  • Hi I live on a small river that eventually spills out into the Tampa bay, what's the best method of catching reds in small canals and rivers?

  • @xxluckycharms123

    Shrimp on a Jighead.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • hey capt. ben, i live in tampa bay right on the water with the skyway in my backyard... in the winter there are a lot of sheepsheads but in summer a lot of reds any tips?

  • @brix1389

Yes I do have some tips. Listen to the Reel Animals radio show. Mike Anderson is a friend of mine as well as a very good fisherman. Thank you very much for watching.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • capt. i just got gotor minnows so far cought 2 bass on them thanks for the tip!!!

  • @SuperJersh

    Awesome

  • whats up guys? My name is Will and i recentally moved to florida and i live on the gulf. i was just wondering about how i can improve my red fish success? i use a lot of jigs and spinner baits. should i switch to live bait?

  • Sometimes it is just tough. I would use a spoon first to cover a lot of area. The you can use Jerk Baits and Berkley Gulp to fish the areas where you find fish.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • Okay thanks. Do they hang around structure like mangroes or docks? and whats your preferred color of gulp?

  • @OpenWaterBoys

Mainly on open grass flats and bars.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • hi, i live in Vero Beach florida and i have a question about using bait fish vs shrimp. For snook and reds is it best to use some type of live bait fish or live shrimp. Thank you very much . Nice Video

  • Usually in the cold shrimp works better.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • So in the summer and not cold weather the fish like bait fish the best.

    Thank you very much.

  • quick question capt.... or i guess questions lol. what kind of setup are you using? it looked about a 7 foot medium action rod, but what kind of main line were using and did u have a mono or fluoro leader? what was the test of the line?. great job on those reds man!

  • I believe I was using an 8-17 Cape Fear 7ft rod with Fin Nor Megalite. I used 20lb fluro leader. Thanks for watching.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • capt i got a quick question fish belly is it fast or slow working and how would you rig it weedless or what?

  • Great vids, keep up those videos subscribe

  • on my dock i caught a 2ft2 red 10 puonds

  • Capt nice reds today we need to go fishing one day ! !

  • I'm guessing that there was a sandy bottom with some grass?

  • hey quick question:if i use a zoom jerkbait will it have just as good action or better action then a DOA and thankz for the help on witch baits to use

  • lol.......what are they useing ?????/

  • hey quick question: how are fish belly cheaper when its like 10 to get what 5 minnows and then more then 6 dollard for flutter hooks and you can go out and but the whole DOA shrimp for 9 dollars but you get 3 shrimp and the hook and weights.

  • Really is that how much they cost? I would got with Zoom jerk baits instead. The DOA's are good as well. I just don't have the patience to fish them as slow as you are supposed to.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • hey quick question: witch is cheaper getting fishbelly lures or buying DOA shrimp.

  • fishbelly

  • i caught like a fifteen pound redfish!

  • Whoa

  • Where did you catch that fish?

  • hey captchancy. can you answer a question.

what do you do if a redfish or a threadfin swins directly towards you, cause a red tried to do that to me once. i reeled in as fast as possible but he surfaced and turned around and ran, then the line broke.

    what should i have done??

  • Just loosen your drag a little and the line should not break. You hooked him up so that was great.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • thanks a lot.

you don't know how many people i've asked that question lol.

Your answer was the same as the one my dad gave me. lol

    thanks again

  • What water temperature are you fishing in? Do they bite in cold winter water?

  • It was probably 67 or 68 that day. They will but sometimes it is a little tough.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • I'm down in Marco Island and would love to fish with you someday!

  • hey quick question: I live in fort myers and fish a lot of flatsin estero bay .... in the winters my reds and snook move off the flats... do they go deeper into the back country or focus more on deeper cuts throughout the bays?

  • Try both depending on the water temps. When it is cold they will usually be deep and lazy.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben
