I just uploaded a video I recorded of music from the Nutcracker played on piano by 20th century modern classical music composer, Professor Walter S. Hartley. It was his last selection at his final piano recital before he retired from teaching at SUNY Fredonia, March 1, 2000, Adams Art Gallery, Dunkirk, NY.
Very good... and one of my favorite pianists... But after hearing the Nyiregyhazi piano roll recording first... I must admit I preferred the piano roll recording. One plus about this recording... I can hear a lot more of the inner voices in this performance and much more dynamic contrast, which I did enjoy more than they Nyiregyhazi performance (but that was only a piano roll) Can't imagine how many strings he would have broke if it were a live recording.
Impressive. The only problem with this transcription is it sounds like the piece had been composed by Liszt more than anything else. It is needlessly complicated, and destroys the beautiful simplicity of Tchaikovsky.
he taught in my college for a year, gave recitals playing Stravinsky Petrouchka, Rachmaninov complete etudes tableaux, liszt complete transcendental etudes etc...We all felt like we were witnessing some kind of super-natural phenomenon, human beings are not supposed to be able to play like that!!
@oreonyamnyam You're right, not the feeling like in the original song, not even the feeling like in the simplified song you learn the first year of piano lessons.
Truly transcends the boundary of Jazz piano and classical piano. Stunning!

Learning this at the moment. It's quite hard - but I love this piece and this transcription is great. :)
Great performance of it too.
