  • oh this is the interlocking method

  • @Futurempmw no, it's not. i don't interlock my hair, i just retwist the roots. interlocking is when you thread the end of the loc through the root. do a YT search and you can see how it's done.

  • OMG Luv Luv Luv you, thank you so much for helping me, cuz my biggest problem are my baby hair....lol. I just always try to twist the baby hair in with my locs whenever i wash my locs and hope that they will combine lol. this method will for sure help me to maintain the baby hair.

  • i know this is off topic but u r really pretty :-)

  • Hey Chesca, I ordered the same oil....I confused, I thought u had to leave it in over night and then wash it out the next day

  • @Tiphany757 if you have Caucasian hair then you'll need to wash it out. but on African American textured hair you can leave it in because out hair is naturally dry and will just absorb the oil

  • I don't know if anyone's said this, as I haven't read the comments, but could it be that rubbing/massaging the hairline has stimulated root growth - and not the castor oil? Just asking... Good job, though.

  • @dillydalian no, castor oil is a natural remedy that has been used for a variety of things including hair loss and muscle soreness. i'm sure massaging helps in some small way, but the oil is what's really doing the job

  • You shouldn't try to twist the new hair to soon you could damage the follicles.

  • Cool. That can really help my hair grow, as long as I don't use too much.

  • I also use the Jamaican Black Castor oil and I've seen a vast difference in my hair line. A loctician recommended it to me because I have very thin hair lines.....I've been using it for the past 3mths and it really, really works......I can testify.....lol..... Great video....

  • @MsReddwine nice! I just made an update to this video to show my progress after using it for a full year. it really does work, which is so refreshing because so many products claim to help grow hair an really don't

  • Great video! Thanks for sharing your progress.

  • @Kbonns thanks! I just did an update to show my progress since last year

  • u have nice skin

  • hey wat is that thing on ur chest?

  • @XxNoLoveGirlxX it's a piercing

  • I'm nine months in on my second set of locs. I have eczema in my scalp and theres two locs at my hair line that are having issues locing. The only thing that helps these two stay put is beeswax. I don't have an issue using it on just two locs. Because of my scalp I can't use alot of different things. Thanks for any help you can give me.

  • @MrsPickle626 please don't use beeswax! wax traps in dirt and moisture and can lead to smelly, moldy locs. are those 2 loc'd at all? are you trying to combine them?

  • WHOOOAH!! THE HAIR LINE! WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT!! Why am I JUST seeing ur videos?? omg! (listen, dont freak out when i say this, but.. *come closer*.. ((((((I LOVE U ALREADY!!!!)))))))

  • @mizG1nonly haa! you're adorable! i'm doing a follow up video later this week :)

  • HI there, I'm going to buy this for myself and my locks...I got some breakage and thinning after having my babies.

Hey, do you think that the Black castor oil is ok to use on a 1 year old? My daughter has some thinning around her temple and is forming slightly visible ring around the back of her head??

  • @funred55 not sure about using this on babies. sorry i can't offer any advice. i'd consult your pediatrician

  • I was just checking out the video statistics for people all over the world who've watched this vid. That one little dot of gray on the south west coast of australia? THAT'S ME, GUURL! lol 8oD

  • Can you email me or inbox me the name of that product if you don't mind. Ok i see it in the info box

  • @cherrypops3 :) FYI always check the video description box on my videos. i always put any additional info there

  • Can you email me or inbox me the name of that product if you don't mind.

  • Thank u for the info

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • Are you still using the Jamaican Black Castor Oil? I was thinking about getting it for my mom, her hair line thinned out after a stylist braided the edges to tight.

  • oooh your cute, thx for vid

  • Not trying to be insensitive or anything, just a general question, is the castor oil specifically for your hair type or can it be used by Caucasian hair too? Very helpful btw, Ive never heard of castor oil to promote hair growth :)

  • @MorganRae18 thanks for being cautious with your question, but i don't think it's insensitive at all. i actually don't know anything about using this product on Caucasian hair. my knowledge is based on my personal experience, and that of others that have shared their results with me. i'd suggest doing some research online and perhaps giving it a try on your own. i don't see how using the product will hurt your hair. if you try it out please take before and after photos and share them with me!

  • @chescaleigh I shall do! Thank you for the info :) How much was the product btw?

  • @MorganRae18 not sure of the exact price. but there's a link to the website in the video description box

  • @chescaleigh Thank you :)

  • @chescaleigh Thank you :)

  • Hi Francesca.. LOOOOVE your vids and your graphic design work. Saw your article in Loc'd Life mag and checked out your site/blog. You are an inspiration of success in many areas! Continue! :D Saw this vid there and since you did it in Dec '10, wondered if you could post an update since it's been about 5-6 months post. Thanks again for your amazing vids and work! Be blessed :D

  • @musictoliveby08 aw thanks! i haven't done an update since this video, but i really need to. thanks for the reminder!

  • JBCO really works wonders!!! I made a mix with it and I love it!!!

  • thank god...finally sumthin ta work on my hair line thank u

  • Uh, you fine lol. If you're ever in the A...hit me up. Thanx for the advice. That is all.

  • OMG! Thank you so much for posting this video. There are so many women out here that have had their haorlines damaged because of microbraids and other hairstyles that cause women to pull at their hairlines for "neatness". I don't even necessarily believe it's only because of the tension, but because most of us don't know how to take care of the hair. JBCO is so nice because it makes your hair soft, like you said, and makes it grow phenomenolly fast. Thanks again for the tips!

  • Love this tip! Will this hold if done a couple days before shampooing? Just trying to lighten the load on "shampoo night". Lol

  • @Seabreeze2581 probably not. give it a try though

  • this is an interesting technique..thanks for the tip!

  • You are such a beautiful woman.

  • @PositiveNature thank you! :)

  • You are an amazing black woman.

  • @MsTony5000 thank you so much!

  • @PositiveNature i agree...breathtaking

  • @candikking thank you :)

  • wow, that sewing the baby hairs back into the locks is really interesting...I've got alot of problems with some bits of hair(about 2 inches long) that simply REFUSE to lock in with the rest of my hair. I'm definitely gonna try that out. :) So grateful for the advice.

  • Nice!!! Thanks for sharing, I'm going to use that for my hairline because my hairline isn't nice at all ;-)

  • Can you share the link to your loc maintenance routine?

  • I soooo Love the Black Jamican Castro Oil.

    It is the Bomb diggdy:))

  • @AKIYIAKELLY Hi I want to know, I have seen a video here saying that the bjco really has a bad smell. Has that been your experience? And if so what did you do to fix it or is there a particular kind you use and where do you get it?

  • I soooo Love the Black Jamican Catro Oil.

    It is the Bomb diggdy:))

  • P.S...I pray that I can find the Jamaican Black castor oil locally..=)

  • Hello Chescalocs! Do you follow a ritual "every two week retwist" regimen? I work out six days a week so I tend to go four weeks (incorporate sponge rollers in between to disguise new growth). Is there any tension on your scalp for retwisting every two weeks? Thank you for the advice.

  • By the way love your channels.

  • After doing some searching online I'm a little confused as to weather you have to wash it out. And I"ve read about being careful not to get it in your hair which I don't understand because it obviously will. Do you wash it out after? If so is it hard to wash out? Any buildup?

  • @afronique no, i don't wash the product out after applying it to my hair. but i wash my hair every 2 weeks. i've been using it for about 7 months and haven't experienced any build up. where have you read not to put castor oil in your hair? if you visit the black castor oil site, you'll see that it's sold as a haircare product.

  • @afronique and after recently speaking with a loctician that i met at an international hair show, it seems that black castor oil has been a kept secret in the black hair community for years. everyone's process is different and i'm not here to tell you what you should do with your hair. at the end of the day, i'm just sharing my experience. it's up to you to decide what's the best method for you. best of luck!

  • @chescalocs - Thanks for responding and so quickly. I just googled it and found sites that weren't necessarily for hair that say not to so I wasn't sure if maybe they were referring to Caucasian hair. So I found some people that would put it in relaxed hair but I wasn't sure if it was easy to get out of locs. Yeah on the JBCO sites they say you can use it as a hot oil treament so I wasn't sure if that meant they encourage you to always wash it out after. Thanks that helps, I'm going to try it.

  • what was the forum that you go on?????

  • @tdotstudda nappiturality

  • @chescaleigh THANK YOU SO MUCHHH.

  • Hey I have braids , my left side the hair is thinning where there is even a tiny bald spot. Do you suggest I use the black castor oil to regrow my hair in the bald spot? and to make my hairline stronger and thicker?

  • @BradBujan i think this video is a pretty clear endorsement of this product

  • Enjoy your videos. Thanks for doing them. I am a Jamaican living in the USA and also have a problem with my hairline. Black Castor Oil has been used in Jamaica for many many years especially as a hot oil treatment. I have been in search of it in my local beauty supplies stores here in the USA but to no avail. Thanks for the info as to where to get it. I know once I get it, I'll be okay. Thanks also for the trick with the sewing. great tip! Will definitely try it. All the best to you. Irie!!

  • just tried the thread method!! love it!! thank u!!! and i jus purchased the castor oil!!

  • i love to have a pretty lady teach me thank u you tube i want fail this class

  • i love to have a pretty lady teach me thank u you tube i want fail this class

  • Thank you for this. I've been using The Roots gel pomade on my hairline and it has made it grow like mad. I have been trying to figure out how to marry these little buds with my locs. I'm definitely doing this tonight!

  • this castor oil has made my edges grow and thicken, love it

  • Nice clear instructions. Thanks for showing us how to get the hairline healthy and getting the "baby hair" back in with its family lol!!!

  • WHAAAAT would we do with out you!!!? You have no idea how much you help me with my locs. Bless you!

  • @miel001 you're sweet. glad to help!

  • Thanks I can use it on my grand daughters hair !

  • Would this be a good thing for baby locs? My locs are two months and a half would this help them to thicken even more?

  • @wcc181 i can't see why not

  • @chescalocs wow this stuff is amazing it has my hair looking good and they seem to have thickened up as well..Thanks for the tip. this stuff is pretty cheap on amazon good find!

  • You are so down to earth...you always bring good information. I love the fact that you don't take credit for things that you find on YT or online..you give credit where credit is due. With so many subbers we wouldn't know if you came up with something yourself...but, you in your great personality give credit where it is due. Thank you for being you~!! Have a great day~!!

  • @queenrella77 thanks for this kind comment. it really made my day.

  • omg! I have been using this stuff for years and my bottles are always as icky as yours...there are lots of imitations out there though! I have to order mine online as well! when i first started my loc journey a west indian woman with locs down to her bum told me to try it when I expressed concern for my "kitchen area". awesome!

  • Speaking of hairlines...I've recently seen a bit about loc brushing, especially to distribute the oils through loc'd hair roots. Thoughts? Tips? Quips?

  • @dlishintucson don't know anything about loc brushing. i'll look into it

  • @TemperChild4 I am the poster child for peppermint. I've been using that since I started my locs and it has def worked for me. Im def gonna try the JCBOPmnt together because I really don't like Dr.M. Thanks so much for the suggestion!!

  • Oh my jeezy!! My hairline is the WORST!! I am def going to try this out!! I've been using Dr. Miracle and it has worked for me, but I think I'm going to give the JBCO a try and my next wash I'm def gonna thread up my needle!! I LOVE your channel!!

  • @athinkinwoman I think part of the reason DR.miracles worked is because of the menthol and cloves in it. try peppermint oil and jbco mixed. i think that would be somewhat similar.

  • I wish I had found this video before I cut all my locs off. My hair had started thinning real bad in the middle of my head and around the edges. I cut my locs to save my hair. Thank you for an amazing video.

  • wow and i have castor oil home to treat for a burn. I am def gonna use it tomorrow thanks!

  • Great product review...I did see a different in the thickness of your hairline too. My hairline is pretty thin all the way around because the texture is realllly soft and thin...I notice that it looks better after I re-twist vs. leaving it untwisted, etc. I'll see if I can find some of this in whole foods..thanks for sharing and showing your results!

  • castor oil. my mom made me drink that stuff once. yuck =P

but i think it's cool how you use it for your hair line =)

  • Thanks so much for sharing :-)

  • If you do that with a thin crochet hook and get the same results.

  • I had the same hairline problem, but I stay away from oil because of buildup. I simply twist my hair more gently at the hairline and use aloe vera gel because it evaporates and my hairline is pretty healthy now.

  • i think u can drink this stuff for a washout too! LOL. Gonna get some.

  • @ParanoiddAnddroidd thanks! i love it too! so far you're the only person that's noticed it on this video :) great eye!

  • I love your hair and your videos... i wanted to know if you think its ok to dye locks? I am seeing alot of grayin my locks and I was wondering if it would be healthy for my hair to dye it?

  • @cbluver2316 i need to do another video on this topic. personally, i stay away from dye because i've had damage from it in the past. my best suggestion would be to see a professional colorist to avoid damaging your hair.

  • something u may wanna try that i do... i know you may not be partial to interlocking but after i did the hairline maintenance with the first time, i interlocked my front row so the hair i sewed in stays in place more and i leave it alone and dont wash my hair for another two weeks so the hair stays in the lock instead of palm rolling bcz then the hair sometimes will com out faster. just a suggestion but ur hairline is lookin good. keep up with the vids girl! <3

  • @LAallnat thanks for your suggestion!

  • Where can you purchase the Jamaican black castor oil??

  • @LadyT7381 As I said in the video, I purchased mine at a beauty supply, but I also put a link in the video description box to a site where you can purchase it online.

  • OMG! Thank you! my edges and some spots in my head, the texture is really straight and it bothers me that the hair just never want to lock..but now I can get it there!! yay!! I'm new to your channel but I'm loving it. I've had my locs for about 5 years now and you're styles have been so helpful! I just did the pipe cleaner curls and I love them!

  • @njoyelife awesome! glad i could help :)

  • I like my hair nappy and not overly done at the roots. This is a good skill to have in my toolbox though if I ever wanna reeeaaallly neaten them up. I always gave you a o_O when you complained about your hairline. I don't get the whole hairline thing. Folks always tell me i have a great one. Some lady wanted to do my hair in a hair show. I never thought it was something that could be pretty (like elbows or the back of knees...they just ARE) Glad yours is coming in though! CONGRATS

  • @adihsar yeah, i guess it's just personal preference. when my hair fell out in high school i was DEVASTATED. just ask my mother, i was a complete mess. so even though it's grown significantly since then, in my head it looks a lot worse only because i remember what it was like before the damage. in the big scheme of things i know it's silly though. werk your hairline for what it's worth! you should've said yes to the hair show and requested a CHECK! lol

  • Thanks for link on where to purchase the black castor oil at I will be buying some and letting you know how it turns out.. Also I went back and looked at video ( it was 4am in the morning and I was at work. I work 3rd's ) I had another question I usually get mine loc's latched to tighten up the new growth, but it's getting pretty expensive to do sometimes so here is what I was wondering. Will that prevent me from being able to still have it latched by sewing in the baby hair?

  • @HappyNappywoman thank you for listening and checking the video description box! LOL i don't think sewing your baby hair will prevent you from getting it interlocked. i just got a comment suggesting i use interlocking with the sewing to keep the hair in place, so you should be fine. have you ever considered interlocking your own hair? there are tons of tutorials on youtube that can help you. check it out! it'll prob save you tons of money!

  • *runs for needle and thread* thanks!

  • super helpful! I was having the same problems (thinning hairline and loose hairs.) Thanks for making this!

  • @ashiegirl16 seems like this is a common problem! glad i could help!

  • Vitamin E oil also works.

  • @stella50ish good to know! thanks!

  • This was really helpful Franchesca!

    ~Lauren Ashley

  • OMG...first of all, this product truly has worked for you. Before I loc'd in 2008 my edges were always thinned from countless creamy crack! LoL This is such a great technique and I can't wait to try this out and do a vid as well! Thanks so much for sharing gurlfriend!

    (✿◠‿◠) Kokofemme

  • @kokofemme where you at koko?? it's been ages since you uploaded a vid

  • @jkui29

*smiles* here I am...seriously, I've been here in GA trying to adapt to life but in the process I've neglected my channel a lil bit. No worries though...I'll be back first of the year with tons of updates n stuff! Thanks so much for asking. (◠‿◠)

  • @kokofemme i feel you girl! it's hard to have a life offline AND online :)

  • @kokofemme thanks! i'm really excited about the progress. my edges are thin for the SAME REASON. i always feel bad when i see women with these horrible hairlines because of weaves and perms :( can't wait to see your video!

  • thanks chesca!

  • Great job with using this needle & thread method on your hairline. My hair is really fuzzy at the roots all over, so i'll use this method every once in a while if I need to. If my hairline is really fuzzy then i'll just touch up this area. Your locs look great by the way! ~Dewdrop

  • @DynamicRunner thanks! and thanks again for providing such a great tutorial! it's really made a difference in my locs. trying to tame that baby hair into submission! lol

  • did u start using that oil because ur hairline starting receding or is it just like that? jus wondering...

  • @LuvArlynKisz my hairline became thin way back in high school, year 2000, after a bad dye job reacted poorly with my perm. i dyed my bangs at home and when i got my perm touched up my hair just started falling out. if you watch my happy birthday hair video i talk about it. i was super embarrassed and used headbands to cover it up, which probably made it worse. even after going natural it's just never fully recovered until i started using castor oil.

  • @chescalocs thanks for the response.... sorry you had to go thru that... my mom keeps telling my not to get locs because my hairline will recede... do u think heavy locs can contribute to receding hairlines?

  • @LuvArlynKisz ah it's ok. at the time i was upset, but looking back it wasn't as earth shattering as i believed. lol. does your mom have locs? just curious as to how she would be an authority on such matters...receding hairlines are due to genetics or extreme stress on the hairline as a result of pulling (extensions or very tight ponytails) or chemicals. in my experience, my locs aren't heavy or any heavier than loose hair so i can't see it contributing to a receding hairline

  • @LuvArlynKisz truth is, you can't predict how your hair is going to respond to anything. if you want locs, get them. it's your hair, not your mom's. and if you're afraid of poor results or what might happen, then don't get them. you're the only person that can make the right choice for yourself. best of luck

  • omg you have a magic medicine cabinet! complete with black castor oil and an already threaded needle lol

  • @pimpinwun15 ha! yea, i guess so! i keep that needle in there because i use it so often. lol

  • I love castor oil mixed with a few drops of peppermint oil. works wonders for me.

  • Yay!!! A new video

  • Terrific video as usual, very informative. After viewing your vids, I use to think I was going the interlocking route with the onset of my lock journey, but I think I'll keep my lock technique simple (palm roll/twist). ;)

BTW, do you still color your hair?

  • @ohpuhleeeze no, i haven't colored my hair since 2004.

  • Nice tragus piercing, can't wait to get mine done :P

  • Love it! Thanks for making this vid. My edges are still a little damaged from when I use to get braids. It started growing back and I was able to make new baby locks. But the temple area is still being difficult...makes me look like an old man with a receding hairline. I'm gonna try the castor oil. Merry Christmas!

  • @ThruThePHIRE i wonder why the temples are so difficult? i've heard a few other people complain about this problem (myself included)

  • i dont have black castor oil but i have regular castor oil nd it works for my eyebrow and hairline :) so if u cant find BJCO get the regular one

  • @bustitwydeopen365 oooh, good idea. i kinda want thicker eyebrows. lol

  • Great vid! I've had a ridiculously stressful year and started having some thinning in my crown area. I've been using the Jamaican Black Castor Oil since September and I can see a difference. I haven't loss any locs butI hate how the thinning looks. And with the area that has started to fill I feel like I could totally have another loc there soon. It'll be a baby compared to the other 2 yr old locs i have but it'll still be a loc

  • I'm gonna check this out!!

  • so Franchesca,

what size bottle do you use 4 or 8oz. kind of a stupid question, but i can't tell. thanks.

  • @mefilmmaking 4oz

  • Love your crimps! I'm actually going to tame my hairline today with some shea butter and a little castor oil. Love your vids tho so keep em coming!

  • Do you have the regular castor oil.. no enssential oils? If so, how do you find the smell? is it very strong?

  • @BeautywithinSherry the bottle i have is by tropic isle living. according to the bottle it's 100% natural jamaican black castor oil but it's clear and doesn't really have a smell. i notice some commenters have complained about the smell, but the bottle i have doesn't have a particular smell at all. hope that helps.

  • gud video

  • I'm so happy about your hairline, Good job Chesca!

  • castor oil mixed with almond oil = the tea

    For hairlines/eyebrows/eyelash thickening

  • @hope0hurts i'm weary of putting anything too close to my eyes, but thanks for the tips!

  • black castor oil is amazing i can see real progress in your photos :)

i always heard the major causes of hairline problems were

    a) pulling your hair back too tight

    b) retwisting too often and generally playing with the baby hairs (other than oiling) and c) wearing headbands etc can cause thinning.

just thought i'd put that out there!

  • @dina237 thanks for your input! my hairline is thin after a bad dye job that reacted poorly with my relaxed hair back in high school (2000ish). a lot of my hair fell out as a result and it just never recovered.

  • @chescalocs i don't think your hairline is too bad at all btw, but like i said, i can see how the castor is having a positive effect! i mention those factors purely because that's how my locs got into trouble before... all good now!

  • Yes Yes! Love it... gonna add this product to my OWN Christmas stocking.... today. :) And yes, my front edge baby hairs are just as rebellious. I'm so crazy pumped about that technique. (hey, it's the little things! lol) Just the other day I was considering & trying to see which two locks to combine in the front, so as to create a better, more clean hairline...and without destroying the sections too much. Aww, enough rambling, going to get my needle and thread. This is perfect. :) Thanks!

  • i love the black Castor oil. that is the best trick for getting fuzziness that I've ever seen. the Castor oil is good for hot oil treatments, especially on the scalp for any dandruff issues, when i use that i don't have to moisturize for at least a week. thank you for sharing.

  • Dope!!!

  • I am going to try this for my whole head! My hairline is fine but I love anything healthy that promotes growth. :) Thanks for sharing!

  • Three years and my hairline hasn't locked in places. I have been using Dr. Miracles's hair growth- on my hairline which is comprised mostly of an essential oil mix. I have noticed a slight difference in growth and softness. I have some little" bee dee bee coils-2) and I will use this method to integrate them. Thank you so much for sharing....I'm almost there.

  • Thanks for the vid:). I don't know how much of a difference the different kinds of castor oil has on hair but which one did you buy (lite, dark, or extra dark)?

  • @cocoa8872 mine doesn't say. but it's actually clear. it's not the same brand as the one i listed in the video description box. i couldn't find that same brand online.

  • Glad it worked for you because I'm waiting on my first order to be shipped for this very reason!

  • @kwietgyrl awesome! please let me know how your results are a few months from now!

  • Does it have a strong scent? I have clear castor oil and might start including JBCO soon.

  • @DearNadia the bottle i have doesn't smell, but apparently some people have purchased bottles that have a strong smell

  • You left off one key thing about the JBCO.....the smell. LOL!

  • @lynnieluve mine doesn't smell

  • My friend is Jamaica right now I already told her to bring me back some. JBCO is the business. I need to work on my temples

  • Where do u buy the hair line product at I need it badly
