I believe this song is by far and away their greatest piece of work. It encapsulates the 80's new wave sound, and yet at the same time, it is timeless. They were so much more than "I Ran".
This was exactly the kind of music like Depeche Mode, etc. that was beyond uncool to like. It was the kind of music you hear through the walls from your sisters bedroom and feel vaguely threatened by, since it wasn't the Ramones or Black Flag. Yet I knew even then this was a decent tune. Hannah Montana doesn't really do that to me these days. Poor kids.
I've had just a small part of the tune of this song in my head for days, so i've had it rolling around in there coming up with the odd word per day, eventually came up enough of a sentence for me to type in google to come up with the band and song name, i love this song even after several days of torture trying to remember. thanks for posting..great 80s synth music..another song bringing back memories
I'm here only because after hearing 'I ran' on the radio, I became intrested in their music. They're a great band and don't need anyone to make them more liked.
A Flock of Seagulls took electronic music in a direction it had never gone before. Like true artists they crafted songs to be unique expressions of their collective imagination. Compositions like this have an under-appreciated depth when contrasted to the rest of their genre. In 1990 I was lucky enough to see them (actually Mike Score with a backup band) in a really small venue (now defunct Cotati Caberet). He still had that famous hairdo and I felt starstruck watching him a mere 15 feet away.
Very beautiful melody but production could have been better. Besides the song should be shorter about half a minute - the ending of the song is simply too long.
There are some Chinese melodies in this song. Anybody notice them?
In fact, this song makes me reminisce over my past girlfriend from Monterrey Park. Too bad she moved back to HK else we probably would have been married.
The kind-a were the laughing stock back in the day, and in the nineties, but listening back., It's safely to say 'Flock' produced some pretty pretty pretty awesome tunes.
if only i was born 20 years earlier from my birth date, i bet my life would be 100x better then now... we're in the 10's of the 21st century and i feel depressed, the woman looked better back then, the muscle cars, the MUSIC!!! all of it was great, even the fucking economy was WAY better then our shitty economy now. i swear if a fucking time machine isn't invented in the upcoming years... i going 2 kill myself because i can't take it any more in this fucking decade!!! BRING BACK THE 80's!!!
"Wishing" should've gone much higher on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart than #26 here in America. You'd think w/all the MTV exposure & AOR airplay the song got back in the day that it would do better. But sadly it didn't. Damn you Casey Kasem & Billboard for not promoting this song more.

Wow took me right back to the 80's in a flash, just like it was yesterday, I REALLY DO MISS THE 80'S!!!!!!!!!!!! one of the anthems of the 80's for sure ..big up FLOCK OF SEAGULS..
