Transhumanism is an ever more approaching reality. This is probably going to become accepted by the mainstream medical community in less than two decades.
if only the body had some natural way to sense temperature. However I find the fingerplant implants very cool, even though only a small minority of people would actually find them useful. However The southpaw look amazing, but again, why implant something in the skin that you can easily carry around.
For all the folks who ask about whether it's single or not, sod off. It doesn't even enjoy being called 'she' and it has a partner. If you are interested in it or its science, just check out its blog. It's in the video.
"Normal people are stupid." Yeah, normal people who don't cut themselves to fuck and shove things under their skin are stupid. Regardless of the irony of that particular comment, interesting watch, not going to be trying it myself but still great.
She's amazing. Huge respect to her. I'd like a neodymium magnet but I wouldn't go as far as doing it by myself. If you're sitting down holding a knife and you pass out you could very well drop it in your inguinal area and cut open your femoral artery. Plus I'm more of a physical person than she seems to be, I lift weights and do various sports, and one heavy deadlift could rip out a badly placed implant...
these things will be the future butter on the bread of plastic surgery. progress? i actually don't think so. it seems more like a reflex out of boredom in a de-sensualized world gaining for substitution of the lost. since we downsize the sensations via compression of audio and video and destroy our natural given senses like eyes and ears with the gadgets we seem to hunger for biosensations.
@STuRMBR1NGER I don't understand where you get that boredom and de-sensualized whatnots. You think that when blind person sees or deaf person hears for the first time, that their other senses are somehow diminished by that? There are myriads of new ways how sense natural world, the thing is we will be no longer limited by our evolutionary past, extending our abilities through technology is what our species is about :)
@KronosDeret i never would accept the limitation of her personal freedom but i dont see any blind man in that speach. i do understand her curiosity though. even if i doubt that something other happens than new products finding way into the body. this will be exploited until your idealism will be burried under pricetags. in my opinion these implants are as exciting to her as growth hormones are for bodybuilders. or silicontits for whomever. and as reasonable as these.
@STuRMBR1NGER I see your point. Implants will be the same part of fashion, misuse and daily life as any other gizmo. Silicon boobs and growth hormones doesn't spark that same curiosity as would the ability to see other wavelengths of light, or feeling mag. fields do for me. Really strange world awaits us, for better and worse I'm sure. Tech is always overused and misused, doesn't mean it cant be used rationally. But there is no real conflict here, no one is forced into this (so far :) )
@KronosDeret ...thanks, that is exactly what i meant. what the mag field sensitive neodynium is for you was for arnold the schwarzenegger his dosis of muscle growing hormones. instead of physics he used biochemics to upgrade his funware. the human body is one of the oldest subjects to experiments, our species does that. "no pain no gain" is sure not lephts invention although she lives this "philosophy" and takes it to a new level.
@KronosDeret being forced? like in pointing a gun on someone? maybe not. but then again... marketing knowhow to trigger the potential customers fears of falling behind to generate sales... THAT will do the soft forcing.
@STuRMBR1NGER people are so similar in their unconscious, promise them happiness, lots of sexual partners and prosperity and they will follow. I have almost no doubt biotech, neural implants and physical extensions will be marketed the same way everything else is. In Google's polls almost 12% responders told that they would accept direct internet link into their brain (off-course with safety precautions). And home robots of course, bigger business than automobile industry in next ten years.
@STuRMBR1NGER I would almost say, that the whole culture is soft forced on all of us. Standards, morals, good and bad, stories, mythology, faith and hope. What you should be, what you should look like. Being different is always regarded somehow bad. But Im still rational optimist looking forward with healthy amount of anxiety. :)
@KronosDeret thanks for your feedback, specially for the confession concerning a healthy amount of fear. i guess that we look from the same perspective at the phenomenons that confront us with the barriers that need to be taken down. we also seem to expect the same future SNAFU results. and i must confess my envy is stimulated by those who do go further and play their evolutionary part. i hope you will drop some documentation of the steps you obviously are willing to take.
@STuRMBR1NGER Well if you are really interested, I can share my visions. Most normal people would regard them as kinda crazy (possibly) but I guess its expected when talking about future (most people think world is gonna stay the same for some reason). When I was younger I found Shadowrun, with my schoolmates and friends we used to play this PnP RPG for fun, we imagined world run by megacorporations and shadowrunners, cybeware and magic. Firefights in the ghettos between gangs and private police
@STuRMBR1NGER nowadays we are playing it again, and all of us are aware that its no longer a fantasy. Obviously not that reawaken Magic part :D, but everything else... military drones, paramilitary units, Megacorps running states (Halliburton "wink wink") and without prior arrangement our new avatars were all alternate versions of us, few years in the future. We all saw this bleak and amazing future happening. So when Im describing my alterego shadowrunner, ill describe a vision of me, ok?
@STuRMBR1NGER Im studying electroengeneering, control and sensors. Im heading for drones. I think it would be possible to have direct link between drone sensors and my visual and hearing cortex, and to control drone as my alternate body. Replacement eyes, memory extension, math coprocesor and improved manual skill. Direct acces to knowledge and tech databases, heavily firewalled internet link. Such a character is called drone rigger.
@STuRMBR1NGER and when two of my main sensory inputs can be switched to artificial signals, I would probably go for the rest... to be able to experiance other realities. After that? Who knows... thats why its called singularity, when real strong AI hits us in this state when we no longer feel the connection to our old bodies its all up in the cards... but one thing is certain, I want to see distant stars and worlds. :) Crazy right?
@KronosDeret it is ok to widen the horizon so i am truely thankful for you sharing your view. and i have read too much philip k. d. and asimov to think you are crazy. but as far as i am concerned i do think that my body is not only the container of my ego-illusion. it is the ultimate biocomputer an it is already connected to the megaserver called earth which supports also our species. (1)
@STuRMBR1NGER connected as in you came from it? that you replenish you matter from it? not trying to belittle your thoughts but I'm not aware of any connection if there is any. Not saying its impossible, hell nature uses quantum entanglement in photosynthesis, maybe the biosphere is really communicating with all its parts somehow, from the beginning when all life was very similar. how can I know that its true?
@KronosDeret (2) and that body has already an optoelectric interface working good enough to receive pictures off the screen. again, i do understand that your view is a transcendent view on evolution leading to a result that defines human beings as the future intra-prosthesis god. but i do not believe that our knowledge of yet relatively simple circuits will create a more sensational world.
@STuRMBR1NGER oh and I don't think evolution has some distinct goal. From all nature it seems more like random discovery of mathematical space that works as biochemical machinery able to survive and multiply. The fact we created myths and God and that we also are creating thinking machines (not 100 % sure about that ) which possible capabilities we would call Godly maybe coincidence ... its possible this happens all the time in the vastness of the universe, maybe they are waiting for us :)
@KronosDeret (3) i dont see a reason to ruin my ole wreck of a body to share the footage of lockheeds or hitachis latest toys. we have invented hollywood for that and HD screens. but what i am interested in is the change of human populations dispositions. because the interface won't delete the mamal in us :)) and it is that mamal that makes us enjoy life and its toys. be careful how you traumatize that mamal. because that will change behaviours.
@STuRMBR1NGER I would also see no value in changing humans into totally logical beings of pure math. I like my primate side, the feeling of fulfillment, love, desire, amazement. I don't want to lose ability to feel emotions both good and horrible, because they define me the same as my dreams and rituals. I think we will incorporate new capabilities and senses into our personalities. I mean if you ave a smart-phone on you, your mind has external extension, do you loose something?
@KronosDeret the answer to the mobile gadget is: yes, i do loose something, namely my inaccesibility and privacy. i am completely traceble with it. i loose personal souvereignitiy. because if you are traceble the difference between freedom and animal husbandry disappears. in a world were the chains are replaced by wavelenghts inaccessibility is freedom. and that is the reason why i really hate mobile phones. they turn humans into accessible dogs.
@STuRMBR1NGER I understand your point. So do you think it would be possible for lots of different people with different values and stances to live together? Or at least like separate but not interviening communities? Like Amish for example...
@KronosDeret did i really make an antitechnological fundamentalist impression? i do believe in diversity. being muslim or african or amish or japanese was never reason for warsized unfriendly interventions. it was maybe subject of propaganda like in HATE THE group/population/religion X. but the true reason for unfriendly transcultural interventions were of economical nature. always. the BS about "hatecrime" would not exist if there were enough jobs.
@STuRMBR1NGER No you didnt, I know there are perfectly rational people with different less optimistic relationship with technology and that is perfectly ok. And I agree that we sruggle with our lowly origin day by day, we often attack and kill each other just because we irrationally fear difference as preemptive measure (just horrible). I just think that every tech revolution changed sligtly the way we view each other that we subtly understand each other better. I may be wrong...
@KronosDeret to be more accurate in expressing my vision: the protocols we use need to be updated. what we understand under "profit" "organisation" "WE" needs to be corrected. but still humanity acts like a bunch of more or less equiped aggressive jungle apes. and the ones that are equiped believe in their superiority. we never did let go of these behavior patterns. we only modified them with our equipment. do you believe sensing mag waves will change that?
@STuRMBR1NGER And as for the protocols or standarts... yes they will have to be updated, when the deffinition of what we recognize as human or person or even sentient being will change, there will be new rights movements and bigots, new demonization... I tend to be hopefull, as we learn through our mistakes. But what can one person do other than be kind and respectfull to others, or at least not be a complete dick.
@KronosDeret on a global level? not to be a dick would totally relax the planet and lifeforms within. even if "only humans" would practise. being kind and respectful would even create a totally new game of life. that would enable humanity to solve real problems because a lot of energy yet "lost" through the friction of stupidity and arrogance would be accessible. and planet earth would be a happy spaceship. btw..thank you for the nice words. i also enjoy the rap.
@STuRMBR1NGER I have hard time believing wars are mostly for economic reasons. Maybe there are started nowadays and before as way of gaining power of whatever oligarchy or king is in power, but common man, soldier, platoon doesnt gain ability to kill other human being because of money. There some very dark spots in human soul.
@KronosDeret :) i guess the dark spots are not so dark. since beginning of last century the unconcious and the more simple behaviorpatterns of hairy primate history are very much analized. neurology also delivered a lot of information about the chains of cause and effect for violence.
@KronosDeret and i believe what really is dark is the forcing of technologies in fields that should be free from it, f.e. patent driven genetically modification in agriculture and food industry. the rest of "darkness" can be illuminated thru less authoritarian and financedriven protocols. i think we are pretty uncomplicated in terms of behaviors. what we eat or drink influences us more than what we believe or not.
@KronosDeret don't get me wrong, i am not against anything she does. and i do not critisize her personally. she proves courage. no need to mention that. but the optimism of your view i can't share. and since prosthesis production and research (specially high end elements for eyes and ears) did exist long before she started any experiment i am pretty sure that this industry is inspired by her performance and start monitoring her in terms of her as a self funding guinea pig.
dont have stomach for doing that myself, also have low pain threshold, I have to wait for standart procedures and profesional upgrade company with trained personel and painkiller. Other than that, more power to you girl, and please dont kill yourself :)
@KronosDeret I don't have much tolerance for pain either. But where i'm from body artists and people in medicine are highly susceptible to bribery. I'm sure I can get a professional to do it. If that proves to be too expensive i'll bribe them into giving me local anesthetic. ;)
@sebrporte Im kinda on an edge here. I can see the benefit of having more senses, definitely, I just think its a matter of not so long time before you can go to some semi-legal body-ware shop and have the "luxury" of selecting some high quality (maybe even semiprofessional hacker-grade) implants with some kind of reassurance of tested bioproofing, anesthetics and basic medical training. Its gonna be a huge business for sure so why not wait for not-orange-peeler and vodka approach?
@sebrporte exactly my point, even thou I can see that aside main street Cyberware saloons there will most probably be people like this crazy fascinating girl doing it all kitchen style... Im just getting used to the idea of implants and this girl is cutting herself like nothings happening. Either way her view of RFID chips really calmed me down, if its so easily hacked and cloned it will probably never be used in general public or if it will we wont be completely fucked :)
@sebrporte Be careful of the toxicity of neodymium, there are many issues that can arise should it accumulate in your body when not correctly sealed.
Ensure that there is a very good silicon seal before you try this. I'm very interested in experimenting with the magnetic fields stuff, but lets do it safely for the sake of sensibility.
Fascinating concept. Professor Kevin Warwick is doing work in this area.

@KronosDeret I never said I was going to use anything short of medical-grade equipment. Might even have a professional do it.

This was sick! I sent her an email for step-by-steps, can't wait to try the neodymium implants for myself.
sebrporte 1 year ago
@sebrporte Be careful of the toxicity of neodymium, there are many issues that can arise should it accumulate in your body when not correctly sealed.
Ensure that there is a very good silicon seal before you try this. I'm very interested in experimenting with the magnetic fields stuff, but lets do it safely for the sake of sensibility.

@Chronodynamic I'm aware of the dangers associated with implanted neodymium. I'll do my best to have it sealed.
