As beautiful as this sounds the version by OCMS and Emmy-Lou blows it away. You can hear and feel the hurt and pain in the lyrics. Reminds me of "come pick me up" by another fave of mine, Mr. Ryan Adams.

I am a huge fan of OCMS and Nora Jones. I am not sure if i have ever heard a more beautiful song..Rachel Loshak voilin is mesmerizing..and what the heck, Nora could be wearing burlap...and i'd be mesmerized.

@trishamcduffie43 I don't think Norah's version of this song has ever been released on CD, but she does have an new compilation CD coming out this month called "Featuring" which includes songs Norah has recorded with a variety of other musicians including Sean Bones, Gillian Welch, Herbie Hancock, Q-Tip...18 in all.

The one I used to use shut down due to a lack of resources to keep their web hosting up, but try a google search! I have a couple live versions/unusual version like this from that on my computer. Thanks for posing this. I admired it on the fundraiser and had been looking for it a while back on YouTube but never found it till now. The arrangement and vocals are beautiful but Norah might enunciate better. I can't make out the lyrics well. Does anyone know when to find them? Also, has Norah ever recorded this or performed it again? It's a real gem.

I would not change anything about Norahs rendition she is singing not speaking.But it is hard to make out the lyric.Now I know them,have to say what what powerfull lyrics they are.Like alot of poetry it speaks direct to the soul which understands even if you dont. Ketch Sekor and Willie Watson wrote this song. Willie sings lead, with Ketch on harmony, and doing one of the most beautiful harmonica interludes I have ever heard. Norah does a very nice job, but it will always be a OCMS song to me.

And, it is Willie who sings it - it says so inside the album, plus, he does the vocals whenever I've seen them live (3 times now).

You know, I thought it was Ketch for the longest time, but since that comment now I realize it is Willie singing. Ketch Secor does do lead vocals on many of the songs though - and when I saw them live he did about a third of the songs.

Norah is awesome but I don't think her voice is "tortured" enough for the song. Whoever sings it on OCMS (Keith probably, definitely not Willie) sounds like he's been through it all. Norah just kinda makes the song a little to happy. Just my opinion though.

I love the OCMS version and I agree that Norah doesn't have a tortured voice. But the lack of torture doesn't bother me because I think her tone is relateable, reflective of the average life experience. Not everyone is tortured, doesn't mean we don't suffer hard times. And I think her interpretation is meant to sound hopeful - this performance was given in the spirit of recovery - making her tone all the more appropriate.

I could be mistaken about Rachel. Just second hand info I'm passing along. Although as I understand it, in addition to playing bass, she's an accomplished violinist. There's also a picture on her website of her playing the violin as a child. If someone knows definitively, please post. Would be nice to give proper credit.
