  • F'n Legend !!

  • Legend !

  • @VirtuosoBidD, The ABB wont be at the beacon anymore :(

  • Liz Reed IS still the best song ever written.

All artists/musicians eventually come to a "sunset" in their creative lifespans. I don't think Mr. Betts is there yet. Although I see him every time he's in town (NYC), I do hope he puts aside the static of the past, and shares the stage with the boys at the Beacon this year.

After all, neither one of us is getting any younger.

  • Dickey you Rock and always will!

  • Dickey Please Re-Join The Allman Brothers for one last tour!

  • Hey Dickie - stuff the golf club - pick up that damn gee-tar again mate !

  • he is wearing a Moe. shirt!!

  • An intriguing character, along with his accomplishments in the Allman Brothers band, Dicke Betts is a remarkable character.

  • To continue on the last statement, as far as his musical ability, that's not a question, but in terms of his personal demons, professionalism, and coothe. It's sorely lacking. No doubt he is an accomplished musician. Just because he's a music icon, doesn't make him a role model. He's not a role model. Few people are.

  • @DandyWolfFloyd but he not being a role model, does not mean we shouldn't care for him as a person...I don't even know the guy, but through his music he has spoken to me so i can say that i care for him...I think it is kind of sad what happened to him in the last few years, and he saying that he feels empty, and he looks kinda drugged up in this video.... about his professionalism, he was always a classy act when he wasn't on jail haha, but everyone has his little flaws

  • @ NoRoseForMe - Yes I'm serious. The peach colored ascot wearer was Dickey. I heard this straight from Brian's Bittner who is an accomplished musician and general nice guy in our area. @runninonempiy - You can call it BS all you'd like. Also, your an audience member from what I read, and I'd guess he ought to be nice to you guys. Listen I have no vested intrest in Mr. Betts, or any of the music he wrote, but Brian Bittner a water treatment foreman for Lehigh Natural Resources knows better.

  • Sounds good, Dickey. Especially the "avoiding contrived songwriting".

  • @runninoncum Listen you maggot-dick cumdrunk bastard, when did I ever say I lived in Sarasota? Quit trying to make me your queer lover along with Bonnaducci you inbred shiteater. I was inferring that he was on meth. Meth users steal copper. (telephone lines) Learn how to read between them before you go bashing folks but in the meantime, I hope you choke on Brutus'es dick....or drown in a pissfilled bliss from the urine of a thousand midgets. Fuck off and die.

  • YOU DIPSHITS ARE TALKIN ABOUT DICKIE LIKE HE"S A HAS BEEN!!!He's still performing and gettin' it..You really are bitchin because he is doing drugs??What do you think he has done for almost 50 years?..Drugs I'm not advocating it..But why act like an ass hole about it..hes been like this for years..EVERY ONE OF YOU KNOW The song FREE BIRD!!And this bird you cannot change!!!..A LOT of musicians that have lived this long are the same way.And they can perform. They MADE the music,They can perform it!

  • Staring eyes, jaw constantly moving, "blurry" talking..... What is he on? Fuck, how I wish this truly great musician could get his act together once and for all!! i can totally understand why the ABB fired him, even though it hurts.

  • @IHIKML he's drunk, like always lol but seriously

  • @stonedeafforever88 He may be drunk as well, but he's on something at the same time. Sad!

  • Honest interview, no makeup, no edits on the answers given. None of us worth listening to in or out of music or show business have not stumbled to make a verbal reprise of our lives that didn't have a hiccup here or there. Give Mr. Betts full credit for allowing this interview to be posted. He even pulled off a good joke about putting porn on his website. God bless him, he's worked his tail off and it shows. Respect the man.

  • Stupid me, thought you were of the drugs. At age 67 you're not!!! Get a grip, man!!!

  • Dickie Betts is a fuckin cool dude.

  • Sir I would love to read and much more to listen to anything you have to write. Reading the music you write is like reading a swan song everytime. You are gifted and fine wine is so much more fine in a song written by someone like you. A great thinker and composer. I get so fn bored myself. Love when you write how you speak! No i can tell your heart spills out onto the pages! You are Southern Rocks Mozart!

  • I'll tell you something about Mr. Betts. Ol' Dick had to take up the services of a drummer named Brian Bittner for a Nazareth, PA show, his regular drummer couldn't make. Brian busted out a great performance, and after the show Brian put his hand on his shoulder thanking him for the opportunity to play w/ him. How did this peach ascot wearing jerk-off thank him? He said, "Don't fucking touch me! Just because you played with a rock star, doesn't mean you can hang out with one!" Fuck you!

  • @DandyWolfFloyd Are you serious? Dickie told the guy that? Who's the peach ascot wearer?! Hehe! Oh geez....Id like to know more about this. Where'd ya hear about it? Tell me more. Thanks 'Jenny' (tired,,,havent even left for work yet,,,scuse me if I sound like a dumb-ass)

  • @DandyWolfFloyd I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS ONE BIT!!!!...I have to call it Bull shit or WWAAAYYY out of context..How would he do that when he hung around with the audience all day with us at the Dan Toler benefit that he performed at..And was a fun guy!

  • Nice shirt dicky! When/why was this interview done.

  • God bless you Dickey, you will ALWAYS rock!

  • Does anyone have a clue how he came up with those melodies? Is it just like a beaver making a dam - ie, you've either got it or you don't?

  • Dickey's resume speaks for itself ... you are loved. Peace.

  • Check out the video of Duane's debut performance of "Oklahoma" - (an original song) at The Malibu Inn - Oct. 8th, 2011 - I just posted it.

  • Dickey Betts kept me sane when I was 19, my dad left, I was very down. I saw the Allman brothers a few times, once with Duane, even got his broken "E" string from the show! Later saw 'em at R.F.K. Stadium, in Jersey, heard Jessica, before the album release, and that was it for me! I memorized the melody right then, hummed it on the bus home, nonstop, lol til I got home, back on Long Island! I've blended Bett's, Larry Carlton's, and Robben Fords styles, getting compliments galore from everyone!

  • THIS GUY IS 68 YEARS OLD NOW AND i'LL BET HE STILL CAN WHIP SOME ASS.

  • wtf this is modern day dickey??????

  • Comment removed

  • Edgar Winter wrote it.... not Paul. Just can't see Paul whippin' out Frankenstein on his 'Wings' album! LOL!

  • I agree with Timmo, this is really sad to watch. Dickey if you read this please remember you have it in you to bring it back.

  • Wow, I thought I saw Dickey Betts stealing the telephone lines to the vacant house across the street! Ouch. I knew that he was bad off and in a steady decline (again) when I saw him at Music Midtown in Atlanta...one of his last shows with the Bros...but this is too scary. He looks and acts just like my dad and many other cracked/cranked out people in my family. He also displays signs of a stroke but thats prolly just drunk/meth. No point in quitting now, his brain is gone. LIVE IT UP DICK!!!!!!

  • @Mattswad Drunk and on speed is EXACTLY right. His jaw cranks just like he's on meth or crank. Seen it too many times. Been there myself with coke in my early days The unblinking eyes/frozen expression while thinking... not good, man. Not good at all. :( LOVE Dickie's playing though...none better! One of my favorites. I'm doing a project studio remake of "Jessica" right now and decided to find an interview of what he's up to. Wish I hadn't now. Bummer, man.... just a bummer.

  • @bluestudio67 My god, 5:48 - 6:09

  • @superfuzzymomma My brother is 52 now, he always comes in on holidays with jaw cranking and "that jacked-up stare," trouble talking straight. He's a crack addict. Has been sice 1990. Lost all his money and a great career. Trying to get his shit together in rehab right now. Wish Dickie good luck. This rips me apart, seeing this. The result of a long history of drug abuse, which is no stranger to Dickie. There will not be anymore "Jessica"'s coming from this cat's guitar, I'm afraid.

  • @bluestudio67 yea, been there, seen that. This also tears me up big time, I cut my musical teeth on Dickey and the Brothers. Anyway, My prayers go out to your bro and your family. Gotta be the worst thing in the world watching a loved one struggle down that road and knowing there ain't anything anyone can do until the person in question is ready. Peace!!! Glenn

  • @Mattswad SO you live in Sarasota?..he lives just south of me..In that area the cheapest house is 3.5 million..And his is worth a hell of a lot more..So if you THINK that was him your wrong..his house is on the gulf of Mexico and there is NO across the street..you are WAY OFF!!..Sucks that your dads a loser...Dickey isn't..Oh and he has been performing GREAT shows since this video.......EAT SHIT DICKWAD!!!!

  • This is painful to watch...

  • Alright interview. Dickey looked a little out of it. I really hope he gets better and the Brothers and him bury the hatchet and they tear up the scene again. It can still happen.

  • Man Dickie I hope you are OK. You still one of my Hero's

  • like to shake this guys hand and say 'THANKS BROTHER!"

  • "I wanna get some porn on there"

  • Dickey will always be a Allman Brother for ever amen. I don't care if they don't speak or hang out anymore. I think Dickey should be back playin' with the Brothers. It's where he belongs. He seems lost at times because I know he thinks about the ABB. How could he not? He was with them for over 31 years come on man!!! That was the biggest part of his life. The now ABB minus Dickey still plays Elizabeth Reed at their gigs. I hope they all mend their crap and be friends and play again!!!

  • Dickey Betts in the original ABB lineup was a huge piece of that band. Listen to all their expansive juants like whipping post, mountain jam etc. Dickey orchestrated the direction of the jams. He was responsible for keeping the jam going and Duane was the icing on the cake. They both created a genius web of guitars playing under and over each other and they meshed like no other duo in rock or any other genre. During whipping post, Dickey played Frere Jacques.......listen to it people.....

  • Dickey Betts is one of the finest electric guitar blues player, ever. No one on a Gibson guitar can touch him or will ever play with the feeling he puts forth, nor come close to the full melodic bluesy sound that he produces. He was in his element with the Allman Brothers Band and will hopefully play with them again someday. We are fortunate to have had this man playing for us over the past years and I hope he continues to make music.

  • sad that one of guitar hero is in this shape. very sad to see. still love him. dickey betts forever peaches

  • self depricating superstar...gotta love it

  • Enjoy your time off Dickie as you gave the guitar world a voice like no other. Play when you feel it, a true artist. The version of Blue Sky in 1991 in Germany is my favorite and Dickeys playing and tone is from another place few gutarists can go to.

  • It's sad to see him like this

  • I have never heard him talk much. He does seem off to me. Maybe it is because I have not heard many of his interviews.

  • AWESOME

  • i did a report on him in high school one of my fav guitar players

  • I'm sorry to say, but it seems, at least to me, as if he hasn't quit his drink/ drug problem yet. His jaw moves constantly, and he sounds like any drug addict do. Maybe it's all the hard years that shows, but.... It's sad anyway:-/ Hope he gets well. He's one of the best! He's a "hidden" American treasure!

  • This is sad. Years of boozin' and drugs takes it's toll. It's always sad to see a rock legend just waste away. I wonder how he's doing money wise.

  • F*ck Butch. He's so inconsequential.

  • dickey got the jaw moving. he is high as hell.

  • page four porn man

  • he is old. he could be losing it upstairs a bit. its not easy to play as good when he young.

  • Man, what happened to Dickie? He just seems completely burned out. Maybe he's just not a very articulate guy?

  • Dicky doesn't know computers very well but it's obvious he understands their principle function: porn.

  • Ouch.

  • That's why its called fishing, not catching, lol. But he is my top Southern Rock guitarist. Used to see him and Greg and their gang in the bars in Sarasota and Bradenton back in the 80s.

  • What happened?!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you for posting this interview. I think we have all guitarst learned alot from him over the years being able to watch him now on youtube now is really educational. would really enjoy setting down and visiting with him and talk about fishing guitars and kids.

  • My favorite guitarist for about 40 years had a little too much to drink before this interview. I honestly think he is the one who made the Allman Brothers band so popular. Please put down the bottle or whatever and pick up that guitar. You are the man and you know it so give some more. We need it and you need it.

  • @rmoore0926 He seems fine to me just a little relaxed and mellow...It sounds like he needs to get back on the road for sure. He will remain my favorite living guitar hero. I have many fond memories of Dickey Betts with the Allman Brothers Band and without.

  • Dickey ought to listen to Steve Morse for a change. There's a rocker who excels at instrumentals! LOL Thanks for the great tunes, Dickey!

  • @fiveinslide6 I agree with you man, Steve Morse is great. How about Dickey does an album with Steve Morse? Thats a dream of mine....

  • @fiveinslide6 Morse is great but Dickey is a living legend in every respect...if Steve Morse could only have had the luck and success to look back on.

  • All that Dickey knows is music.. its like taking brett favre away from football and telling him to live a normal life.. theres always time off, but when theres nothing to come back to it must feel pretty different..

  • Poor ol' Dickie

  • Dickie was one half of the most mind-blowing double lead guitar duo any band ever had or ever will have. The original ABB lineup was the deal folks! After Duane died, Dickie stepped up & kept that band simmering w/some of the most moving & courageous solo guitar playing ever done. He literally kept that band alive creatively & musically. Losing Berry after losing Duane was just 2 much. Dickie doesn't have to apologize for anything. Be healthy, happy, & peace (& peach) be w/you Dickie - Rock-on!

  • @skywoof7 NO SHIT! They invented what you could do with 2 guitars! No one before, since or EVER will do it like Duane and Dickey! They are the absolute top of the top of the tops when it comes to REAL MUSIC! In Memore of Elizabeth Reed is just absolutely a masterpiece and the live version at the Fillmore east is absolutely as good as it gets.

  • One person doesn't like ice cream.

  • This is like the Hasselhoff burger video. This may be sadder though.

  • @roomserviceband How is this even comparable to being incoherent, half-naked, and lying on the floor eating a hamburger?

  • I saw Dickey at Penns Peak on 2/18/2011 and he was OUTSTANDING!! He played great with a great band. He is a special artist and I hope he continues forever.

  • Damn, I have to stop watchin this - train wreck

  • Is there anymore of this interview? It seems like it just cuts off.

  • It's a little strange in the beginning when he's trying to be funny about fishing and golf, but he's pretty thoughtful once he starts talking about his creative process and being in the Allman Brothers.

  • He may never play with the Allman Brothers Band again, but it sure would be nice if Dickey, Gregg & Butch could at least make peace before it's too late. They were all brothers at one time, after all.

  • @MrBlindBlake I don't really know what happened between them. Much as I love the Brothers, there surely is a gaping hole without Dickey. What an artist. Write, Dickey write!

  • A lot of people have bad things to say about Dickey, but man the life he led one hell of a life as a founding member of the ALLMAN brothers band. think of the things he had to deal with after the death of his best friend and mentor. Drugs and drink may have taken a toll on him ... but I recall the days in the early 70's when HE was the heart and soul of the Best band EVER!!!

  • Thanks for posting. Good ol' Dickey is 67 years old now so most of his joking may not be as obvious as before, but it's good to see that he still likes to kid around. One of the most humble and down to earth rock legend there ever was...

  • Seems like he's really unpretentious and putting real thought into his answers in this interview.

  • not his best, seems to me
