i won't be posting another comment on here. this is a waste of time. arguing on youtube will not amount to anything. i will not change your mind and you will not change mine. that's the truth.
this is why i hate debates...they don't amount to anything. lol
i've listened to your argument. i think that if you can think of a better and maybe more efficient way to help people.. go for it. seriously, i mean it.
when you do the famine you aren't saying you know what it's like to be starving. you don't eat for thirty hours and it gets you thinking.. if i can hardly do this for 30 hours.. what is it like to starve for a much longer time period. i think that at the point these people are at. they don't care whos giving them the food, if we are helping them. i think thats what matters. we are just trying to help and raise money. what kind of person doesn't want that?
But I don't see why you have to deny yourself food that so many others would be thankful for the opportunity to have. Why can't you just give food? You don't really need to starve yourself in order to realize that it sucks to have no food, so why waste such a resource? It sounds like something people do because it makes them feel better about themselves, not because they really care.
the point is that others pledge money for you to do this, like running a marathon or anything else people do to raise money. It's not just to starve; it's to help others.
Well, I think it is so that you can be given a taste (haha I didn't mean to do that) of what it is like for them not to have food, and if you just give them food, it will only help them for a day, but if you give them money to grow their own resources, you can help them for a lifetime. And as for what you said about making people feel better about themselves, I don't really get that. Sure, some people don't really care, but the people that actually make an effort to help, they usually care.
I can't think of a worse insult to starving people then to do something this rediculous. Seriously, we are fortunate enough to have ready access to food, and if I were starving, I would be pretty pissed off if some rich bastards were intentionally wasting that resource and then turning around and saying they know what it's like to be starving. Fuck that shit.
That's what I've tried to do over and over but these people are so obsessed with their visions of themselves as martyrs that they don't care to listen. For the last time, I think it's ridiculous because it devotes way too much time and energy into a corny game when that energy could be used to help poor people in other countries more directly. It's ridiculous because whatever point the "famine" tries to prove does nothing for people who really are starving except trivialize their problems.
people not eating for 30 hours is NOT wasting resources. It's just something to do to show that they're committed to what they're doing, and to get them thinking about what it might be like. When you do the 30 hour famine, it's NOT like saying you know how it is to be starving for your entire life. And I think that if you were starving, you would be pretty happy if some "rich bastards," as you said, decided to help you and your community by giving you food, clean water, and education resources.
the 30 hour Famine is a program runned by schools where kids spent 30 hours without eating, staying at school, in respect for the people who suffer real famines. At the end, they have a feast, then everyone eats, and it's like a party. And months before that, every child, or teenager, anyone who is taking part on the 30 hour Famine collect money from friends, neighbours, family members, anyone they know, gathering together a lot in the end.
