  • I was so fortunate to work 9yrs. as a stage tech. in the Las Vegas Hilton main showroom where I worked 2 performances nightly, 12 shows in a 6 day week. In the late 70's & early 80's Lou Rawls played 2 week engagements 3 times a year. His shows were identical in song running order, & even his banter with the audience. But we all looked forward to his 2 wk runs, Also the fantastic Hiton 44 piece orchestra backed him. We would say, "It Sure Beats Working for a Living" .... Good Times !

  • Dasme47mate. A minute ago

Baby, your are what makes me happy. You are my one and only "Lady Love"!

    Troy!

  • Lou Rawls was kind enough to call my father when he was very very ill. Mr. Rawls was working on the Don King story for HBO at that time and was kind enough to call my father. My dad nearly jumped through the phone! It was awesome. I grew listening to you in the 60s and 70s. The world has lost a gem of a human being. Talk about class. Lou Rawls is second to none. RIP Lou!

  • And the Rawlettes are fine too!

  • I always will remembered Lou Rawls as

the Gentleman of the Songs, I'll never

heard a Girl from Ipanema or the Shadow

of your Smile as he sung those, God

  • Does'nt get smoother than this!

  • I grew up in the 70s listening to this with my mom. This was when men were really men! They dressed like men, smelled like men, and acted like men, and treated women with respect. All the guys back then Lou, Isaac, Teddy, Larry; they weren't real good looking but they had that manly sex appeal. You knew they were grown ass men from the jump and all of them looked like they were either somebody's dad or uncle but you knew they were grown up men! I can respect that and bring it back today!

  • Lou's voice is to the ear what a fine pair of italian leather shoes are to the feet.......I love this tune!!!

    Ms. October, chicago

  • When I was a child I heard this guy and couldn`t help to buy his records, his wonderful voice and swing was so special that even a child could tell he had something... A hell of a singer, RIP.

  • Back in 1977 when this song came out, they played it on 'American Bandstand' during the traditional spotlight dance.

  • Like Marvin Gaye and later, Teddy Pendergrass, he was powerful male vocalist.

  • @memyself2k

The good sure die young, but their music will last forever

  • I met him after one of his shows back in '97. He was very nice and took time to sign autographs for all us fans. RIP

  • That's something I like about artists like him.

  • This is my very favorite Lou Rawls song ... a great singer!

  • What a great song, what year was this video made???

  • This is a great song.

  • Timeless.

  • I loved this song.I use to hear all the time on classic radio channel. Eventhough I was born in the 80s I just can't get enough of the music from the 60s N 70s.The music was great, the artist put their love into it.They didn't just rush to put out garbage just to make a fast buck.I don't even listen to the radio anymore unless its playing the music of yester-years.Lou Rawls was truly an amazing talent. I loved his music N will always be a fan. RIP Mr. Rawls and thanks for your beautiful songs.

  • One of my favorite songs.. ohh.. the 70's...

    Vivian.

  • Beautiful song indeed.

  • What an entertainer, and nothing but hits. God must really be enjoying his music up there.

  • We miss you Cool Breeze

  • I love this song! I remember the last time I saw him perform, he sang the national anthem in the World Series at US Celular Field in Chicago in '05. He will be truely missed.

  • R.I.P . LOU RAWLS GOD bless you people still love your music you still livin' in our heart

  • A great performer with a fantastic voice! I saw him twice in the 70s, (my aunt was a fan), and both times he put on a excellent show. Nice voice and personality! A real entertainer.

  • is he still alive ?

    Great voice +5

  • No, he passed a few years ago.

  • Chicago's very own! The gawd, Lou Rawls! RIP!

  • Quest'uomo é un mito ed ha classe da vendere ed una voce stupenda !!!!

  • Greatly missed.

  • WOW HE IS A GOOD PERFORMER LOU RAWLS LADY LOVE.I GONNA SING THIS SONG EVERY NIGHT IN MY SHOW.(SIMPLEX BAND)from philippines

  • He was an incredible performer.

  • Lou Rawls and Paul Williams had the best voices to me.

That's Paul Williams from the Temptations.

  • Paul was underrated as a lead singer. And what happened was tragic.

  • I think the best way to describe Lou's voice is "rich". Just a wonderful blend of full, round sounds, subtle, deep, unmistakenly masculine and macho. Not to mention smooth as silk -- gentle yet authoritative. Just marvelous. He makes Michael Buble look like Mr. Ed. What a talent -- really miss him. Wonder if he was ever aware how blessed he was to have a voice (and sound) like that?

  • I agree with you. A rich voice is a perfect way to discribe his voice. I would also add powerful and smooth.

  • That's what's up.

  • My mum remembers the 70's. From what she says about it, they were just great times! The music, night clubs (live music, not crappy rave tunes!), and great people.

  • Lou Rawls is my all time favourite, I love his music, the way he uses his voice, manipulates the tones, a beatiful singer, the best crooner since ...Bing Crosby, Paul Robson ?

  • What a voice and so underrated. Brilliant.

  • Well Lou's voice sounds awesome here; I listened to his newer tunes and seems like he has lost some of his great voice...still one of the all time greats...

  • Thank you for the post. This brings back alot of memories. I first saw Lou when I was an undergraduate student at the University of Nevada-Reno back in the early 1980s. I worked part time at Harrah's hotel as "runner" in their theatre. I had the great fortune of working one of his shows as Lou was in town for a two-week stay during the winter. Cold, Snowy weather notwithstanding, he sold out every show. I even got a chance to meet him as well. What a classy human being. R.I.P. Lou.

  • You're welcome. The man had a lot of class.

  • This was so awesome! If you look up smooth in the dictionary his picture is beside the definition. This is also one of my all tome favorite R&B songs from an amazing singer. Thank you so much for posting such a classic clip (:+] >
