No, it was written to be set 30-40 years in the future back in the 60's so now! We're not that far off, gangs dressed up in weird outfits, doing terrible things like initiation killings basically for fun, all these different prison rehabilitation programs, I don't think we're to far off. Great book and deff worth buying if you can't find it at the library

Actually in the book, Dim is an ape of a guy and breaks the woman's ankles and arms as she struggles to get out of his grip, and as for the writer, you try getting kicked in the jaw with a steel tow boot and then have someone that weighs 200 plus sit on you. The bit about her breaking bones was censored out because the scene was already considered to graphic for audiences in the 70's. And I hope you develop a true taste and understanding for film art and watch other Kubrick movies.

Don't blame Kubrick, it's not his fault that the original American release he read didn't include the final chapter because Burgess just wanted money! Years later after he had learned of and read the final chapter he said he wished he had included it in an interview. This book and movie is absolutely brilliant. Burgess did so much amazing work with his own slang and damn near created a language by the end of the book. I am sad that Kubrick left out the last chapter from the movie. The last chapter, and ending in general impacted the entire book, as a whole, amazingly, and made it that much better. I absolutely love it.

the reason Kubrick left out the last chapter is his movie was based on the original American release and the publishers back then excluded the last chapter. Kubrick didn't know it existed. Years after the films release (don't ask me where cause I'll never find it again) Kubrick commented about reading the last chapter and mentioned how he wished he had done it in an interview.

The message was that in the attempt to 'cure' Alex through torturous methods, they were simply trying to make him run like clockwork. Hence the name. Therefore, it is trying to say that people CAN'T become cured through inhuman techniques, they need to discover goodness on their own. The movie does a good job and portraying the cruelness of rape and violence.
