Gulf I was not an unmitigated a disaster for us in the SHORT TERM as Gulf II has been, but it certainly was not "smart" in the long term, being a factor contributing to ObL's fatwa vs. US.

well the goal of the first Gulf War was to force Iraq out of Kuwait, Which was accomplish along with forcing Sadam to give up his arsenal of Biological/Nuclear weapons. So it did work. These body counts are simply not accurate. We've seen periods recently where over 4000 Iraqi civilians were dying a month in the post-war (the war being March to May 2003) period. International estimates range from 300,000 to 750,000 civilian deaths with many more wounded and displaced. The death rate was no where near that level at any point in Iraq's history prior to 2003.

Also, before invading Kuwait which used to belong to Iraq, Saddam went to see then US Ambassador to Iraq April Glaspie and told her about his idea. She said the US wouldn't interfere, so Saddam thought he got an OK from the US and went ahead. But as soon as he went into Kuwait, Papa Bush turned around and started calling him evil. And so many years later, so many Americans don't know any of these. No wonder why you guys think Obama is all right.
