THE LARGEST AXE IN THE WORLD. If you would like to see the second of its kind made, The largest axe in the world, please go to ebay, and in the search box, type in: 130569369041. It would make a wonderful addition to a collector's arsenal, or a retiring gift for a fireman leaving the force, or a gift for the winner of a lumberjack competition. If you are the type of person that likes to have something different than others, this is for you, it has SERIAL NO. 2, completely hand made, USA
you forgot one step and that is to stay as low as possible and never go into the door to hookit use the tools langht to grab it. and also say hit when u want the axe man to hit the haligin and stop to stop
Yikes....!! Lucky Halligan dude didn't get hit.. Axe man.. take a knee and swing! But over, good work... concept is there! Oh, and the hand on the end of the haligan...watch for that.. every time you hit the door.. the vibration can hurt!
Whoever makes the BFD's videos is the only fireman in the entire world who doesn't use SHIT songs for fire/training videos. Thank you for restoring my faith in the Fire Service!
@mwsilva Shock loading the door gives you an idea of where the resistance is, and also can loosen the locks on some weaker doors. You may have locks at the top or bottom of the door, possibly built into the door itself which may not show themselves on your side (meaning no bolts showing). You may also be in a zero-visibility situation and the feel from shock-loading will tell you where to attack the door.
yeah when you push the haligan to open the door, have your hands on top of the bar and open or you will smash your fingers between the bar and the door which hurts like crazy
I can't say enough about Capt. Morris (FDNY-Rescue 1). He just did a 2 day class here in eastern CT titled "Heavy Vehicle Rescue & Extrication". One of the guys that's forgotten more about the fire service than I will ever know.
Also the guy with the halligan should hold the tool with his outer palm facing up. If he does this he has the protection of the adze. You can work with a smashed finger but a shattered wrist could end your career.
Dude with the axe is going nuts on that haligan bar. was the guy with the bar even telling him to swing. Think safety of yourself before even making entry.
You should have paid attention to Capt Morris. Shoulder to the door and you're lucky the the guy swinging the axe didn't break you're arm. He should be down on one knee. Its easier to strike the halligan that way and theres less of a chance of hitting the guy holding the halligan.
Yeah, it is to limit the air intake to the fire area and also protect the firefighters from venting heat and fire conditions.
If you are operating in an apartment building and the door remains uncontrolled, heavy heat and smoke will vent up the interior stairway trapping occupants and firefighters above as well.
I ditto FD1092's comments: Take a knee and use controlled swings.

Bro the Axe FF needs to strike the head at right angles. You can see the Halligan FF get hit. You will avoid that by striking at right angles.

exactly right, the guy with the halligan almost got his arm smashed. the axeman should have had his ass on a knee.

Is closing the door at the end in case your exposing oxygen to the fire?
