i heard julie miller perform this song live. i have not ever attached a christian meaning to it.....the message of the song can be applied to any human being. i find the song very moving and relevant to my own personal life...and i'm an atheist. i used the song at my wedding.
you don't hear deep lyrics like this in todays popular music
@marsmannix -same goes for me. I first heard the CryCryCry version, which is great, but this is even more intimate and lovely. I didn't realize it was intended to be a Christian message until I saw this video, but as you say, the message is moving and not tied to a particular worldview. I'm also an atheist, and I'd play this at my wedding too.
@glorialeeyoung8 Her most recent recordings are singing with Patty Griffin on her "Downtown Church" album, which was, I believe, produced by Buddy Miller.
Exactly why do you think that this song is about Jesus and not about plain old, here and now, of this earth human love? Perhaps it is about finding a mate or adopting an orphaned child.
@K1P2 Because there is more to this life than the plain old here and now, is why this song has a spiritual meaning. Jesus is the only one who can truly bear our burdens, forgive our sins, and give us life eternal. God, the creator of human love, is the only one who loves with a perfect love. He has told us in His Word to love one another, so he does smile on human love.
Also, Julie Miller is a woman of faith in God and many of her songs reflect her faith.
You're welcome Penny. Stand firm in the saving love of Jesus Christ. "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." The words of Jesus found in John 16:33.
The best thing is that Karen Peris from the innocence mission sings on it too. Two amazing women.

Does Julie Miller still sing these heartfelt songs? Do you have any newer
views of her performances the past few years?

Also, the song is about a promise that is given to ALL Of us, something that can't be promised by anyone but God.
Whatever our path, whatever our sorrows, we can hold onto a promise of not just a better life, but a perfect and joyful life.
Thanks, beanscot for posting this up, I love this song!
