Very nicely put. I, as an American trained privately under the order of geneaology: Yip Man/Kai Sai/Casey/Graves/Myself, learned that the term Wushu in our common vernacular states more assuredly as something "MARTIAL" while gong fu is more my lifestyle, as a man trying to always be his best at ALL he does INCLUDING my personal defense through the boxing. Is this correct within the parameters of the Chinese thought? Reason I put my lineage is to easier separate from "americanized" kung fu or MA.

Gongfu may not be ideal for fighting in the current age and it may have begun as more of a health and exercise program (a contested theory among leading experts, however) than a fighting style, but it was indeed used in battle when they were threatened. No question of that.

It may seem wasteful to you, but you need to keep in mind that this video and many current competitions and demonstrations are all about showmanship and not about life and death combat.

Wushu competitions are only graded by choreography and forms because wushu is a lethal study, if they were to actually fight each other in a competition one of them would be dead within 60 seconds, and Im sure the judges don't want that on their hands. Regardless to what you think you know or I don't know wushu is one of the most effective martial arts in the world today.
