LOVE THIS COMMERCIAL!! He is correct, beats being tied to a desk all day long! I consider my "desk" 1,200 FT off the ground! Thanks for sharing this video! Love it! I'm dedicating this to ALL of my fellow tower climbers!
@sombersolitude i used to work on mc donalds drive through and someone from that company liked my attitude so they offered me that job. I dont really know how u get in but i do know that they are most likely to only hire guys with experience. all my coworkers tell me i was lucky to get in cause i had no experience.
That Ladder inside the Tower You speak of is not a Ladder at all it is a Cable Support Fixture. It is called a Cable Ladder though. I do not know where you get off calling this Fake. I have been climbing towers since 1969, Yes that is 42 count them 42 Years and I have a set of Nextel antennas on a Broadcast tower identical to this one. So I do not see what makes you say this is FAKE!
I climb every day. I know this is fake but who cares. Not many people even look up at the towers and appreciate the work we do. I like the end because I do love my job. Be safe guys.
Radio masts and electricity pylons used to be built by men who didn't have a hard hat, harness, safety belt, steel toe cap boots, wirers to clip onto, ladders, cradles, cranes and all the rest of the junk you use today.
Ha ha and yes proffesional tower climbers may lean back like that as I am one but climbing the outside instead of the ladder is fine even but there should be one of three things done double clip safetys all the way cable climb apparatus or safety rope and the ladder probably has the cable climb on it
A professional tower climber would never lean back like that. OSHA probably gave Coca-Cola a very hard time about encouraging people to do that, so I bet that is why it didn't last very long on TV.
I saw it in here Fla a few tears back, on cable? Anyway, had VCR ready for it, never saw it again. TNX for the post! 19,115 views here. Maybe more than the TV viewers racked up.
Look closely, there are 3 different towers. At the top where they uncork their cokes they're on a different tower. No candelabra or antennas. The 2 final shots show the transmitter tower from a helo, and 2 towers with nothing but them on top .. The lighting in the drinking scene appears studio with a photo backdrop. Audio definitely a V/O, These actors were on a short tower on a sound stage, and probably never went more than 100 feet on the real one. Also, there's ladders!
OOPS! The tower they are on in the end shot is actually 1 of 2 towers on top of the main tower. These top towers are used for antenna mounts. Also on the diagonal above the rookie's left shoulder(he's looking at the Coke bottle) is a blacked area. Possible lightning blast damage. These tall boys take some big hits.
Hi DEHazle, Thanks for saying HI. That was a great job and yes I was bummed that it didn't air more, especially with all the great comments here about how much people loved the commercial. It did air in the movie theatres for a short while and in supermarkets. Perhaps we could campaign to Coke to air this one again as it never got it's proper due. I think it's great. All my best - Little John"The Rookie" in the commercial
Hey my hat is off to Big John and Little John as I know them, I am the Chief Engineer for this tower they did the shoot on and I was there the whole week for the shoot. They did go to the 1000' platform to shoot the climbing scenes and yes there was some movie magic for some. The two guys at the very end are real Tower Climbers but we don't refer to real climbers as tower dogs.
Hi all, This is a commercial that I was in. I play the rookie. We shot on a 2000ft plus tower in Decanatur(spelling?), Texas. The tower does have two candalabra mini towers at the top. It was an amazing job. Hanging on the outside of that tower blew me away and gave me a lot of respect for all the people that climb them for a living. Best to all, Actor John Fortson
Hi John, I am the Cheif Engineer that was there on the shoot with you for the week from the Radio station that owned the tower at that time, I am still the Chief but it is all owned by a new company. It is a shame this commercial was never ran alot, this is the only place I've seen it.
ok so its definatly 2 different towers and there is a ladder they would normally climb in the one, outside that,God i love this add.we tower guys never seem to get any attention and im happy to see it.
For us tower dogs is easy to discover all the little details of the editing of the vid, aside from that, this tv commercial is a tribute to all of us that work upthere to bring to all of those couch potatoes TV, Internet, Cellular telephony etc. CLIMB ON :D
Yes you are totally right ! we get no credit ! Just the conspiracy people that believe that cancer is transmitted to them by the towers but still talk on cell phones . Climb on ..............
Usually TV antennas are mount at top on poles and FM antennas on the side just below. In fact at one point 27-sec in you can see a FM antenna on the side.
I wonder why they didn't use the ladder? You can see the ladder once or twice.
Look at the top of the tower carefully, each time it's shown. I think they are filming two different towers.
Wonder how they erased the lanyards from each climbers harness to the tower?
And the experienced guy first to top clips on to a piece of the tower with a rebar hook, then later the video shows him with a strap wrapped around a leg...not the rebar hook.
I think it's two different towers too. One that is complete with coax lines running up and one that is still under construction and just has static dissipators at the top.
That's my Uncle!

Search youtube for "chris double malfunction"
I think this one even gives skydivers major pucker factor.
Lousy quality, much better over at skydivingmovies, and the w's in front and the com on the end.
