...the...WAY!!

That "old guy" is Tony Bennett, one of the most legendary singers in the history of American music.

X2
At least there is one of other 80's baby besides myself who appreciates legendary American performers.
Music is what it is today because of people like Tony Bennett.
There is amazing music out there for everyone to listen to but younger people just know it as "Old Music", they are missing out.

You shouldn't stereotype. I am what you would call "A Younger Person" and I am the biggest Bobby Darin fan you'll ever meet.
