Comparisons are absolutely crap. Mcgrath bowled majorily in Australia (Derr) meaning prodominatly hard decks where u can get lots of bounce and seem movement. Akram played in places where that wasnt the case and was a swing bowler. They r different bowlers Mcgrath was economical which suited an attack filled with attacking bowlers like Warne, Lee, Gillespee, Bichel etc. Even slightly different erras so stop with the hate on either guy. Ask any one who knows anything about the Australian bowling line-up in Glenn's period; he focused on cutting the ball as he thought that was much more "lethal" than swing. mcgrath's batting was a joke early in his career, he at least got his average up a bit by the end of his career because of his commitment to improve all facets of his game, ended up getting a 50 and at least half a dozen other important innings, nearly won a test in india by holding out and scoring for close to an hour making 20 odd.

and 2. McGrath is not a cry baby. McGrath has won more tests for a team than Akram, and McGrath's bowling figures are a whole level better and lower than Akram's, who in reality gives out more runs. Akram also doesn't have superb control over the ball but McGrath does, which his average shows as a fact. Also, McGrath has taken wickets at fast rates and on song has taken more five plus wickets than Akram has.

As far as the Wasim v McGrath debate goes, for mine, Wasim was more skilful, McGrath was more effective. I can't stand McGrath because of his on-field behaviour, but I agree with Rob that his approach to batting was excellent. It's hard to remember a batsman who improved more over the course of a career. Wilfred Rhodes perhaps.

He is among the pioneers of reverse swing (which btw McGrath doesn't excel in). Plus, he has more than 400 wickets in both ODI n Tests (first bowler in history), McGrath doesn't. Akram holds the record for the highest score by a No.8 batsman (257*) in tests. He is a much more complete cricketer. Wasim - Only bowler with 4 hat-tricks.
