  • Look at my profile picture.

  • Very ingenious...Nilsson was GREAT!!

  • "How can you laugh when you know I'm down" is from the song "I'm Down" which was first released as the "B" side of the single "Help," the lead vocal is sung by Paul McCartney and is well known from its live performance at the Beatles' famous 1965 Shea Stadium concert in New York. Agreed that this is an excellent tune, decades before people came up with the idea of "Mashups."

  • I think the "oooh la la las' are from " You Won't See Me". "Nowhere Man" is more "aah la la la".

  • @MannMan2001 Great That makes more sense

  • I only heard Day Tripper, Paperback Writer, Baby It's You, Drive My Car, Down, You're Gonna Lose that Girl, Good Day Sunshine,Do You Want to Know a Secret, Hard Day's Night, Yesterday, and Strawberry Fields Forever. I also heard a bunch of music (guitar, brass, drums) that sounded familiar, but I can't put my finger on it. Where were the other ones?

  • "Strawberry Beatles Forever" (2:10)

  • Lennon became a friend of Nilsson specifically because of this song.

  • I like the Lennon-esque 'ohh' at 1.33

  • Why did Harry do this? Did he ever just sing a Beatles song all the way through!?

  • He did the Beatles song 'Mother Nature's Son'..Great version

  • "my love don't buy me presents" is a reference to "She's a Woman." I think the "Sha la la" is from "Baby it's You."

  • Harry told a story that after this was released, John Lennon got his number, called and said "That's GREAT!". The next day, Paul McCartney call and said "It's FANTASTIC!". Then George Harrison called and said "I LOVE it!" Harry said he was pissed because Ringo never called! ;-).

  • I heard "Don't Let Me Down"

  • I am in an acoustic Beatles tribute group and we recently added this rendition to our set. Great mash up!

  • "my babe dont buy me presents" is a reference to "boys"

  • @easytotypein I think it might just be a reference to "She's a woman", or maybe a "she's a woman" and "can't buy me love" hybrid

  • @easytotypein its a ref from "she's a woman" not "boys" and im 100% positive.

  • @easytotypein No, it's a reference to She's a Woman (my love don't give me presents)

  • The original "Love" style mashup !

  • When I saw his audition I KNEW that he would go to the finals on American Idol.

  • WOOOOW!!

  • I'd heard of this track for years...first time to really hear it! FAB...story goes the Beatles heard this and befriended Harry ever after that....very clever. Seems to me Harry was 40 years ahead of George Martin and Circus so Gay.....(spelling!)--they did the LOVE montage stuff like this just recently. Seems Harry was WAY ahead of the swines...... Good for you Harry ;)

  • groovy : ]

  • Is the style an intentional spoof on "I Dig Rock 'n' Roll Music"?

  • they were best friends back then,im sure they did stuff noone will hear.

  • having read about this song i was thinking he had found a way to quote the songs and create succinct narrative, but just randomly singing bits from other songs is very jarring. did they have to get rights for all these songs or only You Can't? since they're half and half Lennon/McCartney i guess it doesn't matter.

  • r.i.p. harry ... this is my fav rendition ... the beatles considered harry to be an honorary member, and harry was infamous for being with john lennon on his lost weekend ... pretty badass

  • If anyone catches a snippet from another Beatle song, please feel free to comment on it! I read on wikipedia that there are 20 other Beatles songs in Nilsson's track, and I only counted 14 (possibly 15)

  • @Datty She's A Woman, I'm Down, Drive My Car, You're Gonna Lose That Girl, Good Day Sunshine, Hard Day's Night, Rain, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Day Tripper, Paperback Writer, Do You Want To Know A Secret, Norwegian Wood, Yesterday, Strawberry Fields.

I think those are all the lyric quotes in the song in order of first appearance, though many are repeated. I believe there are a couple horn parts from other songs as well, though out of context it's diffcult to name them.

  • @Datty I think the horn figure at 1:11 is a polyphonic rendition of the siren-like horns in "Strawberry Fields Forever".

  • @gilgamess The first thing that came to mind was Beep beep'm beep beep yeah from Drive My Car

  • @Datty 22 actually

  • This is oddly appealing..

  • YOUR ODDLY APPEALING
